Having served on The Board of Visitors of St John's College I am priveleged to be able to participate in frequent college updates by the two presidents. For those who may not know, St John's is the third oldest college in America, it's curriculum is devoted to "The Great Books" and therefore is academically unique.
The school has two campuses - the original in Annapolis, Maryland and the second in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since the education is synonymous "Johnnies" can transfer during their academic time. The tuition is far more modest than most colleges and the seminar classes run about 16 students. The goal of St John's is to graduate students capable of reasoning. This commodity is still in demand and the shift in our student body has made the transition to technology without missing a beat. Teaching, law and medicine still predominate but technology jobs are attracting more students even though St John's does not have any courses related to computers and computer software.
In the words of the Annapolis President, Pano Kanelos : "...perhaps the most important faculty we develop—is that of self-knowledge. We are charged to know ourselves, or at least attempt to come to know ourselves..."
The pandemic put great strain on St John's as with all higher education but we have come through it in decent shape economically. Our enrollment applications are up and our graduate division is breaking student records.
It takes a very unique student to want to go to St John's and the student body is basically one of self-selection. I did not attend St John's but I probably would have enjoyed 4 years there had I known about the school when I applied to Penn (Wharton.)
I hope some of my own grandchildren and great grandchildren will consider St John's when their time for college comes around because America's needs more citizens who can reason and who appreciate what it takes to become a well rounded human.
The trend in higher education is frightening and I no longer have much respect for the "Ivies." They have gone the way of all flesh.

Our impaired/diminished president sees no border crisis, learned a lot in a briefing but probably does not remember what it was.
As for Mexico being an equal, I am not sure that is a positive comment since Biden is busy undoing whatever Trump tried to do regarding making America First. Certainly in his first few months, Biden cannot claim, though he will, that he has made America first in much of anything. We were first in energy before he killed that fact. Schools remained closed but ever since Carter launched The Department of Education it has gone down hill as does generally everything government touches.
