While driving the grandchildren to the airport I noticed a billboard depicting a couple looking at new homes with these emblazoned words: "Why Settle For Less?"

I thought about this message and concluded this simple question was somewhat emblematic of what has gotten us into the current financial mess. So I added these words to flesh out what I believe describes how liberals think: " ,when you can aspire to more you cannot afford so why not let government pay for it?"

Bernie Marcus is chairman of the board of The Marcus Foundation, which focuses on Jewish causes, children, medical research, free enterprise and the community. It is one of the largest foundations in the nation.

The Marcus Foundation made a $20 million gift to Grady Health System to improve emergency care to trauma and acute neurological injury victims throughout Georgia.

In conjunction with The Shepherd Center, renowned for treatment of brain and spinal injuries in Atlanta, Bernie announced the creation of Project Share, to ensure members of the military and veterans get diagnosed and cared for without financial constraint. The Marcus Foundation underwrites the housing, transportation and care costs of any military personnel with brain or spinal injuries sent to Shepherd.

As part of a public/private partnership with the State of Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology is building the $90 million, 30,000 sq ft Marcus Nanotechnology Building.  The structure will become one of the nation's largest clean room facilities and the first one designed to provide significant space for research that applies nano-science and nano-technology to the emerging field of biotechnology.

1)Just a Taste of a Second Obama Term

First, he came for the General Motors bondholders, but the religious leaders were not GM bondholders, so they did not speak up. Then he came for the oil companies, but they were not oil company executives, and again they did not speak up. Next, he came for control of the nation’s health care system, and again they saw no threat — in fact, many of them supported his plan.

We were told we had to pass the plan to could find out what was in it. Then he came for our freedom of religion, and we found out what was in it: pure, unadulterated tyranny.

In a stunning exercise of raw, unconstitutional power, Barack Obama now tells people of faith that their rights do not come from God, as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the First Amendment to the Constitution, but rather from him. The right to practice one’s religion is now codified in the so-called Affordable Care Act of 2010, otherwise known as Obamacare.

Last week, Obama announced that religious organizations would be required to include birth control and abortifacient devices and medications in the health care plans they provide for their employees. When it became clear that America’s Christian leaders would not stand for this, Obama is said to have “backed down.” In reality, he did no such thing.

What the president did was to call a press conference to announce his “compromise.” Rather than religious institutions being forced to provide these services directly, Obama decreed, their insurance companies would be compelled to do so — at no cost to the employee.

While making the rounds of the Sunday talk shows, White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew said, in essence, that insurance companies should be happy to give these services away “free” since it costs less not to have babies than it does to have them. As for the president, he clearly believes his power to dictate such things under Obamacare trumps the Constitution’s authority to stop him.

Do not believe for a minute that Barack Obama intends anything but a wholesale takeover of this nation’s health care system. He is on record as favoring a single-payer plan similar to what is in place in Canada and Great Britain.

The president is fully aware that Obamacare’s mandates are driving up the cost of private health insurance, thereby ultimately forcing all Americans into a one-size-fits-all government run plan. Obama also knows that many religious organizations are self-insuring. That means that the costs associated with health care for their employees come directly out of the pockets of the church itself.

There may be a difference of opinion between Catholic doctrine and the teachings of most evangelical churches on the issue of birth control, but these denominations are in lockstep on the issue of refusing to pay for abortion-inducing drugs. Some of their leaders have sworn to go to prison rather than violate this principle.

Obama is a master divider, and I believe that once he has convinced a majority of American women that contraception is a “right” that should be free, he can then divide people of faith against one other and against their own church leaders. He also believes that persuading a few liberal Catholic groups to support his "compromise" ends the discussion. Someone compared this to forcing all Jews to eat pork chops just because some of them don't keep kosher.

It is long past time that Christian leaders stood up in their pulpits and declared that a vote for Barack Obama is a vote against God. Just imagine if every Bible believing minister in America made that announcement to their congregations the Sunday before the election. Then, try to imagine what a second Obama term might look like.

2) THE STATE OF THE STATES

At times, it’s heartbreaking to find that some states are as inept as the federal government. Of course, living, as I do, in California, I’m in no position to throw stones. However, when I found that it took Iowa weeks to finally add up a mere 200,000 caucus votes and still not know the actual election results, I wondered once again why Iowa is allowed to be the kickoff state in presidential elections. I may have missed it, but I don’t recall seeing it mentioned in the Constitution that Iowa and New Hampshire were endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them were life, liberty and dibs on hogging the nation’s attention every four years.

On the flip side, we have had Arizona, Alabama and South Carolina, drawing the ire of Eric Holder by doing their best to rid America of illegal aliens. We also have several states waging the good fight against Obama and the Justice Department by insisting that voters have to provide photo IDs for something even more important than buying cigarettes and beer.

We should never lose sight of the fact that Ronald Reagan once said, “The federal government is not the solution; it’s the problem.” That is especially the case when it’s in the hands of socialist nincompoops who look at what’s happening to the nations of Europe and, with a straight face, say, “We should be more like them. Forget the glories of ancient Greece; it’s modern Greece we should be emulating!”

Although we keep hearing about the importance of a college education, particularly an Ivy League college education, what is one to make of people like Obama and cabinet members Hillary Clinton, Tim Geithner, John Bryson, Shaun Donovan, Arne Duncan and Eric Holder, all of whom got their degrees from Harvard and Yale? Let’s face it -- if a manufacturing company turned out such shoddy products, you would assume that the only reason they weren’t out of business is because Obama was shoveling billions of tax dollars their way to keep them on life support.

Speaking of Obama, why aren’t the labor unions who have seen Obama cancel the Keystone XL pipeline, depriving them of at least 20,000 jobs, raising a stink about it? You know for a fact that if it had been a Republican president who had caved in to the environmental fascists, killing jobs and forcing Canada to send the oil to China instead of Texas, they’d be marching on the White House with torches and pitchforks. But I suppose it’s a pipe dream to expect a union to turn on the arrogant ignoramus who handed GM over to the UAW.

I had assumed, as had most people, that the murder of 14 people and the wounding of 29 others by Major Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood was the result of Islamic jihadism. The only reason that Hasan, whose business cards read “Soldier of Allah,” had not been sent to the stockade or an asylum was because his military superiors were afraid of being labeled religious bigots. What I had not known until learning of it from David Horowitz, is that Barack Obama said the 43 were victims of…(a drumroll, please)…work place violence.

In other words, it had nothing to do with Islam. According to the golfer-in-chief, those 43 Americans were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, just like those folks who get shot up when a disgruntled postal employee flips out. It makes it kind of hard not to sympathize with Hasan’s superiors when their own superior is so easily cowed by Muslims.

In a way, Obama is the inevitable end result of a half century of left-wing indoctrination in American schools, media and pop culture. For decades, we have raised kids with the idea that they’re entitled to have high self-esteem even if they’ve done nothing to earn it. They’re told that grades aren’t important and that nobody should keep score at athletic events because it’s the participation that matters, not whether one wins or loses. These loons insist they want equal playing fields, but what they really want are equal results. Nobody is supposed to be better, richer, smarter or stronger, than anyone else, because, if they are, it means that they must have cheated or their parents cheated. It can’t be the result of brains or genes, initiative or even luck.

Thomas Sowell, in a recent article, pointed out that all over the world some groups have always exceled financially and intellectually. He listed the Ibos in Nigeria, the Parsees in India, the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, the Germans in Brazil, the Chinese in Malaysia, the Lebanese in West Africa, the Tamils in Sri Lanka. Although he didn’t mention it, I’ll add the Jews in many places. That’s just the way it is. That’s not to say that individuals in other groups can’t rise to the top, especially in America.

The odd thing is that while nobody would ever think to suggest that height and brawn are equally distributed, liberals somehow think that brains and ambition should be. And if they’re not, the federal government should somehow compensate for the grave injustice.

The fact of the matter is that every liberal is at heart a Utopian. They believe that if enough laws and regulations are passed, human equality is attainable. As goofy as that sounds, it’s easily explained. Liberals, you see, are morons. That’s why they continue to believe, for instance, that socialism is so much better than capitalism.

Their philosophy is all theory and no reality. To socialists, all human beings have equal potential, but that’s because they don’t stop to consider what actual human beings, as opposed to slices on a bureaucratic pie chart, are actually like.

As a result, human nature -- at least those parts of it that involve sloth, lust, stupidity and greed -- is the thing that Utopians never take into consideration.

3)Obama’s Refusal to Condemn/Penalize Abbas’ PA/Hamas Alliance Fits Pattern of Non-Responses to PA Pro-Terror, Anti-Peace Acts

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), which criticized the Obama
Administration this week for its refusal to condemn or penalize Mahmoud
Abbas’ Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority (PA) for its alliance with the
terrorist organization Hamas, has pointed to a troubling, long-term pattern
of the Obama Administration refusing to condemn PA pro-terror, anti-peace
acts.

March 2011: Five members of the Fogel family, including three children, were
murdered in their beds, their throats slit. The very next day, members of
Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas’ own Fatah party
conducted a grotesque and obscene ceremony naming a square near Ramallah in
honor of Fatah Jew-killer, Dalal Mughrabi. Pleas by major American Jewish
leaders, including the ZOA’s Mort Klein, urging President Obama and
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to condemn the Fatah honoring of Mughrabi
were fruitless. Only four days later did a minor State Department official,
the acting deputy spokesman, Mark Toner, condemned the commemoration and
urged PA officials to “address it” – but didn’t condemn Abbas or his ruling
Fatah party, under whose auspices this ceremony occurred. (Shockingly, Mr.
Toner added that “all parties have an obligation to end any form of
incitement” – falsely implying that similar incitement comes from the
Israeli side as well).

March 2010: When the PA named another square in honor of the terrorist
Mughrabi, the Obama Administration said nothing for days before Secretary
Clinton falsely claimed that a Hamas-controlled municipality was behind the
naming.

January 2010: When terrorists from Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a
recognized terrorist group, murdered an Israeli, Rabbi Meir Chai, in a
drive-by shooting, the PA did not condemn the murder but did condemn the
subsequent killing of the terrorists by Israel. Abbas himself sent
condolences to the families of the three terrorists; PA prime minister Salam
Fayyad visited the terrorists' families; and Mahmoud Al-Aloul, member of the
Fatah Central Committee, also praised the dead terrorists as heroes. But the
Obama Administration said nothing, even when specifically informed of these
events by the Israeli government.

November 2009: When pressed by former Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) to
investigate the extremist, pro-terror Fatah platform adopted at its August
2009 Bethlehem conference, the Obama Administration pretended that Fatah had
done nothing of the kind. Secretary Clinton said falsely in her response to
Sen. Specter that the Conference had shown “a broad consensus supporting
President Abbas, negotiations with Israel, and the two-state solution.”
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, “President Obama’s refusal to
condemn and penalize Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority
(PA) for its alliance with the terrorist organization Hamas is simply the
latest in a deeply troubling pattern of Obama Administration indulgence and
neglect of PA pro-terror, anti-peace acts.

“The ZOA is deeply concerned that a horrible message is being sent to Arabs
in general and Palestinians in particular that the United States doesn’t
care about the PA’s alliance with genocidal terrorists, or incitement to
hatred and murder and glorification of Jew-murderers. The message is that
there will be no consequences for these vile acts.

“Not only is this in itself direct and troubling evidence of bias against
Israel, but we find that, in contrast, when Israel approved construction of
twenty apartments for Jews in eastern Jerusalem, both President Obama and
Secretary Clinton personally and forcefully condemned Israel. Had Israel
named a public square after a Jew who had murdered innocent Arabs, does
anyone imagine that they would have remained silent? Of course not. Both
President Obama and Secretary Clinton have repeatedly condemned and
criticized Israeli actions with which they disagree.

“This deafening silence tells us that the Obama Administration does not
regard Palestinian anti-peace, pro-terror acts as being important. The
Congress, American Jewish and pro-Israel organizations should start
demanding to know why this is the case. This question demands an answer.”


3a)Does Israel Have to Defend the West?

The grotesque foreign policy of the Obama administration has now achieved its pinnacle of battiness. After three and a half years of bowing low to Dark Ages tyrants and shafting our democratic friends, with Iranian nukes well on the way -- so close that even the CIA is willing to see the obvious -- the Deep Thinkers of Foggy Bottom are now worried sick that Israel might attack Iran.

Let's see. Israel has 7 million people who yearn for peace, because their lives are reasonably good, other than having to live with blood-thirsty maniacs surrounding the country with an estimated 100,000 missiles of various sizes. Iran has 70 million people who have been brainwashed by the ugly regime of medieval throwbacks to chant Death to America! Death to Israel! every single day. These nice people will soon have nukes, thanks to the suicidal policies of Democrats from Jimmy to Barry. Got it so far?

OK. Seven against seventy million is fair odds by Middle East standards.

Now, the Iranian regime is a particularly nasty variety of Shi'ite Islam, which glorifies martyrdom. Its founder, Ayatollah Khomeini, engaged in a war with Saddam Hussein in which a million people died. On the Iranian side it featured martyrdom charges, such as sending thousands of young boys into Saddam's minefields on motorbikes to clear the way for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops. The kids were given green plastic "keys to paradise" to wear around their necks, to get the 72 virgins and all. Crazy enough for you? Well, Jimmy just said he didn't think Iranian nukes were going to be a problem.

OK. The Saudis are Sunni Arabs, and the Tyrants of Tehran are Shiite Persians. Bad stuff, because Sunnis and Shiites have a blood feud going on that goes back a thousand years. All about the 8-year old Hidden Mahdi, who is believed to reside in a deep well, ready to emerge as soon as Ahmadinejad manages to blow up enough people.

So the Gulf Arabs want to stop Iranian nukes.

The Europeans also want to stop Iranian nukes -- at least those Europeans who don't believe they have achieved peace and love forever via the European Union. If you look at the map you can see why. Greece and Eastern Europe are well within range of Iranian ballistic missiles right now.
The Russians are faking bad, but they can't be happy with an Iranian nuclear martyrdom cult an hour away from southern Russia.

The Americans (us) have tens of thousands of troops and naval assets in the region, which also makes us vulnerable to nuclear-armed missiles from the Imam Ali the Martyr Memorial Missile Base. (Yes, there is an Imam Ali Missile Base).

The Turks live right next door to Iran, and are both ethnically and religiously different from them. They are not thrilled with martyrdom nukes next door. On the other side of Iran is Afghanistan and Pakistan, and no, they are not tickled about Iranian nukes either.

In another five years or so the Iranians will have true ICBMs, because once you can launch a satellite into space, all you have to do is point it sideways to make it go into orbit long enough to get to our part of the world.

So let's look at the lineup.

In favor of Iranian nukes: The torture regime in Tehran.

Scared of Iranian nukes: All the Sunni Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, Egypt, Jordan, etc.

Israel, which hears blood-thirsty filth from Tehran every single day, and which has learned to shrug its collective shoulders about the bad language. And prepare their own defenses.
Europe, with its 300 million technologically advanced people.
Russia, which is right next door.

America -- if we had a grain of sense, and Jimmy Carter wasn't going around spreading disinformation to sucker the liberals.

That would pit the minority of Iranian tyrants against most of the civilized world, such as it is.
What's the Obama solution?

a. Don't do anything to annoy the Iranians. Above all, don't defend the hundreds of thousands of young people who staged a Green Revolution against the sadistic thugs of the regime, and who were attacked, isolated, tortured and killed in response. The United States watched and said nothing.

b. Offer the thugocracy all the goodies in the world if they would only stop. But these are fanatical thugs, today's versions of the suicide battalions of Japan and Hitler. Martyrdom cults are found throughout history. This one is different because of the nukes.

c. Blame Israel for stirring up trouble any time you can. This is historically, culturally, politically, and morally ignorant, but then this is the Obama Administration.

d. Split the Jewish vote using Stalinesque front groups like "J Street" to echo the worst kind of anti-Israel propaganda.

e. Do likewise with Christian supporters of Israel, and a lot of people who just favor real democracies rather than the phony kind that were supposed to emerge from the Arab Spring -- which has killed tens of thousands of people.

f. Above all, take no action against the bloody minded thugs who wield the whip over Iran, because they might get upset.

OK, American foreign policy in the Age of Hope and Change. It's no different than pulling troops out of Iraq after winning the war there, or negotiating with the Taliban in order to bug out of Afghanistan. Who will instantly impose Shari'a law on all the women, men and children, to resounding cheers from liberals all over the world. And if you think Japan, South Korea and Taiwan aren't watching, think again.

Obama's weakness, fecklessness, and amateurism is therefore giving big incentives to all of our former allies to get nukes of their own, 'cause they can't trust Uncle Sam to protect them. The Saudis have said so out loud, and the Taiwanese are thinking it so hard you can hear the vibes.
Just Obama bringing peace and love on earth. Again. Just like Jimmy Carter, but on a much, much bigger scale. Jimmy just enabled the first radical Muslim throwback regime in the world, casting an entire nation of productive, intelligent, and modernizing people into the Dark Ages. Obama is doing it with as much of the Arab world as he can, in the guise of the "Arab Spring." Jimmy just betrayed 70 million people. Barack has betrayed hundreds of millions.

The only thing that worries the mad hats in DC is whether Israel will try to stop Iranian nukes. To stop that from happening, Leon Panetta just publicly exposed what he believes to be Israel's intention to knock out Iranian nuke factories before they can bury them in their mountains. If Israel does attack, Panetta's blabbermouth will kill people who would not have died otherwise. But this Administration leaks from the top, so you can bet the Iranians will get plenty of secret information before they hear the bombs dropping.

The Iranians are not waiting to be hit. They already control thousands of short and long-range missiles surrounding Israel in Lebanon (Hezb'allah) and Syria. They just tried to kill Israeli diplomats in three different countries. They have previously attacked a Jewish synagogue in Argentina, and their war doctrine (called Islam) allows them to kill civilians for the sake of Allah.

A sane Administration would have stopped Iranian nukes before the Middle East fell apart. That's called "preemption," and nobody dares to utter those syllables these days, because George Bush did that in the evil old days. Now we just use plenty of targeted assassinations, and we outsource our torture to other countries, using "renditions." Renditions are legal, because we just send the bad guys for their unapologetic torture sessions to places like Yemen and Egypt, to be processed according to their own cultural norms.

But then a sane Administration would not be waiting for the very last minute, and then blaming the most obvious victim.
