Texas Governor Abbott Finally Gets a Challenger With Massive Name Recognition

Texas Governor Greg Abbott took a huge hit to his popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic when he both shut the state down for a time and then instituted a mask mandate across the state against the will of a majority of Texans. The left attempted to put the power outage suffered by Texans during the state’s freeze at his feet as well, and while he does take responsibility, he’s made it clear that The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) assured him repeatedly the power grid could withstand the lower temperatures.
After all of this, it’s clear that Abbott’s popularity is bleeding and that blood in the water is attracting challengers. While many have announced their intention to run against the sitting governor, few have actually presented an actual threat.
However, during the 4th of July celebrations, that may have changed.
It would appear that retired Army lieutenant colonel and current Texas GOP chairman Allen West has declared his intention to run for Governor of the Lone Star State. During an appearance at the Sojourn Church in Carrollton, Texas, West played this video below, officially throwing his cowboy hat into the ring.
The video begins with West reciting the lyrics to the Texas State Song, “Texas Our Texas,” and asks how Texans can uphold the declarations made in it for future generations of Texans. To be sure, he gives the answers to those questions such as securing the border, tackling the sex trade issue, and resistance to the “Green New Deal” and the embrace of energy independence.
Anticipating the criticism that West’s background as a Georgia-born citizen who attended University in Tennesee, West looked back into the past where he pointed out that Georgia and Tennessee have a very close relationship with Texas, and that many prominent Texas figures hailed from those states.
While West has previously served in Florida as a congressman, he says that he’s now ready to serve again in order to protect Texas from the problems that now befall it.
“I have not been in elective political office for about a decade. But I can no longer sit on the sidelines and see what has happened in these United States of America, what is happening in the place that I call home,” West said.
West did not call out Abbott in his video directly but that doesn’t mean he’s without his criticisms of Abbott and openly spoke out against Abbott’s mask mandate during the pandemic.
Regardless, the question boils down to whether or not West has a chance against Abbott. The name recognition is going to assist him greatly during the campaign, but despite West’s popularity among conservatives as a general rule, Texans still view Abbott favorably, making this an uphill climb for West.
According to the Texas Tribune, Abbott’s support among Republicans is strong at 77 percent with 43 percent of Republicans stating they “strongly approve” of his performance. The governor has also spent some time regaining momentum after the pandemic response tripped up his popularity.
His tackling of the border issue has shown him in a position of strength and determination and bringing Donald Trump to the border and sitting next to him while they spoke about it were strokes of pure political genius as it painted Abbott as a Trump conservative, a highly popular thing to be right now. On top of that, Abbott has passed a constitutional carry law, effectively making it legal to carry a handgun in Texas without a license.
It’s likely that Abbott will continue to hammer home the power of the Republican party in Texas, further putting himself in a much better light to voters and keeping West on the backfoot. How West will compensate for this is anyone’s guess and time will tell if West has the political know-how to overcome the odds.

Canadian representative handed out PA map erasing Israel, but Canadian FM warns Israel not to be “provocative”

During his recent meetings with Israeli officials, Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau warned Israel that “continued building of settlements” is “provocative.” [The Jerusalem Post, July 6, 2021] However, the actions of a Canadian representative earlier in the year was more than provocative – it was a severe breach of Israel – Canadian friendship.
At a ceremony honoring female Palestinian entrepreneurs hosted by the PA Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Head of Cooperation at the Representative Office of Canada in the PA, Jason Tulk, together with PA Minister of Women’s Affairs Dr. Amal Hamad handed out an honorary plaque in the shape of the PA map of “Palestine” which entirely erases the State of Israel:
The use of this PA map replacing Israel with “Palestine” has been condemned by the international community. Former US President Barak Obama called it a security threat to Israel alongside terror:
“As President I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security... Not when there are terrorist groups and political leaders committed to Israel's destruction. Not when there are maps across the Middle East that don't even acknowledge Israel's existence.”

Agreeing to hand out this particular map, which Palestinian Media Watch has exposed is used by the PA in all frameworks - from schoolbooks, to official logos, and cartoons in the official PA daily and more - the Canadian representative implicitly legitimized the PA vision of a world with only “Palestine,” and the destruction of the State of Israel.
As PMW has exposed, the PA and Fatah untiringly promote the ideology of “liberation” of “Palestine from the Sea to the River.” It is disappointing to see a Canadian government representative actively use such a symbol.

The article included a picture from the event showing Director of Cooperation in the Canadian Representative Office Jason Tulk on the left and PA Minister of Women’s Affairs Amal Hamad on the right awarding a woman with an honorary plaque, which features the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel together with the PA areas as “Palestine.”

“Israel could reignite Palestinian violence if it persists with settlement building and evictions of east Jerusalem Arabs, Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau told reporters Monday as he wrapped up his trip to the region.
“We need to lower the temperature,” Garneau said, adding that “we still have a fragile ceasefire,” referring to May’s 11-day Gaza war.
“From Canada’s perspective, it was important as a friend to Israel that we get the message across that the continued building of settlements and the evictions and demolitions in east Jerusalem should cease,” he said.
“That is potentially provocative at a time when we want to lower the temperature and not provide any excuse for it to flare up again,” he added.
Garneau said he underscored this message in his meeting with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other Israeli officials.
The Prime Minister’s Office did not issue a statement or photo of the meeting, and Bennett did not tweet about it, although he publicized his phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The trip marked Garneau’s fifth visit to Israel and his first since he took office in January. He is also the first foreign minister to arrive in the country since the government was sworn in last month.”

Senator Bennet,
I thought that I had totally given up in writing to you; it being like pouring water on a duck’s back. Being a logical, analytical observer of the idiocy that we see in the decisions of our current mind numbing spend, spend administration; and the weak lemming like following of the majority of Democrat lawmakers, I just can’t quit. As an 85 year old patriot, I have to keep trying. My patience is thin. Time is short. Our once great country is in peril. Weakness and a focus on the trivia will cause the end!
I want to start by asking why you don’t show the courtesy to (1) answer my letters and (2} reply to my questions. Previously I have asked:
1. How can you characterize last summer’s riots, killing and burning in Portland and Minneapolis, among others, as peaceful demonstrations, and but then have a total breakdown when a few people, unhappy with the election process, invade the capitol?
2. The mayor of Washington DC allows a street to be cluttered up with Black Lives Matter; but will not allow All Lives Matter. Isn’t that discrimination in reverse?
3. When I, as a life-long Patriot, serving my country for thirty years in the military, write you a heart-felt letter, you choose to not even answer. Why? I deserve better!
4. Do you have any conscience about the effect of dumping massive debt on our future generations? Do you think that we can spend ourselves into greatness?
5. Have you ever studied the 80 year downfall of Venezuela and realized that we are on the same path?
You seem overly infatuated with diversity. I heard it best on Fox News’ Tucker program. The lady said, “You can have diversity or meritocracy, but you can’t have them both! Embracing diversity quickly degenerates into defining groups by mathematical percentages. I wonder how you will react when you need an airline pilot or a surgeon knowing that you didn’t get the best, only the best in some sub-category? How about pro football and basketball? That will be interesting to see when diversity is implemented. Got to have some little book worms on the team!
I read your news letters and see no comment about the travesty occurring on our southern border. Can’t blame you there. If I were a Democrat, I wouldn’t want to talk about it either. Trump had it nearly solved and then Biden immediately broke it. Before you give me the Democratic party line about compassion, let me say that I know we are a nation of immigrates. But we are not a nation of unlimited illegal immigrates! Nor should we be! Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says that the border is closed. Now, that statement is an absolute lie. Reminds me of something in our recent past: “If you like your Doctor, you can keep him.”
How about Biden cancelling the pipeline? We barely became a nation of self sufficiency in oil production and could have been exporting liquified natural gas to Germany. Unfortunately, we gave the opportunity away to the Russians! We have a large number of pipelines and the effect on the environment of one more would not even be measurable. Cancelling the pipeline looks like it was done just to spite Trump.
I just finished reading a very interesting book written by a USAFA graduate. Until recently he was a Commander up at Buckley. Then he was fired! His crime? Writing the truth about how our military is being indoctrinating in pure Marxist ideology. Our troops being force fed on critical race theory which is creating descension between different ethnic groups; unfortunately, with a heavy emphasis on words such as inclusiveness and diversity. Sound familiar? I fear that the military, just as is our nation, is in a downward spiral! The military is not a place for social engineering. Do you care? The emphasis should be on “to fight and to win.”
Your newsletter seems most excited when you have found a way to give away more taxpayer money to childcare. You can be sure more will be needed next year What ever government rewards, you get more of. Quit training people that if you whine enough, the government will make it free. You should talk initiative and hard work, be positive about law and order! Explain that if you don’t get in a confrontation with the police, you will likely live longer. That may not get you re-elected, but it would be a service to the country in the long run. I see a Venezuela just over the hill. And God forbid: Someone just might do a micro aggression!
