Why we went to Birmingham recently.
+++
Thank you to those who attended last week’s celebration of the Beth El Civil Rights Experience’s official opening. It was a fantastic evening, and the perfect event to formally launch this project after years of development.

We hope that the “taste” you experienced on Thursday has inspired you to want to take our full, docent-led tour, which includes additional background on the Birmingham Jewish community, insights on the contemporary Alabama Jewish experience, and our full set of character suitcases to explore.

We have two ways to book!

1). We are running select open slots in November that are open to individuals or small groups at a discounted rate of $8/per adult.

Those slots are listed below, and you can sign up here: https://www.templebeth-el.net/form/cre-tour.

Sunday, November 12, 12-1 p.m.
Thursday, November 16, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 16, 6 -7 p.m.
Thursday, November 30, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

2). We are also open to groups by appointment. If you are interested in booking a group tour of the Beth El Civil Rights Experience, please fill out this intake form and we will contact you regarding scheduling and pricing (https://form.typeform.com/to/KYQezEHO).

Group tours are available for groups of ten or more during regular business hours (last tour begins at 4:30, M-F) and for groups of fifteen or more after hours (after 6 p.m M-TH, Sundays). We are not offering Shabbat tours currently, though guests are welcome to join us for Friday or Saturday services. Pricing can be viewed on our website.  We are committed to keeping this experience accessible and have scholarship funds available for groups with financial barriers.

I hope you will join us and share with others in your networks who may be interested in participating! I am always happy to answer questions.

Best,
Margaret Norman Director of Programming and Engagement

 Who Wants to Control Others?

From plastic straws to the thermostat in your own home, some people want to control every aspect of your life. America was founded to combat this dark side of human nature that seeks power over others, including what you're allowed to say, do, and even think. But liberty is a value, not an instinct. If we don’t continue to uphold our American ideal of freedom, we may end up losing it.
