In a recent memo I posted news about the government settling with conservative groups who alleged they were discriminated against by Susan Lerner and the IRS.  The settlement allowed the IRS to go free of any guilt and/or  blame but the amount of the settlement suggested they were guilty.

Lerner, of course, denied she had anything to do with the matter or was directed by The Obama Administration to act accordingly.

Tax payer money was sent to American Citizens because a left winger engaged in illegal activity. Yet, the agency struck a deal and were allowed to get off the hook as long as they paid your tax dollars in order to allow one of their employees to also get off the hook.

This is called justice. No one goes to jail and tax payers are the suckers left holding the bag.  What kind of message does this send to those bureaucrats who commit crimes and the government pays?  Another brand of welfare?

It is a waste of time believing government waste can and/or will be curtailed by either party.  This is not the way government works because when most programs begin they eventually achieve automatic pilot status. Nor is wasteful spending limited to one party.

The Post Office is a perfect example.  In order for everyone to have postal access politicians fund inefficiency in an increasingly competitive environment.  Public companies pick off the low hanging fruit and escape demands they service unprofitable routes.

The price of stamps is going up another 10% by the end of this month. Raising prices is not the way to broaden usage.  It will curtail demand and simply lead to the next round of increases which has a spiraling effect. .(See 2 below.)

Sent to me by a dear friend and fellow memo reader.

He explains why deplorables voted for Trump.  This accords with Salena Vito's analysis as well. (See 3 below.)

Will Hillary's fake Steel Dossier finally catch up with her?

Is it even thinkable she could be indicted and if found guilty receive a jail sentence.  More perversely could a magnanimous President Trump then pardon her?  (See 4 below.)

And so it goes! (See 5 below.)

Now for some humorous responses. (See 6 below.)

Here Are 8 Wasteful Things Democrats Have Voted To Fund That Cost More Than The Border Wall

By Ashe Schow

Aside from now claiming a wall to reduce illegal immigration into the United States is “immoral,” Democrats have refused to provide additional funding for border security measures they have supported in the past when a Democrat was president.

Tom Elliott, the founder and editor of Grabien, went through the Citizens Against Government Waste’s (CAGW) data on where government spending can be cut — their 2018 “Prime Cuts” — and gathered a list of expenditures Democrats have supported that cost more than the $5.7 billion President Donald Trump is asking for border security. To be fair, Republicans have supported these wasteful projects as well.
1. Rural Utility Service
Taxpayers spend $8.2 billion a year on this program, which was originally intended to bring electricity to rural communities. That was achieved, but as with most government programs, the goal is never to solve a problem, but to continue collecting money from taxpayers. Now the program claims to bring broadband access to communities of less than 20,000 residents, but as Elliott notes, “there’s no indication the ‘beneficiaries’ of this expensive government agency actually appreciate the program, and the majority of its projects are not completed on time or within budget.”
2. Sugar Subsidies
Technically, these subsidies cost taxpayers $1.2 billion a year, but CAGW notes that the 5-year savings amounts to $6 billion — more than Trump’s border security. Considering members of the Left keep trying to tax sodas and other sugary drinks, it’s odd they continue to provide subsidies to the production of those drinks.
3. Community Development Grants
Even President Barack Obama suggested this program should be reined in, though that doesn’t mean it actually was. Still, it continues to get $3 billion a year (the five-year savings would then total $15 billion). The original intention for these grants was to help failing American cities, but, as we’ve learned from other government projects, the results of the program have been underwhelming. Plagued with dysfunction, the program sends grants to wealthy communities and fails to produce “accountability and results.”
4. The United Nations
The U.S. continues to give more and more money yearly to the U.N. In 2016, the U.S. gave $10 billion — a 57% increase over the 2009 contribution. CAGW doesn’t suggest eliminating funding for the U.N. but suggests cutting the contribution by 25% to save $12.5 billion over five years.
5. Amtrak
Eliminating the federal subsidies for Amtrak could save $9.7 billion over five years. Amtrak could be turned over to the private sector, as it currently is dependent upon federal subsidies to survive.
6. Unused Federal Real Estate
Taxpayers spend $1.7 billion annually maintaining unused federal buildings. In fiscal year 2016, “federal agencies owned 3,120 buildings that were vacant (unutilized), and another 7,859 that were partially empty (underutilized),” the Congressional Research Service found in 2017. Selling these excess properties could net $15 billion in savings over five years.
7. Foreign Aid
Taxpayers spend more than $50 billion a year on foreign aid — even to countries that dislike America. As Elliott points out, “Cutting these donations back just 10 percent would be enough to fund the wall.”
8. Waste, Fraud, and Abuse
Sure, this phrase gets thrown around a lot, but the Government Accountability Office estimates more than $137 billion a year goes toward “payment errors” to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and won’t implement the kind of protections against fraud that credit card companies use. Congress, however, wound down a program that was supposed to police fraud within Medicare.
While making any one of the above cuts could easily fund Trump’s border security measures, there are numerous instances of federal expenditures that are wasteful, and together could pay for some Trump’s border security. Each year, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) collects these egregious examples into a “Waste Report.” Examples include “$76 million in stipends to soldiers in the Somali National Army, devoting over $650,000 to develop a drama series to air in Afghanistan, spending up to $1 million on helping support and develop the legislative process in Libya, and setting aside $18 million to support tourism in Egypt.”
Paul’s 2018 Waste Book found $114 million in government waste — nowhere near enough for Trump’s security, but it could help.

3)   Like many citizens, I've wondered and tried hard to understand why President Trump has such a remarkable following.  (It's obvious why he probably should not)!  Then a friend sent me this raccoon story.  It makes no difference about your political leanings, this is just a good explanation of WHY....(or it's as good as any I can come up with).
If you really want to know how most people feel, and this applies to both democrats and republicans, read below  It says it all.------You've been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and your basement is infested with raccoons.  Hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement.  You want them gone immediately.  You call the city and 4 different exterminators, but nobody can handle the job.  But there is this one guy and he guarantees to get rid of them, so you hire him.  You don't care if the guy smells, you don't care if the guy swears, you don't care if he's an alcoholic, you don't care how many times he's been married, you don't care if he has a plumber's crack, you simply want those raccoons gone!
You want your problem fixed!  He's the guy.  He's the best!
    Here's why we want Trump.
Yes he's a bit of a jerk; yes he's an egomaniac; but we don't care  The country is a mess because politicians suck, the Republicans and Democrats can be two-faced and gutless, and illegals are everywhere.  We want it all fixed!  We don't care that Trump is crude, we don't care that he insults people, we don't care that he has changed positions, we don't care that he's been married 3 times, we don't care that he fights with Megan Kelly and Rosie O'Donnell, we don't care that he doesn't know the name of some Muslim terrorist.
This country became weak and bankrupt, our enemies were making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegals, we are becoming a nation of victims where every Tom, Ricardo, and Hasid is a special group with special rights to a point where we don't even recognize the country we were born and raised in; "AND WE JUST WANT IT FIXED".  And Trump is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want.

We're sick of politicians, sick of Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and sick of illegals.  We just want this thing fixed.  Trump may not be a saint, but we didn't vote for a Pope.  We voted for a man who doesn't have lobbyist money holding him back, a man who doesn't have political correctness restraining him.  We all know that he has been very successful, he's a good negotiator, he has built a lot of things, and he's also not a politician, not a cowardly politician.  And he says he'll fix it.  And we believe him because he is too much of an egotist to be proven wrong or looked at and called a liar.  Also, we don't care if the guy has bad hair.  We just want those raccoons gone, out of our house NOW.

4)Trump's Russia Dossier Could End in Criminal Charges...for Hillary
  • by: AAN Staff

A supposed dossier of opposition research on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump is at the center of an ongoing FBI investigation, allegations of political persecution by federal agencies and an effort by liberals to impeach Trump and remove him from the presidency.

But in what would be a spectacular backfire, the presidential candidate who may face jail over the dossier isn’t Trump, but Hillary Clinton, whose campaign appears to have broken federal law in creating the document.

The controversy began when, after the 2016 presidential election, members of the media were shopped a supposed research document claiming Trump has illegal business ties with the Russian government and engaged in relationships with Russian prostitutes.

The leaks and the ensuing FBI investigation have ensnared Trump and his allies in allegations they are secret Russian agents, even though the dossier’s claims have been debunked.

That document had been written by a foreign spy on behalf of the D.C. research firm “Fusion GPS.” After months of speculation as to who ordered and paid for it, it was revealed the dossier was produced for Hillary Clinton and the DNC at the direction of Marc Elias, who served as an attorney for both.

Under the arrangement, Elias directed Fusion GPS to compile for the Clinton campaign and the DNC opposition research on Trump. Fusion GPS then hired former British spy Christopher Steele, who compiled a document which claimed the Russian government had compromising information on Trump. The dossier claimed Russia agreed to help Trump win, and he would do their bidding if elected, or else they would release the damaging information.

But Elias, Clinton and the DNC had a problem. Under federal law, political campaigns and committees are required to publicly report on what they spend money, and who they hired to do it. If “Fusion GPS” were to appear on the publicly-published Federal Election Commission reports on campaign spending by Clinton campaign and DNC, the Trump campaign could begin looking into the transaction and realize he was being investigated.

In order to hide Fusion GPS’s involvement from the public, Elias arranged for the Clinton campaign and DNC to pay his law firm, Perkins Coie, who would then funnel the money to Fusion GPS. That ensured “Fusion GPS” would not appear on FEC reports, concealing the transaction.

Perkins Coie did not order the dossier and performed no work on the dossier, and Fusion GPS was not a company under Perkins Coie, so they were not the true recipient of payments intended to finance the dossier.

Elias initially hired Fusion GPS in April 2016. The Clinton campaign and DNC would make payments on work for the dossier, funneled through Perkins Coie, until October 2016, just a few days before the election. It was likely intended for use in the final debate with Trump.

The Clinton campaign and DNC did not use any of the claims detailed in the dossier, either because they did not find the claims credible or believed Clinton was almost certain to win and did not want to disrupt the news cycle.

It was only after the election, in which Trump shocked Clinton, that the dossier was leaked to the media and used as a pretext to accuse him of “collusion” with the Russian government.

But Trump may not the one in final legal jeopardy.

Under federal campaign finance law, it’s illegal to route campaign payments through a third party to conceal to whom the payment was intended. Federal campaign finance laws are written to require campaigns to be transparent and fully report on what they spend money. Prosecutors generally agree to structure payments to hide the intended recipient constitute filing false reports.

In fact, the Justice Department recently prosecuted a major presidential campaign for doing just that.

In 2015, federal prosecutors indicted, convicted and sentenced three members of Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign for structuring payments to Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson so they went to a film company, who then paid his campaign consulting company.

While Iowa legislative rules forbid presidential campaigns from paying state senators, the payments are not illegal and Sorenson would only have been accused of violating chamber rules. Just as the Clinton campaign did not want “Fusion GPS” appearing on their reports, the Paul campaign did not want Sorenson’s name appearing on theirs.

Just as paying Fusion GPS for research was legal, the payments to Sorensen were legal. Just as the funds expended for Fusion GPS were legally reported in that the amounts, dates and name on the check, Perkins Coie, so were the Paul campaign’s payments to the film company.

But since the film company did not perform Sorenson’s service or arrange the relationship, prosecutors successfully argued the arrangement concealed the true nature of the payments. The three Republican presidential campaign staffers were convicted of causing the filing of false FEC reports.

That leaves Elias, Clinton and the DNC in a precarious legal position. If they structured payments for a politically sensitive service so the name of the recipient would be concealed from the public, they engaged in activity the Justice Department and both a federal judge and jury have ruled is a crime.

In fact, the indictment against the Republican presidential campaign was announced just weeks after the Clinton campaign entered into a nearly identical arrangement with Fusion GPS and Perkins Coie.

That leaves federal prosecutors with a choice. Do they admit such arrangements are legal and vacate their convictions against Republicans?

Or do they enforce the law equally and file charges against Hillary Clinton and the DNC?
