Get Well Allen West. No Mention of Competent. Unions Outlived Their Purpose.

Buy American - Rebuild America

And:

WAPO has encouraged Biden to select a black woman as his running mate.  The word competent was missing. With Democrats, it is always about race, gender and character assassination.

My dear friend Lt. Col. (Ret) Allen West was injured in a motorcycle accident and I sent him the following e mail:

"Allen: A dear friend alerted me to the fact you were injured.  You are too damn old to be thinking you were 40. Praying for your full recovery.  We need you around man.  Me"

Former U.S. Rep. Allen West of Florida was injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Texas.
West’s wife wrote on Facebook Saturday that his motorcycle was hit outside Waco and he was in the emergency room.
But an update on West’s Facebook page Sunday morning said he was recovering and in stable condition. The crash left him with a concussion, several fractured bones and multiple lacerations.
“I am alive by the grace of God,” West said in a statement Sunday morning.
West, a Republican, moved from Florida to Texas after leaving Congress in 2013. He served one term and once called for then-President Barack Obama’s impeachment.
West is running for chair of the Republican Party of Texas.
West led a "Texas Freedom Rally" at the Statehouse in Austin. Earlier Saturday, he led a motorcycle group there from Dallas, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The more I read Amity Shlaes':  "Great Society" the more I realize why unions have outlived most of their reasons to exist.
When Reuther was in charge of the auto union, which came to control the auto industry, his demands for increases in wages and other benefits opened opportunities for foreign car makers to accelerate their penetration of America's domestic market. Why?  a) First, the American car manufacturers were making and selling a more expensive car because labor costs had increased.  b) Second, as  labor costs increased productivity declined and c) As these two events were occurring, American manufacturers cut back on innovation and began to make a less competitive products selling at a higher cost.
The consequence of all this is that union members, as well as non union members, lost their jobs and what domestic car manufacturers remained many moved south to states that did not force mandatory unions and/or moved plants out of the country.
The blame is not only on the union side but Reuther seldom listened to practical demands of the manufacturers and simply bulldozed them.
Yes, there was a time when management had the upper hand and treated their workers unfairly but those times have pretty much been supplanted by competition and practical necessities.
Another observation is that the Coronavirus has resulted in many medical and drug development related laws to be abandoned so  an effective vaccine can be discovered and produced more quickly.
One of the reasons cars and medicines cost as much as they do is because of over-regulation,  Automobile innovative /styling design is now dictated by safety laws and the high cost of American drugs is due to burdensome regulatory delays, rules and regulations.  Why, in an emergency are these laws dropped/loosened if they are so critical for safety reasons?
The pandemic is also causing rethinking regarding a lot of life and work style issues as well.  Apparently productivity increases when one works at home and the cost to the  employer and employee declines if only due to rent and travel cost declines.
Necessity is the mother of invention while change causes resistance.
