How Biden subverts Israeli democracyThe administration backs the Israeli left’s campaign to thwart the will of Israeli voters.

There was no legal basis for the petition. But that didn’t bother the lawyers at MQG.
In its petition, MQG claimed that the terms of a plea deal Deri reached with the State Prosecution last year on tax reporting errors barred him from serving as a minister. Never mind that nothing in the plea deal stipulated anything of the sort or that 400,000 Israeli voters cast their ballots for Shas with the full expectation that Deri would serve as a senior minister.
Like MQG, the Supreme Court justices didn’t bother giving a legal basis for their decision to act on MQG’s petition and bar Deri from serving as a cabinet minister. The justices said Deri’s appointment was “unreasonable,” and with a stroke of a pen, the court retroactively disenfranchised Shas voters.
Building on its success, late last month MQG submitted a new petition asking the justices to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As in the case of Deri, MQG’s petition is based on a political rather than a legal argument. MQG argues that as a criminal defendant, Netanyahu is unfit to serve. The premier, MQG insists, is acting with a conflict of interest by overseeing judicial reforms while on trial. And as a result, the justices should declare him unfit and remove him from office.
Never mind that the justices have a conflict of interest since it is their powers the government’s proposed reforms would check. Never mind that in a bid to prevent politicized judges and prosecutors from overturning the will of the voters, the law explicitly permits prime ministers to serve not only while standing trial, but even if convicted. And never mind that the charges against Netanyahu have fallen apart in Jerusalem District Court.
MQG saw with the Deri ruling that the justices feel no inclination to respect either the law or the will of the voters when their personal interests are at stake. And indeed, last week, Justice Daphne Barak-Erez gave the attorney general and the government a month to explain why the court shouldn’t overturn the votes of 2.4 million Israelis who voted for Likud and its coalition partners to return Netanyahu to the Prime Minister’s Office.
In a withering response to Barak-Erez’s order, Justice Minister Yariv Levin described MQG as “a gang of lawyers who do not respect the outcome of the election, working to carry out a coup and remove the prime minister from office.”
Levin continued, “It’s not surprising that the partners in this effort are the same ones leading the opposition to judicial reform: the leftist group which refers to itself as the Movement for Quality Government, the attorney general and the Supreme Court. This effort to oust the prime minister in contravention of the law, while trampling on the democratic election, is no different from a coup that is carried out with tanks. The goal is the same. The outcome is the same.”
Lawfare, or the use of the language of law and the judicial process to achieve political, rather than legal, outcomes, isn’t the only aspect of the left’s current campaign to overturn the election results where MQG is leading the charge. The movement is also the primary organizer and sponsor of the mass protests against judicial reform. The speakers at the rallies stand under the MQG banner when they call for insurgency, civil war and violence.
Since the media, as full partners in MQG’s efforts, are working now as full-time propagandists, no one is asking the organizers who finances their activities. Someone is paying tens of millions of shekels to rent buses to transport scores of thousands of people to rallies, buy them flags, print banners and signs, rent stages and sound systems, and finance ad campaigns in every newspaper and on billboards across the country.
Whoever is footing the bill, the front group for all of it is MQG.
A look at MQG’s funding reports on the Government Registrar of Non-Profits website doesn’t reveal much. MQG’s private and institutional donors are unnamed. But under the law, all registered nonprofits are required to report funding they receive from foreign governments. So MQG’s only named donor on its annual reports is the U.S. State Department.
According to MQG’s annual reports, for the past three years the State Department has been funding its programs for “democracy education” in Israeli high schools. Since MQG’s primary activity is subverting democracy in Israel by waging lawfare and sowing chaos in a bid to block democratically elected right-wing governments from fulfilling their pledges to voters, it’s fairly clear that when MQG refers to “democracy education,” it doesn’t mean majority rule.
In this week’s Caroline Glick Show, parents’ rights activist Roni Sassover explained that “democracy” curricula like those promoted by MQG are disguised efforts to subvert Israeli democracy. In the case of its school programs, the subversion comes in the form of post-Zionist indoctrination.
While claiming to oppose religious coercion, the actual goal of the “democracy curricula” is twofold. First, it seeks to bar Jewish Israeli schoolchildren in nonreligious public schools from learning about the Bible, Jewish history, religious traditions and holidays. Second, it strives to replace Judaism with post-Zionist curricula. To the extent Judaism is taught, it is taught from a critical perspective.
Similar to Critical Race Theory curricula in the United States, which indoctrinates American schoolchildren to believe their country was born in the sin of racism and has no moral claim to justice, groups like MQG advance “democracy” as a means of gutting Israel’s Jewish character and indoctrinating Israeli children to believe that there is something inherently wrong with Jewish nationalism and national self-determination. The “democracy” programs in the schools indoctrinate children to believe that the only moral way for Israel to organize itself is as a post-Jewish “state for all its citizens.”
And the State Department is funding its efforts.
The State Department’s funding is small. In 2020-2022, it provided a total of around $40,000 to MQG. But the point of the funding is not the amount involved, but the message it sends.
Just as the State Department provides financial support for MQG’s subversion of Israel’s Jewish character, the Biden administration supports MQG’s campaign to prevent the Netanyahu government and the Knesset from passing the judicial and legal reform packages they ran on in November’s election.
During their visits to Israel last month, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed judicial reform with Netanyahu. Blinken took the unprecedented step of lecturing Netanyahu in front of television cameras about how democracy works, as if he were a tin pot despot rather than the leader of the Middle East’s only democracy, the U.S.’s most powerful ally in the region.
Hectoring Netanyahu, Blinken said, “Building consensus for new proposals is the most effective way to ensure they’re embraced and that they endure.”
Blinken’s hypocrisy left many observers dumbfounded. Since its first day in office the Biden administration has demonized its political opponents as “semi-fascists” and threats to democracy. Biden governs without regard for his political opponents, and at least in the case of his open borders policy, in contravention of federal law.
After Blinken went home, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris issued similar statements.
For his part, Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides delivered a passive-aggressive threat to the Netanyahu government over the judicial reform package. In an interview, Nides explained that “Israeli democracy” is a key component of the U.S.’s defense of Israel at the U.N. The underlying message was clear: Do anything that our client MQG considers “anti-democratic” and our ability to defend Israel will diminish.
The anti-democratic, hyperpolitical character of MQG came out strongly during the Lapid-Bennett government’s year and a half in office. Whereas MQG head Eliad Shraga and his comrades ran to the court against every initiative of the previous Netanyahu government, during the Lapid-Bennett government’s time in power, they went on an extended vacation.
When last fall, in contravention of explicit requirements of the law, then-interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid signed and forced through the implementation of the Biden administration-mediated maritime gas deal with Hezbollah-controlled Lebanon without Knesset approval two weeks before the election, MQG sat on its hands. The Biden administration which is now so concerned about Israeli democracy, didn’t care that a majority of Knesset members opposed the deal that Biden and Blinken compelled Lapid to sign.
In 2017, MQG led another anti-Netanyahu campaign. Many of its supporters quit in disgust after Shraga gave a speech at another well-funded rally where he called Netanyahu and his supporters “traitors” and used racist language to attack Sephardic Likud lawmakers.
As one disgruntled, just resigned member explained at the time, “When I heard the speech, I couldn’t believe Shraga was saying those things. He demonstrated with his vile statements that he is an anarchist and a racist. I listened to him again in the radio interviews he gave…[a few days later]. When I saw that he wasn’t retracting his statements but stating his claims even more forcefully, I understood that something is broken. The issue of corruption is important to me, but the movement has transformed itself into a radical leftist movement that is calling for a putsch. My place is not with them and I tore up my membership card.”
Notably, the State Department funding began two years later, when there was no longer any doubt about MQG’s subversive role in Israeli society.
In his statement on Israeli democracy, Biden said, “The genius of American democracy and Israeli democracy is that they are both built on strong institutions, on checks and balances, on an independent judiciary. Building consensus for fundamental changes is really important to ensure that the people buy into them so they can be sustained.”
Perhaps Biden is driven by jealousy. Two-thirds of Israelis support judicial and legal reform. Two-thirds of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration and inflation. A large majority of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, foreign policy and crime issues. Biden could only dream of having as broad a consensus of support for his policies as Netanyahu has for his.

Biden Admin Negotiating Deal to Give WHO Power to Dictate America’s Policies in a Pandemic.
This is all part of the Biden Administration to "globalize" our Country -- and erase the power of the Congress and the Constitution. Turning over the handling of a major health outbreak in the U.S. to WHO is stunning and criminal. Not to mention that the WHO is controlled by China.
This fits into numerous "executive orders" issued by Biden; open borders, killing fossil fuels, transgenderism, control of education, "equity" in housing. Thomas Friedman Does Not Have the Last Word on Israel
JNS.org – On Feb. 13, 2023, Thomas L. Friedman penned a New York Times opinion piece entitled, “Biden’s 46 Words About Israel at a Critical Moment,” which attacked the current Israeli government’s campaign for judicial reform.
I remember the days when William Safire and A.M. Rosenthal ruled the roost at The New York Times. They were titans and their words resonated the world over. Democracy is not the same without them.
Thomas L. Friedman has never come close to their stature.
Israel has changed dramatically over the past 75 years. It has become more observant and more invested in the upbuilding of Judea and Samaria. Friedman and his followers have not caught up with this change.
The present governing coalition of Israel is representative of the majority of Israelis. It is the wave of the future. But it is difficult for the left to get used to this new reality. The Thomas Friedmans of the world cannot grasp the sea change that has taken place.
Friedman calls Netanyahu’s coalition “ultranationalist and ultrareligious.” This is far from the truth. They are the best and brightest Israel has produced and representative of the majority of Israelis. They are true visionaries looking out for Israel’s future. Left-controlled media outlets would like you to think otherwise, but the demographics speak for themselves. Unlike Israelis on the left who are having one child per family, Israelis on the right are having five or more children per family. The left does not want to face this reality.
The Israeli Supreme Court has become the personal bodyguard of the left. It has assumed powers that would make even David Ben-Gurion cringe.
Friedman’s attack on judicial reform in Israel fails to point out how vastly different Israel’s Supreme Court is from America’s. The former is not appointed by a democratically elected government. It is internally controlled and thus perpetuates its ideology through, to borrow a cliché, “an old boys club.”
In America, the president picks a potential Supreme Court justice and the Senate can either accept or reject them. President Ronald Reagan’s nomination of Robert Bork in 1987 is a paradigmatic example of this. Bork was a brilliant judge who became the last nomination to the Court to be rejected by the Senate. The Judiciary Committee rejected him in a 9-5 vote and the full Senate by 58-42.
As much as I might disagree with the rejection of Bork, it was done through a democratic process. Bork would have been one of the Supreme Court’s greatest justices, but a democratic verdict must be accepted.
However, no such process exists in Israel. Democratically elected leaders have no say as to who sits on the Israeli Supreme Court. This is what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting.
For 28 years, one man held sway over the Israeli Supreme Court. His name is Aharon Barak. Interestingly, Bork himself said that Barak “establishes a world record for judicial hubris.” Among Barak’s precedents was that judges cannot be removed by the Knesset, but only by other judges. Much of today’s controversy over judicial reform stems from the despotic measures Barak enacted.
Israel will figure out what changes to the judicial system are needed and the pace of those changes. Of course, compromises will be made, as they are in all democracies. But one thing is certain: Thomas Friedman does not have the last word on Israel.

IAEA Monitors in Iran Detect Uranium Enriched to 84% Purity
i24 News – International nuclear inspectors posted to Iran detected last week uranium enriched to levels just below the threshold for an atom bomb, Bloomberg reported Sunday, citing “two senior diplomats.”
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitors detected uranium enriched to 84 percent, the report said, the highest level found to date in the Islamic Republic.
The outstanding question, it is understood, is whether Iran produced the material intentionally; there is a possibility that the concentration of uranium occurred accidentally within the network of pipes connecting the hundreds of fast-spinning nuclear centrifuges.
Negotiations on Tehran’s contested nuclear policy with the West aimed at reviving a 2015 accord have been in the doldrums for several months and it appears that Washington accepts that diplomatic talks with the Islamic Republic reached a dead end.
There are pressing concerns regarding Tehran’s burgeoning military alliance with Moscow, which sees the two rogue nations developing a “full-fledged defense partnership.

Fetterman's Hospitalization Is Reminder Media Lied To Get Him Elected

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) deserves the sympathy and the well-wishes of the nation. The announcement by a senior aide that Fetterman is likely to remain hospitalized for severe depression for more than a month is sad news.
But now that the extent of his health problems can no longer be entirely concealed, the questions to be raised about this broader saga should not be confined to those about his clinical treatment and if and when he will return to his senatorial duties. Rather, we must scrutinze the way all but conservative media outlets have run interference for Fetterman throughout his successful 2022 Senate campaign and since he took office, in order to prevent the public from knowing the full extent of his impairment and ability to serve.
The tone of much of the corporate media's reporting about Fetterman's first weeks in office had largely been confined to cheery explanations of how the Senate and his colleagues were adjusting to his needs as a recovering stroke victim, rather than his health-related difficulties.
Even a largely optimistic feature in The New York Times on Fetterman's Senate routine noted that his recovery from the stroke he suffered only four days before winning the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary last May had been set back because he didn't take the time to rest that doctors recommend for patients in his position.
Fetterman's appalling performance during his sole debate with Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz raised serious questions about his health. But it had little impact on the outcome of a race that he wound up winning by a fairly comfortable 51%-46% margin. Nearly 700,000 votes had already been cast before the debate, and in the current hyper-partisan environment, it's far from clear that anything would have deterred Pennsylvania liberals from backing Fetterman.
Another impediment to inquiries about Fetterman's fitness was the Democrats' success in spinning him as a poster child for acceptance of those with disabilities. As the recent Times article demonstrated, Fetterman's situation has continued to be treated as morally and functionally equivalent to Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) needing ramps and other accommodations to get around Capitol Hill because she lost both her legs while serving during the Iraq War.
But as with Democrats' long (and now successful) push to force Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to retire because of the obvious evidence of the 89-year-old's cognitive decline, there is a difference between a senator who is fully capable of serving but requires a wheelchair and one who is ambulatory but mentally diminished.
Fetterman is unable to engage in routine Senate work without the help of digital technology that translates speech into text. But he is also incapable of easily speaking in normal fashion to colleagues, the press, or constituents, and is constantly surrounded by aides who shield him from such encounters.
While Fetterman's apologists claim these disabilities are temporary, his recent hospitalization for what some feared might be a sign of a second stroke, and now his diagnosis of depression, severely call into question the widespread celebration of his presence in the Senate as an ostensible rebuke of ableism.
It's also an apt moment to remember the way the corporate media covered for him during his campaign last year. A number of prominent liberal reporters interviewed Fetterman in the months after his stroke and then reliably assured the public that he was fine.
Only one journalist, NBC News reporter Dasha Burns, dissented. Hers was the sole on-camera interview that Fetterman gave prior to the debate with Oz. But Burns later noted that when his closed-captioning device was not turned on, Fetterman couldn't understand their conversation.
In response, team blue journalists performed a collective gang tackle on Burns, denouncing her as insensitive or as somehow bolstering the GOP. The Atlantic and Vogue contributor Molly Jong-Fast called Burns' comments "B.S."
New York Magazine's Rebecca Traister and Kara Swisher, of Vox and New York Magazine, agreed, arguing that Fetterman was just fine and claims to the contrary must evince journalistic misconduct. Even "Today" TV host Savannah Guthrie, an NBC colleague of Burns', seemed to attack her credibility.
Armed with such testimonials, Gisele Fetterman, the candidate's wife, not only demanded that NBC apologize, but even asserted there should be "consequences" for Burns.
Until the debate, when Fetterman's severe problems were evident, the journalists' defense of him might have seemed credible. But anyone who watched the dismal spectacle and who was not so blinded by partisanship so as to ignore the glaring evidence knew who had told the truth about Fetterman and who had not. Burns gave the public very important, and much needed, information.
As for Jong-Fast, Traister, and Swisher, they lied—plain and simple.
Their motives, like those of Fetterman's wife's, were not a mystery. The same goes for all those who seconded the objections to Burns' reporting. They all wanted Democrats to retain control of the Senate. And they were prepared to cover up or falsify the facts about Fetterman's health in order to advance his candidacy. Even after Fetterman took office, the supportive quotes about him from Senate Democrats and sympathetic reporters continued despite his problems becoming obvious to all.
We must all hope that Fetterman is able to surmount the enormous health challenges he faces, though it is not unfair to conclude that partisan considerations led to the sacrifice of his health and the possibility that this neglect could have long-term damaging effects.
The conclusion to be drawn from this sad tale transcends the arguments between the political parties: When it came to Fetterman's health and cognitive ability, journalists were prepared to sacrifice the truth in order to advance a partisan agenda.
Just as it is likely that Feinstein's willingness to sometimes tilt toward the center made liberal journalists more likely to focus on her own impairments, the desire to elect and then keep in office a man who was a reliable party-line progressive deterred coverage of his serious health problems until it was too late to cover them up.
The Fetterman saga is one more indictment of a mainstream liberal media that has long since abandoned its duty to report the news fairly, opting instead for partisan cheerleading. In doing so, the press is not merely responsible for helping to elect a senator who cannot serve, but is making it impossible to believe anything it reports.
