Market Commentary. Gaza. Jim Jordan Should Replace Ryan.

The markets are disturbed.  I did not believe Democrat's taking over The House was necessarily fully discounted but neither did I expect the severity of the reaction.  I suspect the hard nosed attitude among those who are assuming chairmanships of the more powerful committee's does not sit well with investors, nor should it.  Gridlock might be dismissed as generally favorable but efforts to bring down an improving economy is disturbing.

We know Europe is struggling, We know China is digging its's heels in and is not going to lift a finger to help Trump curb N Korea and N Korea is moving forward with their nuclear program.

If The Fed continues to raise rates that, in my opinion, is unwarranted at this time but when did The Fed ever land a plane smoothly?

The Holiday Season will be good but investors are looking beyond and fear the economy might sputter some time in 2019. That remains to be seen but certainly the sharp improvement in corporate earnings is over.  That does not mean another good earnings period, in the year ahead, is unwarranted or even discounted.

My suggestion of KO has worked but QCOM has been crushed by AAPL and IBM is still struggling while technology is taking a back seat to more stable previously under-performing traditional  consumer oriented  stocks. Woe is us for the time being as volatility increases.

Word from Gaza.

It is easy for me to say the time to destroy Gaza and Hamas is long past but unless Israel bloodies Hamas, rockets will continue to fall on innocent Israelis.

Perhaps one day rockets will be launched against America from radicals in Mexico and I doubt we will tolerate this but the world expects Israel to suck it up and watch their kindergartens, bakeries and vineyards be destroyed..

It is indeed sad that Hamas is an organization dedicated to hate and provocation and which  the world's "bleeders" feel compassion for and tolerate because they are not being attacked.

I am far more hawkish and far less tolerant of thugs.   (See 1 below.)

What we are witnessing is a puerile display by sour grape Democrats who only want to win and will do whatever it takes. The fact that they criticize Trump, who questions their tactics, is pure hypocrisy but discontent is part of their DNA.   Progressives seem to enjoy being miserable. They live in search of causes.   How sad,. Bless their hearts.

I hope when the Republicans convene and select their own minority leader they will go with Jim Jordan.  He is a scrapper.

Ryan was a policy wonk and though,  his views were sound he presided over an intellectually divided party and was never able to sell his thinking. Ryan was establishment and too intellectually patrician.

Israel vowed a tough response to rocket attacks from Gaza terror groups, which erupted after an IDF mission on Sunday evening resulted in the death of a senior Hamas commander and an Israeli intelligence officer.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
Monday evening capped off a day of intense rocket attacks mounted by Palestinian terror groups operating in the Gaza Strip.
The IDF reported that over 200 rockets had been fired from the coastal enclave, injuring at least 16 people, including a 19-year-old soldier who remained in critical condition.
One mortar exploded as it hit a bus, just moments after dozens of soldiers had exited it.
Gaza’s Hamas rulers and the smaller Islamic Jihad group both took credit for the rocket barrage, which rained down on Israel’s south on Monday.
Israel’s military said it was prepared to step up its efforts against terrorists in the Gaza Strip if rocket fire continues, and by early Monday evening the IDF hit terrorist positions in the strip in around 30 strikes.
Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a military spokesman, said Monday that Israel has boosted forces near the Gaza border with additional infantry troops, defensive systems and intelligence units.
Conricus told reporters that the army has so far struck more than 30 targets belonging to the Palestinian terror groups, warning that Hamas is “bringing destruction upon the Gaza Strip.”
Earlier in the day, Palestinian health officials claimed Israeli airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip killed two people and wounded another three.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was slated to meet with his military chief and defense minister late Monday.
