"Real Time" Liberal host Bill Maher
closed his show Friday night by sounding the alarm on China's growing
dominance over the United States.
"You're not going to win the battle for
the 21st century if you are a silly people. And Americans are a silly
people," Maher began the monologue, alluding to a "Lawrence of
Arabia" quote.
Do you know who doesn't care that there's a
stereotype of a Chinese man in a Dr. Seuss book? China," he said
the1.4 billion of them couldn't give a crouching tiger flying f---
because they're not a silly people. If anything, they are as
serious as a prison fight."
Maher acknowledged that China does "bad
stuff" from the concentration camps of Uyghur Muslims to its
treatment of Hong Kong.
But he stressed, "There's got to be
something between an authoritarian government that tells everyone
what to do and a representative government that can't do
anything at all."
"In two generations, China has built 500
entire cities from scratch, moved the majority of their huge population
from poverty to the middle class, and mostly cornered the market
in 5G and
pharmaceuticals. Oh, and they bought
Africa," Maher said, pointing to China's global Silk Road infrastructure initiative.
He continued: "In China alone, they have
40,000 kilometers of high-speed rail. America has none. ... We've
been having Infrastructure Week every week since 2009 but
we never do anything. Half the country is having a never-ending
woke competition deciding whether Mr. Potato Head has a d--- and the
other half believes we have to stop the lizard people because
they're eating babies. We are a silly people.
"Nothing ever moves in this impacted
colon of a country. We see a problem and we ignore it, lie about it, fight
about it, endlessly litigate it, sunset clause it, kick it down
the road, and then write a bill where a half-assed solution doesn't
kick in for 10 years," Maher explained. "China sees a problem
and they fix it. They build a dam. We debate what to rename it."
The HBO star cited how it took "ten years" for a bus line in San Francisco to pass its environmental review and how it took "16 years" to build the Big Dig tunnel in Boston, comparing that to a 57-story skyscraper that China built in "19 days" and Beijing's
Sanyuan Bridge, which was demolished and
rebuilt in "43 hours."
"We binge-watch, they binge-build.
When COVID hit Wuhan, the city built a quarantine center with 4,000 rooms in
10 days and they barely had to use it because they quickly
arrested the rest of the disease," Maher said. "They were
back to throwing raves in swimming pools while we were stuck at home surfing the
dark web for black market Charmin. We're not losing to China, we
lost. The returns just haven't all come in yet. They've made robots
that check a kid's
temperature and got their asses back in
school. Most of our kids are still pretending to take Zoom classes while
they watch TikTok and their brain cells fully commit ritual
suicide."
Maher then blasted Democratic New York City
Mayor Bill de Blasio, accusing him of degrading school standards by
eliminating merit and substituting a lottery system for admittance
to schools for advanced learners."Do you think China's doing that,
letting political correctness get
in the way of nurturing their best and
brightest?" Maher continued "Do you think Chinese colleges are
offering courses in 'The Philosophy of Star Trek, 'The Sociology of
Seinfeld,' and 'Surviving the Coming Zombie Apocalypse'? Those are real
and so is China. And
they are eating our lunch. And believe me, in
an hour, they'll be hungry again."

Share Tweet Share EmWhile many U.S. and western naval analysts mock China’s two (first-generation) ski-ramp medium carriers as a bit of a joke, they miss the point that they have a role, like our America-class amphibious assault ships, and are also test beds for China‘s real carriers being built. And satellite images are revealing that the next, more advanced carrier, Type-003 still under construction in Shanghai, will be a monster.
It could be in many ways comparable to a U.S. supercarrier, at least in size and minimal capabilities, though slightly shorter in overall length. Significantly, unlike U.S. carriers, the Type-003 is not expected to be nuclear powered, as the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has not been able to perfect (or steal) the technology required for nuclear propulsion of that size.
Apparently, nuclear reactors for their submarines were easier to develop.
This will of course limit the range of the ship and will require at-sea-refueling – both are operational hindrances at long distances from China’s mainland, but less so if operating closer to shore.
We estimate the waterline length at about 300 meters (985 feet). This is slightly less than the Ford Class’ 317 meters (1,040 feet) but longer than the previous carriers. China’s Type-001 Liaoning and Type-002 Shandong carriers are about 270 meters (885 feet) long at the waterline.
The catapult take-off will be a step up in capabilities to the existing Chinese carriers. These use a short take-off but arrested recovery (STOBAR) system with a ski-jump bow. It seems likely that without a catapult fitted, the earlier two will not be able to operate the new KJ-600 plane.
This airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft is China’s analogue to the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. It promises to greatly increase the situational awareness of the carrier battle group. With this plane the Type-003 will make the PLAN one of only three navies with fixed winger carrier based AEW, joining the US Navy and Marine Nationale (French Navy).
While similar to U.S supercarriers, Naval News explains that the real closest equivalent is likely to be France’s next-generation carrier, the PANG (Porte-avions de nouvelle génération). That warship will have a waterline length of 305 meters (1,000 feet), though its flight deck will be shorter at 300 meters (984 ft). The PANG will also continue to be nuclear-powered, like its predecessor the Charles de Gaulle.
Combined with the expected CATOBAR catapult launch configuration, where jets are launched by a catapult and recovered using arrestor gear, China’s Type-003 will be able to carry heavier, more effective aircraft with larger payloads and ranges.
Still to be determined is whether the Chinese carrier will perfect and deploy the electromagnetic catapult system the U.S. Navy is having so many problems with on the newest Ford-class supercarrier. Initial reports showed the PLAN was having similar problems. ADN Share Tweet Share Email

Those whose goal has been to destroy/transform America have been at it for decades. They have tried different tactics at varying times. Some have worked, others have not.
I believe there are several minimum tactics that have been effective mainly because we are, or have been, a free and open society. However, I believe our freedoms have allowed us to become dulled to threats. We would rather shop, spend and enjoy our leisure than read and inform ourselves about external as well as internal threats.
a) Radicals have been planning America's overthrow because our success threatens their demoniacal goals.
b) Radicals have infiltrated our democratic, educational, political and mass-media institutions in order to spread their propaganda and alter our way of life.
c) Divide and conquer, while spreading discord among the races, is one of the radical's "filet" efforts. By hurling intimidating racial epithets they have been able to still opposing voices.
d) Running for elected offices for various sensitive government positions and seeking jobs in media and education radicals have been able to worm their way into the very bowels of our society thus, subtlety positioning themselves to bring about radical change.
e) Perhaps one of their most fruitful efforts is their ability to leverage their disruptive messaging through technology and SCOTUS' rulings pertaining to campaign funding. Billionaires, like Soros and the Zuckerberg's of this world, have been afforded opportunities to both press and suppress by a variety of effective means. One extremely successful way is funding campaigns of candidates who oppose our law and order society. Thus, defund police. riot, destroy and intimidate law enforcement in the hope such will incite an untoward response.
As America's racial and ethnic composure changes, large voting bloc's demand special consideration and this lends itself to divisions among voters giving radicals opportunities to manipulate these fissures.
The Democrat Party is particularly guilty of pandering to voting bloc's and using a variety of weaponizing techniques to remain in power to the detriment of the nation as a whole. An entire category of words has evolved to describe their personal attack efforts: "wokeness," critical race theory," "re-education," "whiteness," "reparations," victimization," "voter restraint" are among them etc.
These words are meant to enrage, to convey prejudices where none even exist.
Stacey Abrams has embraced the cudgel that Georgia's Voting Laws and new legislation restricts black voters because they must identify themselves with valid identification as if they are a race incapable of accomplishing basic and reasonable activities. It is demeaning. Nevertheless her lies have been effective because demagogues are expert at marketing views that embody negative connotations when race is involved.
How best to fight this is one of the greatest challenges facing our nation.

This senator reveled in the embarrassment and did everything he could to leverage it politically against Ford. Despite the efforts of this U.S. Senator--President Ford managed to rescue 1,500 South Vietnamese allies prior to the country's fall. Had President Ford not acted quickly, these people would have been targeted and slaughtered for their support for America . When they arrived in America , President Ford asked Congress for a package to assist these refugees to integrate into American society
That SAME troublesome SENATOR TORPEDOED ANY SUPPORT for these shell shocked, anti-communist, Americans and our helpers, the refugees.
Instead, President Ford had to recruit Christian organizations to offer assistance on a voluntary basis. As he did so, the Senator belittled those efforts. What kind of person would oppose President Ford's tireless work to do the right and humanitarian thing? Who would want to play politics with the well-being of innocent people who stood by America in the tragic Vietnam War?
