Debunking Sunny Hostin’s claim that black Republicans are an ‘oxymoron’

By Adam Coleman

The combination of the Constitution’s 15th and 19th amendments gave black men and women the right to vote in any election for whomever they decide, yet there are some who misinterpret our ability to vote as being determinative of what party we should vote for. While it is true that the majority of black Americans vote Democrat, those amendments gave us the right to vote with our individual interests in mind and not be gatekept in the political process.

Sunny Hostin, co-host of the daytime show “The View,” had a moment of honest ignorance Friday as she stated, “I don’t understand black Republicans,” and said a black Republican is “an oxymoron.”

People were rightly shocked at her statement, but I wasn’t. Because I’ve heard this type of rhetoric my entire life, to the point of somewhat believing it myself at one point. This mentality is mainstream because Americans, of all races, have been trained to believe black people are supposed to consistently behave in a monolithic manner and be in alignment with their social and political interests.

Certain black people enjoy gatekeeping other black people, and when you step out of line, they will gladly enforce a level of racial ostracization — or in the words of President Joe Biden, they’ll remind you, “You ain’t black.” The reason our president can flippantly state what black is or what black does, as a white person, is that our powerful black gatekeepers are in full agreement with his sentiment.

From how we talk to whom we cast our ballot for, we are supposed to perform in a way that is “suitably black.” Anyone who deviates from what our gatekeepers consider tolerable will be accused of wanting to disassociate from their people by traitorously aligning themselves with the opposition: white people.

Many people have lose faith in the Democratic party, especially under President Biden’s leadership.

This gatekeeper mentality that Sunny possesses prevents her from honestly assessing why someone black would consider voting Republican. The simple answer to her question: the same reason anyone from any other race would vote for the Republican Party. They feel that their personal interests or values are more represented by the GOP, whether you agree with their interests or not.

I think, however, the most pertinent question to ask today is: Why should black Americans continue to blindly vote “blue” when many are disappointed with the Democratic Party’s behavior?

Why should I continue to vote for a party that uses black people as a political football when it deems it necessary to toss us around? Why should I continue to vote for a party that platforms woke white supremacists who claim that no matter what I do, I will never have more privilege than them? Why should I continue to vote for a party that thinks infantilizing black people helps any of us?

This is not the first time people have heard of comments similar to Hostin’s.

believe political parties should not be viewed by race.

Much of black American history has been about us overcoming tyranny so we can become self-governing — yet many Democrats still see our existence as inherently restrictive and requiring pity.

It has become abundantly clear that the Democratic Party sees me as a member of a downtrodden voting bloc that primarily cares about prison reform, reparations and if white people are nice to me.

The Democratic Party before my very eyes has morphed into an anti-liberal and identity-driven political party that promotes black gatekeeping, superficial symbolism aimed at its black voters and policy-driven lowered expectations. It has chosen to wholeheartedly embrace the woke-progressive social outlook by viewing black people as permanently unfortunate victims rather than historical victors against governmental tyranny and highly capable of excelling without needing political handouts.

People like Sunny fail to understand that former Democrats like myself didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left us. Democrats have taken extreme positions that political moderates like me find undesirable, and they’ve become insufferably illiberal.

The Republicans, meanwhile, have become the party of classical liberalism by advocating against censorship while fighting to protect our children from the very ideological extremists that the Democrats willfully platform.

Sunny may live in a wealthy progressive New York City bubble, but in future elections, her bubble is going to burst when she realizes that the Democratic Party is hemorrhaging voters, including their convenient political footballs, black voters.

Roe V. Wade Has Completely Transformed The Midterms – Here’s How

Daily Caller News Foundation logo

The abortion debate has become a major focus in the midterms after a leaked draft decision from the Supreme Court indicated Roe v. Wade will be overturned.

“[Democrats are] gonna use every single dirty trick in the book, so I do think that we should be a little more on the offensive,” Carson Steelman, press secretary for Heritage Action, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Multiple Republicans in battleground states have emphasized that little will change in their state if Roe was thrown out, while Democrats have argued the opposite.

“We’re going to take the Supreme Court ruling where it is right now and wait until this draft really comes through,” Torunn Sinclair, national press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee, told the DCNF.

Both Republicans and Democrats have been forced to reconfigure their election strategies only six months before the midterms due to the unprecedented leak from the Supreme Court indicating Roe v. Wade will be overturned.

Many Democrats have made clear they intend to hammer opponents across the aisle on the implications of Roe being overturned and while Republicans have celebrated the decision, several have largely focused on the leak and others have been reluctant to press the abortion issue.

The Republican campaign strategy has instead emphasized other issues ahead of the midterms, such as increased prices due to inflation and the ongoing energy crisis.

“The top issue is still inflation. People are worried about the rising cost of gas and rising prices at the grocery store. That is what is affecting people’s everyday lives,” Torunn Sinclair, national press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Candidates in battleground races have argued that abortion would likely still exist in their states without Roe. In Nevada, leading Republican Senate primary candidate Adam Laxalt called the decision a “historic victory” but also said that abortion is “currently settled law,” because “the people of Nevada have already voted to make abortion rights legal in our state,” Politico reported.

In Wisconsin, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, who faces reelection in November, said “abortion is not going away,” even though it “might be a little messy for some people,” The Wall Street Journal reported.

“I just don’t think this is going to be the big political issue everybody thinks it is, because it’s not going to be that big a change,” he said.

Sinclair cited a Texas abortion law passed in 2021 that has already severely restricted abortion access as proof restrictive measures do not hinder Republicans like Democrats expect. The law bans the procedure after a fetal heartbeat is detected, typically around six weeks of pregnancy.

Should Roe be overturned, the state of Texas also has a trigger law that would ban all abortions 30 days after it’s tossed, except in the case where the mother’s life is at risk or there could be “substantial impairment of major bodily function,” The Texas Tribune reported.

However, some conservative activists and Republicans have suggested the party go on the offensive on the abortion issue.

Mallory Carroll, vice president of communications at the Susan B. Anthony List, said Republicans need to be more aggressive and use the opportunity to “expose the extremism” of the Democratic platform, citing Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, who has already gone after Laxalt on the issue, Politico reported.

“We just want to encourage all candidates to go on offense … regardless of the state because, even in deep-blue states, the level of extremism that Democrats have reached is really untenable,” Carroll told TheDCNF. “That’s something we’re communicating to all of our candidates.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee sent similar talking points to its candidates after the leak, arguing conservatives should go after Democrats by tying them to unpopular abortion policies, like late-term and taxpayer-funded abortions.

A CNN poll released after the leak showed those in favor of overturning Roe were almost twice as likely to say they were very enthusiastic about voting in November compared to those who want to keep the landmark ruling in place. Even among pro-choice women in the suburbs, a key demographic that Democrats have courted in recent years, the economy is the top concern.

Across the aisle, however, Democrats dove headfirst into the issue, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issuing a press release Monday stating the party would “fight relentlessly to enshrine Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.”

Liberals have already begun to seize on Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s remarks hinting at the possibility Republicans pass a national ban on abortion if Roe is no longer in effect, The Hill reported. (RELATED: McConnell Trolls Trump With Monogrammed Whiskey Gift To Fellow Senators)

“In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, upcoming decision, Leader McConnell acknowledged that a national ban on abortion is now possible without Roe, if Republicans reclaim the majority — hear that, America?” Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in response, The Hill reported.

Democratic Senators Discuss Next Week's Vote To Codify Roe v. Wade

“They’re gonna use every single dirty trick in the book, so I do think that we should be a little more on the offensive about the integrity of our institutions and protecting the Supreme Court from intimidation, from bullying,” Carson Steelman, press secretary for Heritage Action, told TheDCNF. (RELATED: Democrats In Danger Of Losing Key Senate Seat)

Carroll told TheDCNF that the issue of abortion should be left up to the states, but said Republicans choosing to promote a federal ban would not conflict with that message.

“I think they go together,” she said. “I mean, the leader’s right that in the past, pro-life lawmakers here in Washington have talked about the need for federal protections and they’ve taken action to that regard.”

“The best pro-life law is the one that can pass and can save lives,” she added. “I think they’re compatible.”

Opinion Protesting at justices’ homes is illegal. What is Biden doing about it?

By Marc A. Thiessen

A hanger symbolizing abortion is seen in chalk on the ground outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh in Chevy Chase, Md., on May 7. (Craig Hudson/For the Washington Post)

Protesters outside Brett M. Kavanaugh’s house warned the Supreme Court justice this weekend, “If you take away our choices, we will riot.” They marched on Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.’s home chanting “Abort the court!” and stood outside the home of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. (who apparently did not vote to overturn Roe v. Wade) yelling “The whole world is watching!”

This is not just noxious behavior; it is illegal. Federal law — Section 1507 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code — clearly states that it is unlawful to protest near a “residence occupied or used by [a] judge, juror, witness, or court officer” with the intent of influencing “the discharge of his duty,” adding that anyone who “uses any sound-truck or similar device or resorts to any other demonstration in or near any such building or residence, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

The reason is simple: It is obstruction of justice. Just as it is against the law to tamper with witnesses or jurors by intimidating them or their family, it’s unlawful to tamper with a Supreme Court justice by coming to their home to threaten, harass or coerce them to influence their vote in a case before the court.

So, what is the Biden administration doing about it? This is a federal statute, so it’s Attorney General Merrick Garland’s responsibility to enforce it. When the National School Boards Association wrote to President Biden complaining about angry parents showing up at school board meetings, Garland immediately issued a memorandum to the director of the FBI ordering him to “convene meetings … in each federal judicial district” to discuss “strategies for addressing threats” made by parents. The Justice Department further announced Garland would form “a task force, consisting of representatives from the department’s … National Security Division” — created by the Patriot Act to investigate terrorists — to “determine how federal enforcement tools can be used to prosecute these crimes.”

Garland declared at the time, “Threats against public servants are not only illegal, they run counter to our nation’s core values.” I’m sorry, are Supreme Court justices not public servants? Does attempting to intimidate them not run counter to our nation’s core values? In the case of the school boards association, not one of the incidents they cited involved a violation of federal law, yet Garland swung into action. But the harassment of justices at their homes does violate federal law and what is Garland doing? Despite multiple inquiries, Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley refused to explain what steps Garland was taking to protect justices or enforce the law.

The Post's View: Leave the justices alone at home

Garland’s failure to act is an appalling dereliction of duty. So is Biden’s failure to condemn the protests. During his victory speech after the election, Biden declared that it was time “stop treating our opponents as our enemy.” In his inaugural address, he promised to “end this uncivil war” and put “my whole soul” into “bringing America together.”

Not only has he failed to fulfill that promise, he has modeled the bad behavior these protesters are now emulating. When Republicans blocked his partisan election law, Biden accused them of standing with racists and traitors, and called them “enemies” of America, thundering, “I will defend the right to vote, our democracy against all enemies — foreign and, yes, domestic.” That sent a signal that our fellow Americans who disagree with us are in fact “enemies” and can be treated as such. When someone is your enemy, then there is nothing to stop you from showing up at their house to threaten and intimidate them.

Asked last Friday about the group calling itself “Ruth Sent Us,” which published the locations of the justices’ homes on its website, White House press secretary Jen Psaki refused to condemn the doxing. “We want people to protest peacefully if they want to,” she said, adding that she didn’t have “an official U.S. government position on where people protest.”

There is in fact an “official U.S. government position on where people protest” — it’s 18 U.S.C. 1507. After someone firebombed a pro-life group’s offices in Wisconsin on Sunday, Psaki belatedly tweeted that the Biden “strongly believes in the Constitutional right to protest. But that should never include violence, threats, or vandalism.” It took someone throwing a Molotov cocktail at pro-lifers to elicit even that mild criticism. What will it take to get the president to order his attorney general to enforce federal law barring harassment of the justices and their families in their homes?

Last year, when left-wing protesters followed Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) into a bathroom, filming as they yelled at her over her opposition to Biden’s Build Back Better legislation, the president dismissed her harassment, declaring it was “part of the process.” It’s not. It’s appalling behavior. But it’s not illegal. Well, harassing Supreme Court justices in their homes is against the law. It’s time for Biden to enforce that law before someone gets hurt

Finally:

What I Saw When Protesters Marched to Supreme Court Justices’ Homes

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Humans have a bad habit of judging without truly knowing. I am guilty of it and am sure you are as well. In the case of Trump, his abrasive personality was used by the mass media and the "Trump Hater" crowd to do everything in their power to defeat him.  Why?Because, his torpedoes were aimed at those in power, the elitists.

Consequently, large numbers were manipulated to focus on his prickly cactus personality and not what he did and accomplished. It was obvious in 2020, America needed to change and, yes, it took a leap of blind faith to entrust Donald Trump with the key to The Oval Office.

When  matters have reached an extreme level, it often takes an extreme solution.  I thought we were at that point and I placed my faith in Donald and in most ways he exceeded my expectations.  First, he actually did what he campaigned on and said he would.  Second, he approached Gordian Knot issues from an outside the box approach.  What he did regarding peace in The Middle East and vis a vis Israel is a classic illustration.

Beyond that, his approach to NATO was one of pure common sense as was his desire to address the illegal immigration issue. It would have been impossible to accomplish anything legislatively because he did not have the votes so he turned to something he knew and could do - construct a barrier. Timing is essential and though he is a man on fire he also knew when he was not holding the necessary cards.

When it came to addressing issues with our adversaries Trump did so from the view that America came first and he was very sober and realistic about the abuse we had allowed previous policies to place us in and he was tough.  This actually came as  a shock to China and N Korea as well as Iran who had been allowed to get away with theft, lies and murder. He reversed the idea that  we would tolerate being "sucker punched."

Because of his "turn off" ways we reverted back to what brought us to initially elect Trump and now we are paying a tragic price.

There are  times when you must accept some bad with good to move forward and out of the hole you are in but we were unable to swallow the "Trump Pill" so now we are drowning in something far worse, ie "Biden mediocrity, cowardice and brain dead solutions driven by pique."

We cannot allow this to continue. The world is moving quickly and we are being challenged and disadvantaged daily. China's military is exceeding our own capabilities in many specific areas.  Iran is moving towards becoming a nuclear power and N Korea is moving beyond the ability to strike our nation.  The Ukraine War demonstrates  we cannot trust Putin's word and his inability to accomplish his goal opens several windows of opportunity to exploit

If we re-elect Democrats whose focus is totally on social matters and inane policies of self-destruction and self-hate we are doomed. It is time to man-up, swallow hard and do right by America if there is to be an America.

I am not advocating I want Trump re-elected but should he be the nominee I would vote for him again.  However, my candidates should at least convince me they will implement the Trump policies and reverse the tragedies of Biden.
