Israel’s Unique Methods Against the Iranian Threat

By Benjamin Weil / July 24th, 2020

For the better part of the 21st century Israel has been trying to circumvent Iran’s regional ambitions in the Middle East to become a nuclear state and spread its military power to neighboring countries. By exploiting the disarray in Syria, Iran routinely sends convoys through Syria to arm its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, with precision guided munitions (PGMs) and other equipment. Israel has reacted by launching a political and military campaign. Usually it was the political effort that was very public while the intelligence and military activities occurred behind the scenes, but in the past week or so we have seen a number of mysterious explosions in Iran. It is hard not to see the Israeli (and American) fingerprint all over these incidents.

Israel’s intelligence is known to execute audacious missions around the world using creative methods. Look no further than breaking into and smuggling out the secret Iranian nuclear archives in 2019. The brilliance in Israel’s alleged reactions lay in how they have managed to face Iran on a number of fronts; in Iran, in Syria and in Lebanon. Each one of them is a unique peril in and of itself, but together comprise the big Iranian threat. Instead of applying a blanket rule for combating Iran, the Israelis broke down their military campaign into smaller components and use their flexibility and creativity to address each one in a unique form.

Israel’s target in Syria is not a Syrian sovereign one, rather it is an independent Iranian actor functioning in Syria. Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes to avoid the shipment of Iranian strategic weapons from entering Lebanon. Many times, the Israeli air force must hit a moving target while avoiding any collateral damage of hitting Syrian state assets.

In Iran though, Israel’s tactics are different. When facing the nuclear program in Iran, Israel is facing a sovereign country. In Iran, it is Iranian assets that are on the Israeli radar. At first it was Iranian scientists who were disappearing mysteriously. Nowadays Israel has shifted to exploding non-human assets - nuclear-related sites. In this case, Israel is not exercising any military option or airstrike, it is the clandestine work of the Mossad planting explosives in various locations.

Kick the UN Out of Israel for Inventing ‘State of Palestine,’ Says Top Legal Expert
An international law expert says Israel should kick the UN out of the Jewish state if the ICC recognizes the non-existent state of ‘Palestine.’
By Yakir Benzion, United With Israe, 7/23/20
Israel should take severe retaliatory action against the United Nations if the chief prosecutor at International Criminal Court in The Hague decides to prosecute Israel for alleged war crimes against the non-existent “state of Palestine,” a top legal expert said Wednesday.
Maurice Hirsch is an international law expert who spent two decades in the IDF’s Military Advocate General’s Corps, much of it prosecuting terrorists, before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In comments published on the Mosaic website, Hirsch says Fatou Bensouda, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), made serious legal errors when she ruled that the Palestinians are the equivalent of an “extant state,” even though they are only an observer at the UN.
Bensouda made the so-called ruling after the Palestinians turned to the ICC demanding the court try Israel for allegedly committing crimes against humanity in what Bensouda called the “State of Palestine.”
“In order to invent a state that does not exist, and has never existed, Bensouda needed to complete a complex puzzle,” Hirsch said.
“On the one hand, she had to negate or ignore critical documents that designated for Israel all the areas she now claims to be part of the ‘state of Palestine.’ These documents include the Balfour Declaration, the decisions made by the allied forces in San Remo following World War I, and the League of Nations mandate for Palestine. All these documents reaffirmed the historic connection of the Jewish people to the area from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea and granted that area to the Jewish people for its future state.”
Hirsch said that on the other hand Bensouda had to ignore the Arab rejection of the 1947 UN Partition Plan and “turn the 1948-9 armistice lines – which the Arab leaders demanded never be seen as borders – into borders.”
Hirsch, who is the director of Legal Strategies at Palestinian Media Watch, added that Bensouda also had to negate the provisions in the Oslo Accords, signed by the Palestinians, that explicitly state the Palestinian Authority does not have state status.
“These acrobatics were possible because the proceedings against Israel are not founded in either fact or law, but are entirely politically motivated,” Hirsch said.
Hirsch says the Netanyahu government should discourage the ICC from making such a decision by holding the UN responsible, because the ICC is a UN sponsored body.
“Israel should carry out a political preemptive strike by informing the United Nations that should the ICC decide to invent “Palestine,” all UN staff in Israel will be declared personae non gratae,” Hirsch said, adding the UN compound in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood would be vacated.
He emphasized that the UN special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, should be included in those ejected after Mladenov recently called for “Palestinian unity” – the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas terror group – against Israel.

Scholar: Palestinians have up to 15 children, moms ‘willing to sacrifice two or three’
Mahmoud Al-Shajrawi: Muslims have a Divine mandate to inflict “humiliation and misery” on the Jews, even if that means losing children to fight Israel.
(July 23, 2020 / MEMRI) Palestinian scholar Mahmoud al-Shajrawi said during a recent interview with Turkey’s Channel 9 TV that the Jews will never give the Palestinians land on which they can establish a Palestinian state because they are “tight-fisted,” as detailed in the Koran.
Al-Shajrawi, a member of the Palestine Scholars Association in the Diaspora, said in the July 14 interview that “the proponents of the Oslo Accords have by now realized that these accords will not be implemented, and that the independent Palestinian state they have been dreaming about for 28 years, the Jews will never give them anything of the sort.”
He went on to say that “Allah has made the Jews tight-fisted. They do not give anyone anything, so how could we expect them to give the Palestinians a state?”
Only those unfamiliar with the “nature of the Jews in the Koran” could believe the Jews would be “realistic” and grant the Palestinians “part of Palestine.”
The only way to get something from the Jews, he said, was to take it by force. This, he explained, was why the Koran says, “They were covered with humiliation and misery.”
“This is the way,” said al-Shajrawi. “We should afflict them with humiliation and misery.”
While some believe the Palestinians are “tired” and no longer have the will to do so, he said, Palestinian mothers have “five, six, 10 and even 15 children,” and are willing to “sacrifice one, two or three as martyrs.”
This, he said, would be considered zakat (mandatory charity) paid by the family the sake of “teaching the Zionist enemy a lesson.”

The ties no longer bind.
By Salena Zito

“In our lack of coping, we have dismissed all of the ties that bind us. The very thing that helped us unite in 1918 wasn’t fighting the Spanish flu. It was that our men were coming home from a brutal and bloody war in Europe as Armistice Day was celebrated in the streets here and across the country on Nov. 11, 1918.
The flag has become, for many, a symbol of something you burn or take a knee for, not rally around.
All we do to each other is lecture, divide, judge, and snark, rinse and repeat. We can’t escape it. It’s everywhere, whether it is a Facebook post, a Nextdoor screed, or a trip to your favorite store to find a sign blasting a political point of view as you enter the door — or don’t enter.”
