Discussing Previous 1a Posting.

The tax bill will pass and for those who benefit the simplification will be good for now but possibly a trap down the road.  Why?  Because after eliminating deductions and getting an increase in your withholding those we send to Congress, who cannot cut sending, will raise your taxes, as they always do.  Be careful for what you wish for when it comes to politicians.

You should know that by now.

In response to my previous memo that I deemed an essential rwad this froma friendd and fellow memo reader:

"Dick,

Fonte’s essay (1a in your blog) is fascinating if for no other reason than he makes sense. And your sense that it is the best blog you’ve included in your writings is also correct, in my view. It is a must read by all who consider themselves “conservative.” Pursuant to his last remark, my guess is that he has chosen the DVH mode.

My only two comments having read the essay twice now are;

1.       About ¾-ths of the way through the essay he makes the statement,  “Levin, of course, is right to emphasize the centrality of winning the young for the revival and renewal of the American way of life. This would make sense if the young, about whom he speaks, had been educated in what the American way of life is, how did it come to be recognized widely as such, what are its values and where did they come from, etc., etc. Unfortunately, for at least two generations, they have had neither the education in, nor shown political examples of, the concepts of the Founding Fathers. Indeed, for practical  purposes all they have known is what the progressive left has given them in the way of education and role models. Not fertile soil for the undertaking envisioned by Levin, I’m afraid.

2.      I’m still trying to discern Trump‘s role, if any, in all this. Is he a), merely a passive player who happened to inadvertently come along at just this time in our history but with no real background in conservative thought or how to get it back into the public discourse, or b), is he a consciously, carefully selected “Manchurian candidate” with a known, well defined mission and strategy to return conservatism to its rightful place in our civil society? Is he the King or the pawn in this game? Have you a thought? E-"

My response: "I am posting without direct attribution what you wrote.  I believe Trump is a businessman who understands cost analysis, debt, leverage etc. so by nature is a risk taking conservative.  When it comes to politics I believe he does not have deep seated philosophical roots because he has never done enough reading but he is practical and therefore, conservate, within reason, it is natural for him.

Obama was the Manchurian Candidate. Trump happened to be on the scene at the right time but had no direct sponsorship or people in the wings helping and sponsoring.  Me"

Senators Sanders, Pocahontas and Gillebrand need to see this. If they did, the next question would be do they understand what it means? Then, could they embrace it?  Dick "(See 2 below.)

1)FBI & DOJ Have Gone Rogue to Protect Hillary

Republicans in the House cannot file Contempt of Congress charges against the Obama holdovers in the FBI and the Justice Department fast enough. FBI Director Christopher Wray and Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein refuse to hand over tdocuments related to the Clinton campaign’s use of paid foreign operatives to sway the outcome of the 2016 election. The Clinton campaign paid Fusion GPS to draft the fake Trump Russian dossier and disseminate it to the media (and John McCain) in order to smear candidate Donald Trump. This is no longer in dispute, so where are the documents?
Rosenstein and Wray refuse to honor subpoenas for documents from the House Intelligence Committee. Our constitutional republic cannot function if the Democrat Party is allowed to weaponize law enforcement agencies against opposition candidates and then refuse to allow any oversight.
Make no mistake about it: That is exactly what is happening at this point. The argument from the DOJ and the FBI is that portions of the investigation involve foreign intelligence and therefore, cannot be shared with Congress.
Many people do not realize, however, that under the system of checks and balances, Congress can see any document from the Executive branch that it requests, barring a few things that can fall under executive privilege. There is a select group of Members of Congress whose security clearances are so high that they are allowed access to any and all classified Executive branch documents (the DOJ and FBI are both Executive branch entities).
Known as the “Intelligence Gang of Eight” (not to be confused with the group of amnesty-pushing Senators from 2013), this group of Representatives and Senators has access to all of America’s foreign intelligence secrets and is regularly briefed on covert actions carried out by the Executive branch.
If a team of Navy SEALs plants a brick of C-4 in an African warlord’s outhouse, the Gang of Eight knows about it. No true oversight of Executive branch foreign policy actions or covert actions would be possible if this group did not exist.
The Gang of Eight consists of the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Committees on Intelligence, as well as the leaders and ranking members of the House and Senate. The current members are Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Reps. Devin Nunes (R-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee, and Sens. Richard Burr (R-NC) and Mark Warner (D-VA).
Some of those names may not inspire great confidence, but it should be understood that there is no Classified or Top Secret document or information which the Gang of Eight should not, technically have access to.
By denying the Intelligence Gang of Eight access to a foreign intelligence investigation that involves the Democrat Party, the FBI and the Department of Justice have gone rogue and are no longer under any semblance of authority. They are operating on their, without authorization.
Is there any doubt that President Trump or Attorney General Jeff Sessions would want Congress and the American people to see the documents that are being withheld? Especially since everyone knows how damning it would be to see the proof that the Clinton campaign paid for the “Russian collusion” narrative which has consumed the nation for the past year?
Contempt of Congress charges have been used more than a dozen times since the 1970s to compel the production of documents or testimony from uncooperative federal employees. The bureaucrat goes to jail for a year or until they cooperate and produce the documents or testimony, whichever comes first.
Two recent Obama administration officials, former Attorney General Eric Holder and former IRS bureaucrat Lois Lerner, were found in Contempt of Congress — Holder for refusal to turn over Fast and Furious documents and Lerner for refusing to testify under oath about the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. They both skated by without being prosecuted, however, because the swamp opted to protect its own members rather than police itself.
The Contempt charges being drafted by House Intel Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, however, will have teeth this time. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been returning the Justice Department to a Reagan-era style of law and order, and is unlikely to allow Rosenstein and Wray to escape jail time if they continue to shield Hillary Clinton from justice. That is, after all, what the entire fake Russian narrative is about at this point.

2)This explains why Socialism won't work, and always fails.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
