Police Funerals Mark a Make-or-Break Moment for Our City and Country
By LAWRENCE KUDLOW, Special to the Sun
The funeral of detective Wilbert Mora is marked another incredibly sad and tragic farewell to a cop killed in the line of duty. Detective Mora was a partner of Detective Jason Rivera, whose funeral was held last Friday. The funeral was held in a completely packed house in St. Patrick Cathedral here in New York.
Talking about this, the sadness, quickly turns to anger at the total systemic leadership failure of the political and law enforcement agencies here in New York. Today, as was the case last Friday, Fifth Avenue was filled with thousands of New York’s finest mourning and honoring their two former colleagues.
I believe, just as was the case last Friday, the huge turnout by the blue line of New York’s finest is making a strong and serious statement: “Enough is enough.”
These two funerals should be game-changers here in Gotham. They’re a local story, but it is a national story as well. With respect to crime, courts, and jails, there is simply too much permissiveness plaguing this country.
With all the loose talk over the past two years of “defunding the police” and in some cases even ending police departments, of instinctively blaming cops whenever there’s conflict on the streets, of coddling criminals and forgetting victims, be those victims civilians or cops, blue states actually permitting smash and grab looting — a problem that's getting worse, not better — and with more than a dozen major cities in blue states experiencing record homicide rates, this question looms: Who is looking out for the ordinary working Americans who form the majority and the backbone of this country and who are staunch supporters of the police and law and order?
It is they, not these anti-police left-wing radicals, who in the long-run are going to win this battle against crime. Right now, though, it is tough-going. And I’ll say, as somebody who's lived in New York City since 1973, with a bit of time off in Washington, this is a demoralizing period.
I see it, I hear it from friends. Everybody's talking about it. It is not good. Just in January of this new year alone, 33 officers have been shot, and 6 have been killed. That’s in the first month.
Over the past 12 months, New York City crime has spiked nearly 39%. The neighborhoods aren’t safe. Schools aren’t safe. Subways aren't safe. Businesses aren't safe. This is a terrible state of affairs.
The past mayoral administration was anti-cop. Literally, anti-police. The new governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, so far is no better. New Mayor, Eric Adams, wants judges to set bail and Ms. Hochul will not agree. No bail, no jail, District Attorney Alvin Bragg says.
Governor Hochul met with him and walked out with an opaque statement, “safety and justice must go hand and hand.” What in the world does that mean? She should have given him a highly visible public dressing down. She should have said that without immediate change she would fire him. But she didn’t.
The socialist legislature, both the Assembly and the Senate run by far-left Democrats will not help. Mayor Adams wants more bail, and more jail. He’s putting plainclothes police back on the streets but the political establishment here is not supporting it. Instead they are nit-picking him, ankle-biting him.
A teenage rapper named C-Blu shot a cop, was arrested, and then set free on an affordable bail. The mayor was insisting that the kid should still be in jail. The business community met with the DA, Mr. Bragg, and my pal Steve Schwarzman spoke up and said folks won’t come back to work unless the crime wave is stopped.
Steve is right. Crime is a security issue. It’s also a big economic issue. People are fleeing the city and the state in some large measure because of crime. Businesses close and move elsewhere. Young people out of school look for jobs elsewhere around the country.
I remember talking to Rudy Giuliani way back in the 1990s, when he moved forcefully to end the crime wave, that high-crime was a tax hike and low-crime was like a tax cut. New York City and state have to cut taxes as well to keep businesses here and attract new ones, but crime is really the first step.
If you want to reform the city, it’s tough on crime, school choice, and cut taxes. That’s an easy policy prescription. Ultimately, who is accountable? Who is responsible? and ultimately it’s the political class that is in charge. They have failed us, at the city and the state levels.
We have a new mayor and let us be hopeful. The governor has to be replaced. The legislature's got to be replaced and somehow the city council has to be overcome. As a diehard New Yorker it makes me sad. I want a comeback here. I want a new New York.
I want law and order. Respect cops and all uniformed services. I want to open businesses, to open office buildings, to open the schools. This is a crime story today. It’s an economic story, but it’s even much larger than that. This is a make or break moment for this city. And really, it’s a make or break moment for this whole country

Bomb Threats Rock Over a Dozen Schools
(NewsReady.com) – February 1, was the start of Black History Month in the United States. What’s usually a celebration of the diversity in America has turned into a day of extreme stress for students across the country.
Thirteen historically black colleges and universities (HCBU) went into lockdowns or closed on the first day of the month after receiving bomb threats. It was the second time this week, and the third in the past month that they’d received threats. The FBI is involved in investigations into the threats. The agency released a statement saying it’s aware of the threats and are working with local law enforcement to address them.
Howard University issued a shelter-in-place order on Tuesday, but others shortly followed. Morgan State University President David K. Wilson released a statement saying officials were searching the campus to ensure it was safe for students and staff. He said the school would emerge from this situation strong, just like it always does when it faces challenges.
According to reports, law enforcement officials and the FBI have identified six possible suspects. All of them are juveniles, and officials say they appear to be “tech savvy.” They reportedly used sophisticated methods to hide their identities to make racially-motivated threats.
The investigation is ongoing.

Susan Sarandon shares post comparing NYPD funeral turnout to ‘fascism’ in latest example of anti-cop vitriol
By Mark Lungariello
Actress Susan Sarandon shared a Twitter post comparing police gathered at the funeral of slain NYPD Detective Jason Rivera to fascists — in the latest example of anti-cop vitriol.
The “Thelma & Louise” star posted an image that showed a tweet by writer and podcaster Danny Haiphong of a photo of the massive turnout of officers in Manhattan last week.
“I’m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like,” the original tweet said.
Sarandon posted an image Tuesday that included an apparent screenshot of the original tweet and a caption that said, “So, if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?”
The hashtag #abolishthepolice was added over the original screenshot. It wasn’t clear if Sarandon made the post herself or was sharing it from elsewhere.
Sarandon, who won the Oscar for Best Actress for the movie “Dead Man Walking,” has been an outspoken critic of police brutality and has taken part in Black Lives Matters protests, including in Brooklyn.

White House and State Department advice to our former Jewish Ambassador to Israel:
Former Ambassador David Friedman warned by White House: ‘Don’t be so Jewish’
“You represent the United States of America. Tone down the Judaism in your work,” a U.S. State Department official told David Friedman and according to Breitbart.
Friedman reportedly recounts the anti-Semitic episodes in his new book, Sledgehammer: How Breaking With the Past Brought Peace to the Middle East, set to be released on Feb. 8.
The book centers on how the White House under former President Donald Trump successfully achieved the Abraham Accords and a new era of peace in the region.
The excerpt from the book that was shared by Breitbart is as follows:
Word of my stubborn insistence on standing with our ally Israel had now circulated widely within the State Department. Another senior staffer decided to call me and offer the following advice: “Mr. Ambassador, don’t be so Jewish.”
“What?”
“Don’t be so Jewish. You represent the United States of America. Tone down the Judaism in your work.”
Don’t be so Jewish.
I was furious. “Do you think I am under any disillusion as to who I represent? I’m not a politically correct person but I have to ask you, why do the laws of political correctness not apply to Jews?”
“Just a free word of advice.” Worth the price.
Friedman said the remarks were made ahead of Trump’s first visit to Israel in May 2017, when the White House was conflicted over whether to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, its current site.
At that time, he helped arrange a visit for Trump to the Western Wall on that trip, making him the first sitting American president to do so.

Have Radical Democrats used COVID as an excuse to gain more power, grow government, and restrict freedom. Is the vaccine safe? Are masks effective? You decide?
The COVID Narrative is Falling Apart
By James Stansbury
Joe Biden claims this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated and wants everyone in the world vaxxed with the “safe and effective” vaccines. In addition, he plans to distribute millions of "effective" N-95 masks. Anyone paying attention knows this is a big lie. Masks may be a comforting placebo, but even the N95s don’t work as advertised. And new revelations about dangerous vaccine side effects have surfaced despite media suppression.
New Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin made masks and vaccinations optional for state employees and public schools. Immediately some parents, teachers, and school boards threw a hissy fit (at least seven lawsuits have resulted so far). Meanwhile, those who voted for him see this as much-needed relief from a pandemic that has run its course.
Why is there so much disagreement? The late Malcolm Muggeridge put it this way; “People do not believe lies because they have to, but because they want to.” Think about it; the Left and their media allies have terrified our children and ordinary citizens so much that they desperately want to believe masks and vax mandates are the only answer. Anyone who disagrees must be silenced, socially destroyed, or even allowed to die by withholding organ transplants or life-saving therapeutics.
I was taught the only way to fight a lie is with the truth. However, I also know those who placed all their hope in the big COVID lie will do whatever it takes to silence anyone who disagrees. Just ask Joe Rogan about being silenced. It is nearly impossible to overcome emotion with facts, but I will present some anyway:
1). Alarming vax side effects reported by military whistleblowers. This story made a few waves last week when Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) included a mention in his five-hour Senate hearing. The information came from the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED), a mundane accounting tool used to track all medical diagnoses of military personnel and dependents for insurance billing purposes. DMED did better than the CDC’s ineffective Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Following is a summary of the most alarming vax side effects:
Myocardial infarction (heart attack) -- 269% increase
Cancer diagnoses -- 300% increase
Miscarriage -- 300% increase
Bell’s palsy -- 291% increase
Congenital malformations (for children of military personnel) – 156% increase
Female infertility -- 471% increase
Pulmonary embolisms -- 467% increase
Neurological issues -- 1,000% increase

The doctors who actually do know best?
2). Athletes are mysteriously dying of sudden heart attacks: In Dec. 2021, Lorphic News, a non-traditional news source reported on the extraordinary number of physically fit, fully vaccinated athletes experiencing fatal heart attacks. This claim was systematically denied by most news sources. However, a chart compiled by the Federation Internationale de Football [soccer] Association (FIFA) confirms this is real and like the above military data, is based on a large sample size. FIFA has member athletes from 209 countries and has routinely tracked athlete health data for 20 years. Their long-term data confirms a fivefold increase in sudden cardiac deaths in only six months of 2021.
3). Vaccines now have negative efficacy: Data has surfaced claiming that continued use of the original vax is causing negative efficacy. Negative efficacy doesn't mean the protection fades. It means the opposite: it means the vaccines are now weakening the immune system. It became clear that countries with the highest vax rates were the most likely to experience a surge in both cases and deaths. You can monitor five representative countries' daily death rates here. Note that India is included because India was the only one to allow the widespread early use of inexpensive therapeutics. Initially, their protocol included hydroxychloroquine but when the more deadly delta variant hit they switched to a protocol that included ivermectin. India had far better results than the others in taming COVID.
In the above sample, Australia had the most severe police state lockdowns, mask mandates, and a high vax rate of around 80%. After some initial success, it has suddenly gone from near zero cases and deaths to having an explosion in both. Since spring of 2021 Sweden, noted for its minimal mandates, had maintained near-zero cases and deaths as a result of achieving herd immunity early. All that changed when for reasons unknown Sweden pushed vaccinations despite the herd immunity achievement. As a result, Sweden’s flat-lined case and death rate also spiked, thus indicating its herd immunity achievement is compromised by vax negative efficacy.
4). Omicron provides long-lasting natural immunity: A peer-reviewed article titled “Cross-reactive memory T cells associate with protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection in COVID-19 contacts” published Jan. 10 in the scientific journal Nature provided a warning and some encouragement:
Once widespread infection (such as the Omicron wave) occurs across the world, the virus will eventually circulate endemically, meaning that infections may still happen but with milder symptoms and much less mortality
There are two reasons that the transition from pandemic to endemic didn’t happen until Omicron: 1) all the widely used vaccines are based on the spike protein, which doesn’t induce a protective long-lasting T-cell response, and 2) natural immunity wasn’t widespread.
In other words, the current vaccines too narrowly target only the original Alpha spike protein and ignore the rest of the virus proteins. This inhibits the production of long-lasting memory T-cells that can more readily adapt to new variants and this omission for those most heavily vaccinated appears to have changed omicron from mild to more dangerous.
Conclusions: Considering the dangerous vax side effects described above, it’s time to recognize that COVID is becoming endemic like the closely related common cold or seasonal flu. This means the safest way for the unvaccinated to produce the necessary long-lasting memory T-cells may be by catching omicron.
For those facing omicron with an immune system weakened by multiple vaxxes and boosters, age, or comorbidities, an emergency use authorization by the FDA for the therapeutics (chiefly ivermectin) India used could be a lifesaver. However, the political climate today makes FDA authorization unlikely -- many hospitals have already allowed patients to die rather than try these proven, safe therapeutics. And last week, effective monoclonal antibody treatments have mysteriously lost their FDA approval.
Therefore, it wouldn’t hurt to fortify your immune system with a daily dose of over-the-counter vitamin D3, C, and zinc (all are included in India’s COVID kit). Around 80 to 85 percent of people who died from COVID were deficient in these vitamins and the most vulnerable are senior citizens and the obese (because fat cells absorb vitamin D before it can reach where needed). I’m no doctor so ask yours for dose rates since each can vary widely by weight, age, etc. We are still on our own for an early treatment option so it may be better to contact an organization of rebel doctors like the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC).
U.K. PM Boris Johnson did the right thing by ending all vax and mask mandates and letting nature take its course. (The Remnant features an excellent analysis of the politics behind the COVID tyranny.) Denmark has just followed his lead. Will 50,000 fearless Canadian truckers succeed in bringing a strong enough emotion to Canada or the U.S. to end the mandates?

Holder, Obama and Soros have been in cahoots for years.
Eric Holder’s ‘Democracy’ Con
He campaigns against gerrymandering, then says not a word about New York’s map.
By Kimberley A. Strassel
.
To understand the political con that is the Democrats’ “voting rights” push, look at the bait-and-switch that preceded it. Eric Holder this week cemented his party’s ruthless and partisan gerrymandering victory over Republicans—all in the name of “democracy.”
The left is at full pitch on its voting “reform” campaign—accusing Republican states of “rigging” elections with laws to suppress the minority vote. They insist Democrats’ proposed federal takeover of state elections is the only thing that will save the country, the Constitution, justice and the cosmos. They claim the stakes are so high that it is necessary to blow up the Senate filibuster and strip all 50 states of their longtime power to set election rules. They also declare anyone who isn’t on board a racist.
Where have we heard this before? In 2016 Barack Obama’s former attorney general, Mr. Holder, started a new activist group, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. He explained the GOP had “rigged” the redistricting system to entrench its control, resulting in “voter suppression.” Republican maps had “broken” our democracy, produced “racial gerrymandering,” and served to “manipulate” the vote, he wrote in 2017. The only cure was to strip GOP legislatures of the ability to draw districts, handing the job to “nonpartisan” commissions or courts. It’s a new cure, one conveniently invented by the Democratic Party.
Gerrymandering is older than dirt. Both parties regularly exercise this raw power, which until recently was viewed as the straightforward prize of winning state elections. Democrats saw it that way for decades. In the 1980s and ’90s they controlled nearly twice as many state legislatures as Republicans—and gerrymandered like bandits.
Mr. Obama’s unpopular governance changed that, losing Democrats some 1,000 down-ballot seats over his tenure and handing the GOP a distinct advantage in the 2010 redistricting cycle. It was a bitter pill, and Mr. Holder was tasked with developing an antidote. He mounted an effort to recapture state legislatures, but his bigger contribution was in litigation and in reframing the debate. He cloaked his party’s brass-knuckle effort as a fight for truth, racial justice and the American way. GOP redistricting: racist, undemocratic, rigged. Democratic redistricting: goodness, light, frolicking puppies.
In theory, Republicans should also be crushing the 2020 redistricting process. Voters over the past decade fled blue states, and Democrats failed to break the GOP’s state dominance. Instead, with this week’s completion of New York’s redistricting map, Mr. Holder’s long “justice” con proved a stunning success. Despite all the GOP’s structural advantages, Democrats may be headed into this year’s midterms on even footing, or even with a slight leg up.
How? Mr. Holder’s success rests in his “sue to blue” strategy—his vigorous litigation of the last round of GOP maps—coupled with an aggressive public smear campaign. He’s spent years squeezing GOP candidates who failed to sign his “fair districts” pledge and accusing Republicans of minority voter suppression—both publicly and in court documents. Any number of state and federal judges intervened and redrew maps to favor Democrats.
The result is that some state Republican parties are pulling their punches. Tired of getting dragged into drawn-out litigation, sick of being branded Jim Crow, and wary courts might choose to impose their own maps, many GOP state lawmakers this round chose to focus on shoring up their own districts, rather than pushing into Democratic territory. That didn’t stop Democrats from litigating those maps anyway, as well as more aggressive GOP products—pulling courts into fights in North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and even Alabama.
This has cleared the field for blue states to gerrymander the bejeesus out of their maps. New York’s map (which even the senior counsel at the left-leaning Brennan Center’s Democracy Project called a “master class” in gerrymandering) will likely allow Democrats to seize four to five of the GOP’s current eight seats. Illinois snatched another two. Oregon Democrats created a new district and promptly handed it to themselves. Add partisan advantages in California, Maryland and New Jersey. And the courts in these blue states are so relentlessly partisan, Democrats face no risk of a judge striking down their efforts.
Not that Mr. Holder is involved in any such litigation. For all his sanctimony about his mission to “rebuild a democracy,” Mr. Holder’s group has never challenged a Democratic gerrymander. And he uttered not a peep this week about the New York map.
There’s a lesson here for Republicans, now getting hammered for their state voting reforms. Just as with Mr. Holder’s redistricting march, the left’s federal voting takeover is about juking the rules in a way that will advantage them in future elections. Their goal isn’t justice or fairness; the goal is to win. Democrats are swindling voters with their “democracy” claims. Republicans shouldn’t let them get away with it.

Since most of Biden's problems are self-inflicted the solution is basically reverse everything you have done and become more Trump like in terms of policy decisions.
In essence, take the medicine you have telling us is poison.
Is it possible you could do this? Hardly. So I assume inflation will rise, debt will mount and your problems will continue because you are a pitiful example of what D.C both attracts and makes worse over time.
Solution to Dems' Crime Problem is to Ditch Left-Wing Policies
JONATHAN TOBIN , EDITOR IN CHIEF, JNS.ORG
Crime wave? What crime wave? That's been the primary reaction from the White House and liberal talking heads in recent weeks when asked about the surge in murders in deep-blue cities and voters' sense that they are less safe than ever.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki scoffed at coverage of the issue. Referring to a Fox News program that spoke of Democrats being "soft on crime" she asked, "What does that even mean?" A day later, she doubled down, saying claims that rising levels of crime was a top concern for voters had "no basis."
CNN media reporter Brian Stelter summed up the disconnect between the chattering classes and ordinary citizens when he used his program to mock the stories Fox News runs on the issue. As far as he is concerned, the entire notion of cities becoming unlivable and people afraid to leave their homes or take subways was nothing more than an "imagined drama."
That's enough to satisfy those who think President Joe Biden's sinking poll numbers are the result of a Trumpist plot.
Whether or not Fox News is hyping the issue—while Biden cheerleaders downplay it—concerns about crime are not being invented by the media. Polls have shown rising worries about crime in the last year.
This is more than a problem of perceptions. The Center for Disease Control reported that 2020 brought the highest one-year rise in the national homicide rate in modern history. Even CNN referred to historic increases in violent crime in American cities as an "epidemic." Ten of the country's largest cities set records for homicides last year.
Democrats harp on the ease with which criminals can obtain illegal weapons. However, passing new gun control laws isn't the answer. Such proposals wouldn't do anything more than nibble around the edges of the problem in a country where firearms already outnumber people and existing laws are not fully enforced.
The crisis in America's cities goes a lot deeper. And the responsibility for it can be laid directly at the feet of members of Biden's party.
The moral panic about race that spread through the country after the death of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement in the summer of 2020 had real consequences. It brought a backlash against law enforcement and calls for defunding the police that caused resignations, declining morale and a trend in which police pulled back from hands-on enforcement in order to avoid unfair criticism or prosecutions.
Most Democratic officeholders knew the defund movement was political poison. Yet they weren't prepared to defy their activist base, which had fully embraced the notion that law enforcement was synonymous with racism.
Democratic district attorneys like San Francisco's Chesa Boudin and Philadelphia's Larry Krasner have put BLM ideas into action with deplorable results. Boudin and Krasner—who were, like many others across the country, elected with help from left-wing billionaire George Soros—have moved away from prosecuting all but the most heinous of crimes. They act as if their prime responsibility is to defend criminals against cops, not citizens against criminals. In doing so they have essentially decriminalized the drug trade and a host of other "low-level" crimes. Gang members and other repeat offenders are receiving permanent "get-out-jail-free" cards.
The effects of these policies have been felt the most acutely in inner-city minority neighborhoods. Though leftist activists insist that law enforcement is a threat to these communities, the people who live there understand their problem isn't too much policing but too little.
In New York, Democrats in the state legislature passed one of BLM's pet ideas: a "bail reform" law that went into effect in 2021. The law made it difficult to keep even career criminals behind bars pending trial, leading to a situation in which law breakers, including those who shoot cops, are released as fast as they can be apprehended.
Revulsion against such policies is part of what allowed Eric Adams, a former police captain and—in the context of deep blue New York—a relative moderate, to be elected mayor last year, beating a collection of leftists whose ideas were more in line with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Adams has declared "democratic socialists" like AOC to be his main political foes. He has pushed back hard against criminal-friendly Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and criticized bail reform. But while the mayor makes his stand, Biden is repeating the same tired liberal talking points about gun control.
Adams was elected by the middle- and working-class New Yorkers who didn't have to watch Fox News to be convinced that their city became a hellscape under the misrule of progressive predecessor Bill de Blasio.
Critics of Adams' approach who live in safer neighborhoods or who can afford to flee to the suburbs or Florida can laugh along with Psaki and Stelter. But as pandemic-related economic decline, liberal policies that left drug addicts and mentally ill people on the streets and "bail reform" made New York unlivable, Adams voters want safety, not virtue signaling about racism that makes their lives worse.
The message should be clear for Biden and other Democrats as they approach a midterm election cycle likely to bring catastrophic defeat.
While Democrats would rather continue talking about Jan. 6 and a mythical threat to democracy from their political opponents, the voters have noticed that liberal policies are destroying America's cities.
On crime and other issues, Biden remains in thrall to the Left, unable or unwilling to support Adams' efforts to save New York or to criticize the Soros-backed DAs ruining other cities.
With murders—including a rash of tragic killings of police—on the rise, crime is going to be a major issue in the 2022 midterms. If Biden wants to save his party, he's going to have to jettison the Left and start opposing the bad policies—and the toxic ideas—that blue-state Democrats have inflicted on the country.
