Marching into Georgia, with the Senate in Sight By Victor Davis Hanson

Rarely has the fate of the nation hinged on the outcome of two Senate races — from the same state.

The distortions in the campaign and voting that we saw on November 3 will likely be child’s play compared with what will march through Georgia next January.

If recounts don’t change the November 3, 2020, result, the January 5, 2021, Georgia senatorial election becomes a black-swan event like none other in our age.

Incumbent senators rarely have runoff elections. Even if they do, states almost never have two senators up for reelection at once — and never both in runoffs. While control of the Senate has sometimes hinged on the outcome of one senatorial race, rarely has the fate of the nation hinged on two — from the same state.

In January, we will discover whether the Republicans hold the Senate, or whether Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris announce that it is past time to junk many of the very rules by which America makes its rules.

Such melodramatic language is justified. Unlike normal changes of senatorial control, this time around the Democrats have boasted that with a Democratic Joe Biden, a Democrat-controlled House and Senate, Americans will see changes not just in policy per se but in the very manner of how we are governed. Or as now revolutionary Chuck Schumer in melodramatic fashion boasts from the metaphorical barricades: “Now we take Georgia, then we change the world.”

If Democrats pick up both seats, first anticipate the end of the Senate filibuster. With its disappearance after 180 years will go the last check on hard-Left power. Then expect a 15-person Supreme Court. With the end of that 151-year tradition will come the birth of a new “living” and fluid Constitution.

Watch for novel efforts, by hook or crook, to navigate around the amendment process of the U.S. Constitution to end the 233-year-old Electoral College. With all the reins of power, perhaps the Left will figure out a way, on Obama’s prior prompting, to admit two new states (and thus four more reliably Democratic senators).

Don’t count out efforts to see congressional legislation to override state legislatures’ voting laws and enforce on the states lunatic new protocols of the sort we saw this November. The effort will be to “broaden” the electorate, discourage “voter suppression,” and enhance “equity and inclusion” — everything from enfranchising 17-year-old voters, ex-felons, and legal non-citizen residents to mandated early and mail-in voting and rules against requiring an ID to vote.

Georgia’s outcome will determine whether federal legislation will likely smother gun rights akin to Europe’s restrictions, strangle the First Amendment to prevent “hate speech,” and re-create an open border and with it hundreds of thousands of new illegal aliens — future progressive constituents all in need of amnesties. Knocking down the wall seems absurd, but such nihilism may offer powerful iconic and psychological relief to the unhinged Trump-hating Left and their Never Trump allies.

One could go on with such political Armageddon scenarios. But suffice it to say, fairly or not, Georgia will not have seen anything like the upheaval since Civil War hero William Tecumseh Sherman marched from Atlanta to Savannah.

 

After the ongoing contested presidential election, the Georgia-election contours of the known unknowns of the race are pretty clear. That map with a sea of red-county rural expanse pitted against the deep-blue urban cores on Election Day will reappear inside Georgia.

The greater Atlanta metropolitan area and its environs of over 6 million make up a little more than half the Georgia population. The sprawl is supposedly becoming a blue continent inside a red state. So in a fairly evenly matched race, will the Trump base rise up and come out to vote in numbers sufficient to offset urban minorities and suburban professionals?

How many, if any, appearances will Trump make to refashion his campaign rallies on behalf of incumbents David Perdue (if he does not win outright a projected Georgia recount) and Kelly Loeffler? And will some embittered conservative primary voters split on the two?

 

Will Trump’s perceived utility in Georgia depend on his own fate and status in the current contested election — or intimations that he may run in 2024, that in Jacksonian fashion that he was cheated in a “crooked bargain” by the very miasmic forces he was elected to drain?

Will the “deplorable” vote in two months hinge on perceptions of how well the Republican Party got fired up over charges of fraud inherent in November mail-in voting and computer-glitched distortions that seemed always to go one way? Like it or not, a mob of 2024 Republican wannabe presidential candidates will pour into Georgia, and they will likely, willingly or not, reflect MAGA agendas to the core.

We more easily can anticipate the Democratic strategy, based on the party’s tactics in the 2018 and 2020 elections.

Remember how the stealthy Left won back the House in 2018 on the deception that veterans, conservative women, and moderate business people were running as Democrats to reclaim their party from the socialists?

So too radicals Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will campaign as third-way Bill Clinton circa 1992 — on the correct assumption that the hard Left tolerates these deceptions for the greater good of getting power over the supposedly blinkered nation.

For a few weeks during the campaign, both Warnock and Ossoff will shed their former fringe-liberal positions on abortion, guns, support for fringe leftists, open borders, the new Green Deal, radical identity politics, and Israel. Then, like shedding a constraining exoskeleton, all that moderate sheath will be replaced by a renewed robust liberal coating after the election.

Just as the pollsters disgraced their profession to massage the vote in November 2020, so too will they at some point show a blue surge and all sorts of bizarre and contorted reasons why particular demographics have switched, flipped, evolved, and changed to supposedly make Georgia a blue state? If a disreputable Washington Post and ABC could claim that Trump was toast in being down in Wisconsin by 17 points five days before the election, why won’t they broadcast late-December polls showing Perdue and Loeffler as down by 10 and sure losers in Georgia?

Georgia’s ability to run an early-voting/mail-in second election in little more than two months will hinge on what the looming manual recount tells us about the accuracy of its unproven new computer balloting and its misadventure in early voting and mail-in voting.

The media, we know, will muzzle some news, and blare out other news. But it may have less effect on a state electorate that has access to local TV channels not entirely on board with the monolithic narratives crafted by the national networks, the cable stations, and public television and radio. More “fact-checkers” will appear to sort out “disinformation” by contextualizing crazy left-wing narratives and trashing conservative “conspiracy” blogs.

We know the Hollywood celebrity script. By late December, “they” — second tier, has-been stars eager for a virtue-signaling career-boost — will began appearing in “We Are the World”–like commercials, convinced of their limitless power to seduce Georgians into becoming as enlightened as those in Malibu — so they will “do the right thing” and thus vote accordingly.

Silicon Valley will issue warnings about “misleading,” “deceptive,” and “unsubstantiated” tweets, postings, and ads. Twitter, Facebook, and Google in partisan fashion will deplatform, cancel, blue-check, and suspend what is considered incorrect and unhelpful — all in an effort to provide several hundred million dollars in free advertising.

The noble liberal commentariat will advocate patently unethical, illegal, and unhinged nostrums to warp the vote that they think they will otherwise lose. Already the New York Times’ Tom Friedman, as the voice of the good citizen, has urged the anointed to take advantage of Georgia’s liberal voter-residency requirement and move temporarily to the Peach State to deform the vote there: “I hope everybody moves to Georgia, you know, in the next month or two, and votes for these two Democratic senators.”

Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang fleshed out Friedman’s rhetoric by claiming he was soon going to do just that:

The best thing we could do for Joe is to get him a Democratic Senate. There should be coordination of resources. Everyone who campaigned for Joe should get ready to head to Georgia. I’ll go. It’s the only way to sideline Mitch and give Joe a unified government.

Note the left-wing emphasis on subverting Georgia law as “the only way to . . . ”

Meanwhile, Georgia officials reminded such humanitarians and civil libertarians that it is a felony to move to Georgia temporarily to take advantage of its residency laws in order to vote.

The subtext of these elite contortions is, of course, fear that Georgians might still be Georgians. And thus too many of them just might not be entirely deluded by the charade that Warnock and Ossoff are moderates — and thereby something other than the will of the people is needed. Or as Yang put it more clearly: “It looks like Democrats have an uphill climb in Georgia. It seems like it’s because Democratic voters actually need a little bit more awareness.” Is that the logic — dumb Georgians must be made a “little bit” more aware by undermining voting laws?

Should Biden have won the election, the Georgia race will be a showcase for every jockeying Biden-administration wannabe to prove how his greater fealty and zeal deserve greater career spoils. The ubiquitous fabulist Stacey Abrams will hover about, claiming all sorts of superhuman feats to justify an administration appointment.

In the age of No Dark Money, expect left-wing billionaires to pour cash in. Michael Bloomberg, the Steyers, George Soros, and Silicon Valley zillionaires all vie for the honor of “who won Georgia” for the Enlightenment.

In such a climate, Georgia might at least remind us (again) of the new progressive convergence of unverifiable early/mail-in voting, looming threats of street violence, third-party vote harvesting, court-ordered nullification of constitutionally and legislatively sacrosanct state election laws, massaged polling, 1984 Big Tech Trotskyization, billionaire gifting, celebrity vanity, and pathetic elite appeals to alter the voting electorate — all in service of the noble cause of ensuring a packed Supreme Court or ending the Electoral College.

So there is a pattern to all this. The progressive project has — and feels it must have — all the powers of American capitalism, information, technology, and government on its side.

Yet despite all those assets, why does the “people’s party” still act as if it lacks the people?

Time for Donald Trump to Visit Taiwan

A fundament of Donald Trump’s get-tough policy on China has been Taiwan, whose security it has bolstered more than any other administration. But there is one more important step the president can take: travel to Taiwan or send his vice president or secretary of state there.

Trump’s relationship with Taiwan started on a sharp and positive note. Shortly after his election, he took a call from Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen congratulating him on his victory. Such calls are routine and humdrum in most instances, but because of the ridiculous diplomatic constraints placed on Taiwan to the benefit of communist China, this one was remarkable. No other president or president-elect had spoken directly with Taiwan’s leader since Jimmy Carter downgraded America’s diplomatic relations in 1978.

However, Trump likely stopped short of seeing Taiwan as an asset as opposed to another in the long list of U.S. liabilities and unproductive alliances he wanted to reform. If Trump understood the cultural and political usefulness of Taiwan and its free people in undermining the basic justification for the Chinese Communist Party—that ethnically Chinese people require tyranny to avoid chaos—he kept it to himself. He also likely harbored quiet doubts about whether Taiwan would fight if China attacked, holding out long enough for help to arrive from America.

But notwithstanding this lack of enthusiasm, Trump had his administration elevate ties with Taiwan and sell it game-changing weapons—an approach that infuriated China hands and the foreign policy establishment, but which has had bipartisan support in Congress. Trump sent Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to Taiwan, the first visit by a U.S. cabinet secretary in decades. EPA boss Andrew Wheeler may follow suit shortly. 

Trump officials led by deputy national security advisor Matt Pottinger worked with Taiwanese officials and mowed down bureaucratic obstacles in Washington to sell arms with a new goal. Instead of marquee sales symbolizing political support like the F-35 fighter jet—the most expensive jalopy in world history—Washington and Taipei agreed on modest waves of arms sales that are sophisticated but not particularly cutting edge. Trump sold Taiwan weapons like F-16 aircraft, torpedoes, surface-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, and, most recently, mobile anti-ship Harpoon missiles. The idea is to raise the costs of the Chinese invasion that Beijing frequently threatens by making Taiwan a “porcupine,” hard to swallow whole. Even the M1 tanks Washington sold Taipei can be used to shoot at Chinese landing craft.

In a sense, Trump was just complying with the Taiwan Relations Act, which requires the executive branch to sell Taiwan weapons necessary for its self-defense. But prior U.S. administrations had failed to meet this standard, abetted at times by the soft-on-China KMT party, which was recently relegated to near-irrelevance by Taiwanese voters. Under Trump, Washington and Taipei collaborated on the fastest, most efficient steps to create enough doubt in the mind of Chinese leader Xi Jinping about whether Chinese plans to stun the island-nation into submission with a missile attack and invasion would really work.   

Additional obvious steps to deter China like joint military training and a joint military command, similar to what the United States has with Japan and South Korea, will have to wait. But one thing Trump can do to put an appropriate capstone on his policy is visit Taiwan or send Vice President Mike Pence or Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as his representative. 

The bellyaching from the foreign policy establishment alone would make the trip worthwhile. They would say he is violating the One China Policy, encouraging Taiwan to declare formal independence from China, and ruining plans for Joe Biden to engage Xi on cordial terms. If only. In reality, it would violate no agreement with have with Beijing, give confidence to the Taiwanese people to maintain the political status quo, and allow Biden to play the good cop compared to Trump.  

But the real reason to do it would be for its importance for the American people, and for Taiwanese looking down the barrel of a Chinese gun. No American needs reminding of the challenges of 2020, the acrimony of recent years, or of doubts about America after Afghanistan and Iraq. Were Trump, Pence, or Pompeo to visit Taiwan, he would be greeted by cheering crowds exceeding those welcoming President John F. Kennedy during his visit to West Berlin in 1963. The outpouring of excitement and gratitude would be remarkable. It would be the ultimate personification of gratitude not just for a president who stood up to China, or a vice president or secretary of State who eloquently defended those resisting Beijing in Hong Kong and throughout Asia, but of gratitude for the American people.

In effect, the Taiwanese would be reminding us of who we are: that contrary to the moaning and lies of the progressive Left, America has a remarkable and enduring history of freedom and of helping others defend freedom. And we would be reminding China’s illegitimate government that we have its number. Get on a plane and go.

This is my message for the greatest country in the world. In light of the recent events in the United States, I felt morally obliged to shed light on a very similar chain of events in my country during the 90s. The cause of those events was the same; a constantly re-emerging, ultimate evil, nihilistic, non-tastic religion slash cult that caused hundreds of millions of deaths in the 20th century and countless suffering.

Now proponents of that religion want to run the experiment once again, and in that experiment, you, people of America,  will be lab mice. Not so long ago, I was a lab mouse of dictators in my country. That country was Yugoslavia. Rather than giving you lessons about the history of my country, I want to give you the timeline of the events which led to an extremely bloody war and dissolution of the Yugoslavian Federacy. I will leave it to you to make conclusions about similarities with recent events in the United States. 

In the year 1989, the fall of the Berlin wall marked the free world's victory over the tyrannical monstrosity of communism across Europe.  However, Yugoslav communists didn't feel like letting go of their precious powers. Since the climate in Europe was extremely anti-communist at the time, they knew they needed a new strategy, an ideology that would seduce the masses and keep the power in their hands. So, they come up with a very clever idea to re brand communism in Yugoslavia and to change its name into socialism. Not any type of socialism, but a very special type; the National Socialism. 

Sounds familiar. The playbook they used to progress with their agenda was already tested in Nazi Germany: to establish National Socialism, you must first install hatred in people. To create genocidal levels of hatred, you must divide people of one country into well-defined groups.  In other words, you must create tribal or group things. This can be achieved in different ways. You can divide people by ethnicity, by race, by religion. You can let your imagination go wild. 

Since Yugoslavs were white and practically indistinguishable among themselves, the only card they could play was the religion card. Yugoslavia was very mixed religion-wise, and we had Orthodox Christian Serbs, Catholic Croats and Slovenes, and Muslim Bosnians, a perfect starting position.

In the next phase, you must start making such social policies so terrible that it will inevitably lead to countless individual disadvantages. When the consequences of such government policies become obvious,  you must start claiming that the cause of those inequalities is nothing but discrimination and hatred of one group towards another, and naturally, you must start screaming that those inequalities must be corrected by favoring the oppressed discriminated group over the oppressor group. 

Enter national quotas for hiring. Now just replace national with race or women. Once the groups are formed and well defined, it's needless to say that all the mainstream media in Yugoslavia were government-controlled and were fueling the narrative about mutual discrimination and hatred relentlessly. The growing fear and feeling of insecurity destroyed relationships, marriages, and friendships. As the fear of discrimination and hostility among groups was growing, people started retreating and isolating within their own groups because they didn't feel safe anymore with the other group's individuals.

Suddenly, staged and very well organized mass protests started all over the country protest against the oppression and killing of one group by another. At first, those protests were peaceful, but soon enough, rioting and burning started.

Now that you have the attention of the public, you need sparks. What is a spark? A spark is a convenient event of murdering a random member of one group by a hateful member of another, and you usually need more than one of those. At this point, people were still not completely divided. There were still reasonable people left, those who understood we are all one nation under God and that we will not kill each other under any circumstances. They went out protesting together, singing for peace and holding their hands. But, the hunger for the absolute power of socialists was stronger than our love for each other,  and shootings and attacks at protesters continued.

In the next phase, the tipping point with no return was reached. People started directing barricades at their cities' entrance, their neighborhoods, even on highways and roads. Barricades were guarded with armed civilians. Each attempt of the law enforcement to remove barricades and to de-escalate the situation was in vain since they would be ambushed and killed. Peace couldn't be restored anymore because headlines, photos, and videos of dead people propagated through mass media became too explicit and horrifying. Even those hardcore idealists who believed in one nation under God's peace and love snapped under pressure. At that point, the army was deployed to restore order, but they couldn't do much because they were clueless about who was the perpetrator and who was the victim; simply because there were perpetrators and victims on both sides. 

In the final stages, even the army was attacked during the negotiated retreat, and 50 or 100 soldiers were killed. And just like that, Yugoslavia found itself in a civil war; city against city, village against village, family against family, and so on until the whole territories became clean of the members of the enemy group. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, relocation of hundreds of thousands of people were everyday news. It lasted four years. One hundred thousand people died. Some five hundred thousand were displaced. Those people lost everything. Yugoslavia was drowned in the blood of thousands of innocent people and destroyed forever.

You might wonder, how did we let that happen? How could we let things get so much out of control? That was because we didn't realize who were the real enemies—the enemies of the Yugoslav people as a whole. Instead, we were brainwashed into buying the story that we, the people, are the enemies of each other, while our true enemies were advancing with their sick, demented agenda, which had as the ultimate goal of total and unlimited power.

This brings me to present times. The year 2020. And to you, American people, unless you were living under the rock, you might have noticed that something very strange and vicious is happening in your country,  but you're not exactly sure what it is, and where it came from,  because the last time you checked you were one nation under God, a country of free independent individuals with equal rights under the law, and core values of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Suddenly, there is protesting, rioting, arson, murder, destruction of public and private property, and lots of lots of people screaming how unbelievably racist and unjust America is. And before you even manage to prepare your morning coffee and turn the tv on, once united Americans are at each other's throat, and a bunch of nice and caring people on TV tells you how you should accept the violence and hatred against Americans because you deserve it.

If you have paid attention to what happened in Yugoslavia, I hope you have realized by now that your true enemies are not your fellow Americans. The ones who are; they want you to hate each other and to kill each other while they're taking away your constitutional rights, your freedoms, and your country, your heritage, your way of life, and the future of your children. Although it is more than obvious that there are very well organized groups used as tools to install and amplify hate and to create division between Americans, there is only metastasis which has spread through one's healthy America. Of course, they're violent, terrorist organizations, and they must be removed as well, but the main cancer that is killing America, the one where all this mayhem is coming from, is somewhere else.

The real and extremely dangerous enemies of the American people are the elected officials in your government, in your states, in your courts, representatives, governors, mayors, judges, the ones who are pulling the ropes, the ones who hate America and the American people so much that they would even sacrifice the life and prosperity of their own children, just to see it burn to the ground and American blood spilled. Those are really sick, demented, ideologically possessed people, and they are in high government positions. They are governing your states, your cities, and making decisions in your courts. You know very well who they are. You know very well what they already did to once beautiful and prosperous American states and cities. They are resentful, powerful, and bloodthirsty. They want you and your children suffering in misery and begging them for mercy. They won't stop no matter how much you try to please them unless you, the American people, stop them.

You're maybe thinking, "this is not possible," but think again. How many of them tyrants are out there, and how many of you decent American people? What makes them think they can do whatever they want with you? That they can play you for a fool over and over again and that they're invincible? What makes them think they're gods, morally and intellectually superior compared to you freedom-loving Americans?

Yes, you guessed it. The fact that they managed to get away with it. Every single time they faced no pushback and not a single consequence for their crimes against the American people. The time has come for them to pay for their treason.

How should you act? 

The first thing that you must do stop caring whether you've been called a racist, a white supremacist, a selfish person who wants to spread the c 1984, or whatever nice name they have for you. This irrational fear of stigma, a phobia of being called a racist, has way more destructive implications than you can even imagine. Stop caring whether you'll offend anyone. The number of people offended by you practicing your first amendment rights is directly proportional to how successful you are in debt. Which means, the more offended, the merrier. Stop attempting to have a fact or logic-based, rational conversation. Stop explaining yourself; it's useless. You are wasting your precious time and energy. They have a playbook, and changing their minds is not part of it.

Second, exercise your second amendment rights. This means to study carefully and in detail gun laws in your state. Next, arm yourself. If you have never used a gun before, make sure to take basic gun training. This is very important because you must know how to use a gun properly to protect yourself, your family, and your property so that you can avoid hurting yourself or innocent people as a consequence of improper gun use. Be a responsible gun owner.

Third and most important: exercise your first amendment rights. Of course, it is very important to vote in November, but I'm afraid it will not be enough. I have seen such a diversity of ways socialists used to steal the elections in Yugoslavia, and I'm sure your tyrants will give their best to do the same. You must act now. You must go out on the streets, peacefully assemble and protest against tyranny and infringement of your God-given rights, millions and millions of you decent American people. You must have your voices heard.

You must send a very loud and very clear message to the elected officials in the federal government and your states that enough is enough and that you want them to take action now against tyranny. Remind them why you voted for them and why they are elected. Remind them of their sacred duty to protect the vision of the founding fathers of the United States of America.

Tell them you want your constitutional rights defended and protected. Tell them you want your history preserved. Tell them you want to be able to freely. Exercise your rights to free speech, to be able to freely and openly show the love for your country, to be able to proudly put an American flag in front of your house, and to openly show the pride of your heritage, your culture, and your nation. Tell them you stand proudly with American law enforcement and that you've got their back in the same way you want them to have yours. Tell them you want to be treated as grown-up individuals who can make their own decisions.

Tell them that there is no place for socialism in America. Tell them you want the traitors of the American people out of their offices and out of government. Tell them you want them charged and prosecuted for treason and crimes against humanity, and that if they are not removed from the government and their offices, that you freedom-loving Americans will unleash all your anger on tyrants, and you will remove them yourself.

It is your constitutional obligation to protect the legacy of the founding fathers and to fight against any form of a tyrannical government that infringes upon your constitutional rights. Never forget why you celebrate Independence Day.

Don't be afraid of whether you will get attacked for exercising your first amendment rights. You certainly will be. If that happens, defend yourself. Remember, self-defense is not violence. No matter what they tell you and what they accuse you of. If we, free people of the world, lose America, we will lose the world.
