THE TURNING POINT FOR ME WAS READING ANDY MCCARTHY’S REMARKABLE BOOK BALL OF COLLUSION. PUBLISHED IN 2019, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REQUIRED READING FOR EVERY AMERICAN BEFORE THE 2020 ELECTION. MCCARTHY IS A SOLID PROFESSIONAL PROSECUTOR WITH ALMOST TWO DECADES OF EXPERIENCE IN THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT. HE WAS THE LEAD PROSECUTOR IN THE TRIALS OF THE 1993 WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMBING TERRORISTS.
HE USED HIS PROSECUTORIAL SKILLS TO TAKE APART THE ENTIRE EFFORT TO TIE CANDIDATE- AND THEN-PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP TO RUSSIA. THE RUSSIAN HOAX WAS A DELIBERATE LIE FUNDED BY THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN AND SEIZED UPON BY THE FBI AND THE CIA. IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SYSTEM IN POWER TO DEFEAT A CANDIDATE IT DIDN’T LIKE. AFTER THE LIE FAILED TO DEFEAT TRUMP AS A CANDIDATE, IT WAS USED TO HAMSTRING HIS PRESIDENCY.
BALL OF COLLUSION WAS A STUNNING REVELATION TO ME. I KNEW A LOT ABOUT THE GENERAL STORY — AND HAD LIVED THROUGH IT — BUT I HAD NEVER CONNECTED THE DOTS IN SUCH A METHODICAL WAY. MCCARTHY’S RESEARCH CONVINCED HIM THAT THE CONSPIRACY TO DESTROY TRUMP INVOLVED MUCH MORE OF THE GOVERNMENT THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT POSSIBLE. IT WAS LIKE LOOKING THROUGH A KALEIDOSCOPE THAT SUDDENLY CAME INTO FOCUS.
BALL OF COLLUSION OPENED A WHOLE NEW LINE OF THINKING FOR ME. SUDDENLY, MANY OF THE THINGS I HAVE LIVED THROUGH IN AMERICAN POLITICS STARTED TO FIT THE PATTERN OF CORRUPTION AND COERCION — CLINTON’S CATTLE FUTURES WINDFALL, LOIS LERNER’S WEAPONIZATION OF THE IRS (ON THE ADVICE OF FEDERAL PROSECUTOR JACK SMITH), AND THE FLAGRANT CORRUPTION OF THE CLINTON FOUNDATION.
SOME POLICY DECISIONS MADE BY THEN–SECRETARY OF STATE CLINTON — INCLUDING PERMITTING THE SALE OF 20 PERCENT OF AMERICA’S URANIUM TO A RUSSIAN COMPANY THAT GAVE THE CLINTON FOUNDATION A $2.3 MILLION GIFT — MADE SENSE IN THIS PATTERN. I THEN THOUGHT ABOUT SMITH’S LEGAL ATTACK ON VIRGINIA GOV. BOB MCDONNELL (WHICH WAS UNANIMOUSLY OVERTURNED BY THE SUPREME COURT BECAUSE SMITH LIED TO THE JURY ABOUT THE LAW). UNSURPRISINGLY, THIS IS THE SAME SMITH THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PICKED TO ATTACK TRUMP AHEAD OF THE 2024 ELECTION. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
IMPORTANTLY, MCCARTHY FOCUSED ON A JAN. 5, 2017, MEETING IN WHICH THEN-PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA PERSONALLY COORDINATED THE JOINT FBI–CIA EFFORT TO CRIPPLE AND DERAIL THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION. IT BECAME CLEAR TO ME THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE SMOKING GUN OF GUILT. THE INCUMBENT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OPENLY COORDINATED THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES IN A DELIBERATE, METHODICAL EFFORT TO HINDER THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS AN ACT VERGING ON TREASON. ONCE I UNDERSTOOD THAT OBAMA WAS CAPABLE OF THIS LEVEL OF VICIOUSNESS AND DISHONESTY, A LOT OF OTHER THINGS BEGAN TO FALL IN PLACE.
THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S TREATMENT OF THE BENGHAZI ATTACK THAT KILLED AN AMERICAN AMBASSADOR WAS ONE EXAMPLE. SUSAN RICE APPEARED ON FIVE NATIONAL NEWS SHOWS THE SUNDAY AFTER THE ATTACK TO REPEAT A NARRATIVE THAT WAS COMPLETELY FALSE AND MISLEADING. AFTER ALL, SEPT. 11, 2012, WAS CLOSE TO THE ELECTION. HE ALSO UNDERSTOOD FROM WATCHING CLINTON AND OTHERS THAT YOU COULD BE CORRUPT — THE OBAMA-POLITICIZED JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WOULD NEVER BOTHER YOU. HE SAW HIS CHANCE, AND HE TOOK IT.
THE BIDEN INVESTIGATION WILL INEVITABLY GROW UNTIL ALL THE HORRORS OF THE CORRUPTION, GOVERNMENT WEAPONIZATION, AND DESTRUCTION OF THE RULE OF LAW BECOME KNOWN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

The book is being used in public schools all over the country. It has become a symbol for the leftist attempt to sexualize kids. Parents from all political backgrounds have taken to the streets in an effort to assert their rights and demand that pornographic material be removed from classrooms.
Unbelievably, Democrats are now doubling down on their claims that Republicans have passed laws to prevent school libraries from stocking any sexual content. Illinois and other states have passed laws that prohibit the removal of pornographic material from libraries and classrooms.

CLAIRTON, Pennsylvania — The first steel plant located here along the Monongahela River just over 20 miles south of Pittsburgh was built in 1901. By 1903, the borough of Clairton formed around the industry, and by 1904, U.S. Steel acquired the plant from St. Clair Steel, and the industrial base of America began its reign here in Western Pennsylvania.
U.S. Steel had been founded in 1901 by Andrew Carnegie, Charles Schwab, Elbert Gary, and J.P. Morgan, and when it launched that year, it was the largest business enterprise of its time, and by the end of its first year, the company supplied nearly 70% of all the steel produced in the country.
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, where Carnegie made his mark in the industry after the Civil War, Clairton and dozens of other small river towns, such as Braddock, Pennsylvania, grew and expanded and became thriving cities thanks to U.S. Steel, with dozens of churches, business districts, schools, and fraternal clubs all popping up to serve the workers who settled around the plants.
The industry boomed for the next 40 years, throughout World War II, and in the growth years after the war, when the GIs came home and moved out of the cities and into the cutest little bedroom communities in the suburbs. Those communities' roads and bridges were built by the men and women in the steel industry they often worked in.
Despite the slow decline steel was experiencing in the early 1960s, U.S. Steel broke ground for its own building in the city of Pittsburgh — originally designed to be the tallest building in the country, eclipsing both the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Empire State Building. Its outer structure, which looks like a rusty nail, was immediately iconic, and the "US STEEL" moniker on the top floor served as a proud advertisement for the steel industry, which had its center in Pittsburgh.
It continues to be the tallest building in Appalachia — except that the name on the top now reads UPMC, which earned its name at the top of the building in March 2008 when it made the U.S. Steel Tower its corporate headquarters. The name change exemplified the decline of the industry that began on Black Monday in 1977, when the Campbell Works in Youngstown, Ohio, suddenly shut its doors.
By 1983, Pittsburgh’s unemployment rate hit a whopping 18.2% as rounds of layoffs among thousands of steelworkers became a reality and as domestic steel production (crippled by automation, trade, union strife, inattention to emerging technology, and poor corporate leadership) collapsed, along with all of the industries that supported it.
Those combined circumstances created a deadly domino effect that intensified as U.S. Steel entered joint ventures with foreign partners and non-steel corporations in order to continue a profitable bottom line.
Sixty years ago, U.S. Steel peaked in employment (340,000) and output (35.8 million tons of steel). In 2022, it employed 15,000 (3,000 in the Pittsburgh area) and shipped 11 million tons of steel.
Yet despite all of the job losses, along with the closed barber shops, machine shops, churches, and schools, causing the death of boroughs such as Clairton and Braddock, if you think U.S. Steel, you think Pittsburgh. Our football team was (and still is) called the Steelers, and we are known as the Steel City.
That imagery may once again be about to change as U.S. Steel contemplates a sale, which would be a jolt to this region. The company is taking proposals from multiple bidders, including Ohio steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs as well as a rumored bid from a steelmaker based in Europe.

Biden, Netanyahu to meet on sidelines of UN General Assembly
AN OVAL OFFICE MEETING WILL NOT TAKE PLACE DURING NETANYAHU'S US TRIP, FOLLOWING AN INTERNAL WHITE HOUSE DEBATE ON THE MATTER.
U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week, according to Axios.
It will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two men since Netanyahu returned to power nearly nine months ago.
Three U.S. officials confirmed to the news site that the two leaders will not meet at the White House and that an internal debate occurred in Biden’s political circle regarding whether they should meet at the Oval Office or at U.N. headquarters, with some supporting the White House meeting and others pushing for a meeting in New York.
Two of the officials said that last Tuesday U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Netanyahu and informed him that Biden’s schedule would not allow for an Oval Office meeting but that they could meet in New York.
One U.S. senior official said that many in the White House thought that an Oval Office meeting would damage Biden’s standing in the Democratic Party. A second U.S. official said that several of Biden’s aides were concerned about the possibility of thousands of Israeli and American Jews descending on the White House to protest the meeting. A third U.S. official said that some of Biden’s advisers argued that an Oval Office meeting would send the wrong message about the president’s views regarding the Netanyahu government’s judicial reform effort and policies.
Two Israeli officials told Axios that Netanyahu pressed Israeli Ambassador to Washington Michael Herzog to secure him a meeting at the White House. Israeli officials also pressed the White House for an Oval Office meeting ahead of the U.N. General Assembly, according to the Israeli officials.
Israeli and U.S. officials said that Sept. 22 was discussed as a potential Oval Office date. The White House did not comment for the story.
Netanyahu will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk told Hebrew media on Tuesday. It will be the first in-person exchange between the two leaders since Netanyahu became prime minister again at the end of December.
Netanyahu is scheduled to visit San Francisco next week ahead of his speech at the UNGA in New York, the Prime Minister’s Office announced on Sunday.
Netanyahu will depart Israel on the evening of Sept. 17 following the conclusion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and land in San Francisco the next day.
While in California, Netanyahu is expected to visit Silicon Valley for a tour of the tech industry, according to local reports. Netanyahu may also meet with X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk, according to Israel’s Channel 12.
The Israeli prime minister stressed to Musk during a telephone conversation in June the need for governments to understand both the opportunities and the dangers of artificial intelligence, and conveyed his view that the Jewish state could become a significant global player in the field.
After spending the day in Silicon Valley, the prime minister will travel to New York City, arriving there on Sept. 19.
In the Big Apple, Netanyahu is slated to address the U.N. General Assembly, with his speech likely to take place on Friday morning. Netanyahu will remain in New York over Saturday, flying back shortly before the start of Yom Kippur on the evening of Sept. 24.

How American Institutions Went From Trust to Bust
Leaders betrayed and disdained the people, and partisanship and social media didn’t help.

At the heart of America’s political and cultural turmoil is a crisis of trust. In the space of a generation, the people’s confidence in their leaders and their most important institutions to do the right thing has collapsed. The federal government, big business, the media, education, science and medicine, technology, religious institutions, law enforcement and others have seen a precipitous decline.
As public faith in the performance, credibility and integrity of these institutions has collapsed, so too has mutual trust—the social glue that holds the country together. Americans have become suspicious of one another, distrusting their fellow citizens as much as they distrust foreign adversaries.
Think about the controversies that have played out in the past few years—allegations from both parties of stolen elections, false claims by mendacious presidents and other politicians, politically motivated federal law-enforcement decisions, questionable advice and mandates from public-health officials, news coverage that skews in one political direction, a succession of corporate scandals and financial crises, and the various social dysfunctions caused by social media and emerging technologies.
All reflect and exacerbate a climate of deep popular distrust. This rapid loss of confidence is startling and unprecedented. It has ominous implications for the cohesion, prosperity and even survival of the U.S. Trust is the essential feature that allows society to function—more important the more modern and complex society grows.
Since 1979 Gallup has measured trust among the public in the most important American institutions—from the presidency and the Supreme Court to big business, science and the media. Its latest survey, published in July, found that across the nine key institutions Gallup has tracked consistently, the proportion of Americans who said they had “a great deal or quite a lot of confidence” averaged out at 26%. That is the lowest figure ever recorded.
“Confidence has generally trended downward since registering 48% in 1979 and holding near 45% in the 1980s,” the report finds. “It averaged closer to 40% in the 1990s and early 2000s before dropping to the low 30% range in the 2010s. Last year was the first time it fell below 30%.”
Of the 16 institutions Gallup has tracked over the past decade, 11 recorded their lowest-ever level of popular trust in 2022 or 2023. Only two institutions, the military and small business, enjoy the confidence of a majority of Americans.
The Pew Research Center has conducted similar surveys for 30 years. The General Social Survey is conducted by NORC—formerly the National Opinion Research Center—at the University of Chicago and the American National Election Studies at Michigan and Stanford. Both have found the same broad decline in trust.
Some institutions have forfeited more trust than others. In 1979 Gallup found that 51% of Americans had a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in newspapers. This year the number was 18%.
Perhaps more alarming is the decline in levels of trust Americans have toward each other. “Generally speaking,” the General Social Survey asks, “would you say that most people can be trusted or that you can’t be too careful in dealing with people?” The proportion of those saying people can be trusted has dropped from about half to less than a third in the past 50 years.
The first explanation for our trust deficit is an obvious one: the performance of the institutions themselves. In an important sense, the problem isn’t distrust but untrustworthiness. In the past 20 years institutions betrayed the people’s confidence in them with false promises and terrible outcomes:
• A trusted government told Americans in 2003 that an enemy had weapons of mass destruction and was poised to deploy them against the U.S., and that a war to disarm the country would be an easy task for the U.S. military, who would be greeted as liberators. The weapons were never found, and the grinding occupation claimed thousands of American lives.
• Trusted bankers and regulators told Americans in 2008 that the financial system was sound, that their money was safe. When that turned out to be false, ordinary Americans lost their jobs and homes while those who had caused the crisis were bailed out.
• Trusted technology companies told Americans the personal data they handed over was safe and that the new apps and platforms they were using were good for them and society. Americans have found for themselves the darker side of the digital revolution in its effects on mental health, personal privacy and security.
• Trusted big businesses told Americans that their pursuit of global markets would be good for the economy, create jobs and reduce prices. Then these businesses turned themselves into propagandists for woke ideology.
• Trusted administrations and lawmakers of both parties insisted they were controlling illegal immigration, even as the numbers streaming across the southern border grew year after year.
• Trusted news organizations and commentators told Americans that the winning candidate in the 2016 presidential election worked with the Russian government to secure his election, a claim that proved false.
• The incumbent president told his trusting supporters that the 2020 election was stolen.
