Sowell's concluding chapter, #5, is entitled: Words, Deeds and Dangers."
He discusses Hayek's view of life was generally unfair but not society because the former was not deemed a "...decision making unit... as was government." That said, neither could overcome the many and varied circumstances that influence the fate of individuals.
Sowell writes that a society that puts equality of outcome ahead of freedom will end with neither.
He ends with a discussion of affirmative actions and what social justice advocates sought but failed to produce .
I would like to digress and present my own views about why government continues to fail and actually dumbs down and the discussion is generally limited to the impact on the individual but seldom, if ever, on the impact on society.
I submit government agencies are structurally pyramidal in nature and bureaucrats seek to expand their responsibilities because this equates with funding. In other words, the more agencies take on the more funding they receive.
Thus, pyramidically speaking, there are fewer successful at t the top than at the bottom.
I had a black friend who argued affirmative action was necessary to get the ball rolling in order to correct generations of denial. He later professed affirmative action had proven more destructive than positive because it lasted far too long and raised false hopes.
Not only do I concur but I take mt despair a step further. Very seldom is there any discussion about the impact on the patient who goes to an inferior doctor or client who receives inferior legal advice etc. The impact of affirmative action on American society, elite educational universities and blacks has been devastating because it has lowered educational quality, the demand for excellence and made America less competitive.
The deleterious impact of Affirmative Action, like a viral infection, spread to the community as whole. Add the negative impact of Covid and America has fallen way behind.
Sowell's: "Social Justice Fallacies" empirically is a challenging effort and not an easy read but it provides food for thought. More importantly, it challenges many conclusions supporting racial biases that are more likely attributed to factors over which we have little if any control and which shape human circumstances.
Humans are not necessarily "chess pieces."

I just finished listening to Daniel Pipes answer questions. We are in total agreement regarding Israel's response to current imposed pressures, how the Hamas War must end and what Palestinians must do to rule themselves in Gaza while accommodating Israel's need for peaceful conditions to emerge.
He believes Hezbollah does not want to extend the war nd Israel needs to make clear that Israelis can return to their homes and Hezbollah must accommodate this critical need.
He does not see the Biden administration addressing the need to challenge Iran and support Iranian dissidents.
As for Hamas they must be defeated as a functioning entity and replaced by Palestinians who are willing to rule themselves while accommodating Israel's need for peaceful neighbors.
Finally, he believes America needs Israel as much as Israel needs America, China has turned anti-Semitic, after years of friendship with Israel, and Russia will remain a non-irritant.
As for the hostages situation he totally agrees with my view that the best hope for any release is for Israel to concentrate on defeating Hamas.

You would think Biden would be curious as to why he and his Sec. of Defense had not spoken for 3 days. We have a doofus as our president - a dangerous one.
And:
|
The gross negligence and incompetence of the Biden Administration is appalling. Their bad decisions continuously putting our national security at risk and destroying America (maybe willfully) must be exposed and stopped. The border being invaded by millions of illegals, our national security threatened here and around the globe because of this weak president, the economy a total mess, we could go on all day.
The mainstream liberal (we repeat ourselves) media tries to protect their guy at every turn by ignoring all of these problems.
But this moment is it for the American people and the future of our nation. This election is do-or-die for America. And the left is trying to censor the truth through their Big Tech pals. Nearly every big story we report that makes Biden look bad comes under attack from them. Regardless of this, we at Townhall will continue to report the truth that they want to be hidden. Our nation depends on it |

Israel’s 101st Day of War
By Sherwin Pomerantz
Yesterday, on the 100th day of the war, with 136 hostages still held in a hell we cannot begin to imagine, there were ceremonies around Israel to remember the children, women and men, to read out their names, one by one, and to support their families, who are living a reality none of us can even imagine. All around this nation, a battered people are slowly realizing that we’re unlikely to fully meet either of the goals we set for this war — destroying Hamas and getting all the captives back alive. So, we took a collective day to pause, to remember, to embrace and to pray.
Today, Monday, the IDF continued to focus on the Hamas stronghold of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip as Israel’s war against the terrorist group entered its 101st day. Israeli aircraft killed two terrorists loading weapons onto a truck, also destroying the vehicle and the weapons. Troops also entered a Hamas command center and seized AK-47 rifles, handguns, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and diving gear belonging to Hamas’s naval forces.
Two weapons storage facilities and Hamas operational infrastructure were struck in a combined ground and aerial attack, according to the IDF. Soldiers also located weapons, explosive devices and ammunition inside a cabinet in a child’s room at the residence of a Hamas terrorist. In the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli forces killed five terrorists who were attempting to locate weapons in an area where troops were active.
“We do not intend to back down from Khan Yunis or any other place. The military operation takes time. It requires us to be precise, and we tailor it to the threats and the captives in the area. There are no shortcuts here; it takes time and, above all, resilience,” IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a press briefing on Sunday evening.
An Israeli woman in her 70s was killed and at least 17 other people were wounded on Monday in a combined car-ramming and stabbing attack in Ra’anana. Israeli forces arrested two suspects following a manhunt. Police said the terrorists were residents of Bani Naim near Hebron in Judea. It was unclear how they reached Ra’anana and whether they had permits to work in Israel. According to police, one of the terrorists changed vehicles three times during the course of the attack, with two incidents reported at 1:34 p.m. and 1:44 p.m. according to the Magen David Adom emergency response organization. The attacks took place near the end of the school day, and Ra’anana Mayor Chaim Broyde requested that residents and schoolchildren stay inside during the hour-long search for the suspects.
Hamas on Sunday night published propaganda videos of Gaza hostages Noa Argamani, 26, Yossi Sharabi, 53, and Itai Svirsky, 38, showing the first signs of life of all three hostages. The video shows them introducing themselves and asking the Israeli government to return them home. Hamas said the fate of the three would be revealed on Monday.
The saga continues without letup but with the hope that we will see positive resolution sooner rather than later.

A former consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton (today Booz & Co.) at their New York office, he holds an MS in Medical Research from Tel Aviv University’s School of Medicine, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as well as an MA in International Studies from the same university.
He is perhaps most proud of his service as CEO of the Eastern Mediterranean International School Foundation, a not-for-profit whose mission is to make education a force for peace and sustainability in the Middle East. Its main activity was to found the EMIS international boarding school in Israel bringing together high school students from around the globe for a two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) program (11th-12th grades). 20% of the students are Israeli, 20% are non-Israeli Arab and Muslim students and 60% hail from over 40 countries.
Israel is blessed with many capable professionals who, after the war, will need to consider giving of their time and expertise to the challenges that will face us as we craft a new model of democracy and economic growth for the Middle East. Hopefully they will accept that challenge.

Fani Willis Under Investigation After Affair Allegations Involving Prosecutor
While the left has been prying into former President Donald Trump’s private life, conservatives were able to return the favor after the stunning revelation of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ personal life came to light.
The Georgia attorney, who has charged the former president, along with 18 co-defendants, with trying to change the 2020 election outcome in the state, has been accused of having an “improper” relationship with Nathan Wade.
The accusation was made by Michael Roman, one of the co-defendants. His lawyer served a subpoena to Willis on Monday.
“The district attorney chose to appoint her romantic partner, who at all times relevant to this prosecution has been a married man,” Roman’s attorney Ashleigh Merchant wrote.
A private attorney, Wade was hired as a special prosecutor for the case by Willis. What puts Willis deeper in the hole is that Wade’s hiring did not follow proper protocol since she did not receive approval from the county. On top of that, Wade has no prior experience of being a crminal prosecutor.
Wade filed for divorce from his wife, Joycelyn, on November 2, 2021, which happened to be the day after his contract started with Willis. The two allegedly went on lavished vacations in Florida, Napa Valley and the Caribbean together on taxpayer’s money. Since prosecuting Trump’s case, Wade has received almost $1 million.
According to Wade’s estranged wife, he continued taking money from her account, often overdrawing it, putting the 20-year stay-at-home mom in “dire need.” She also alleged that he did not disclose his six figure income from the county.
Willis also received a subpoena from Joycelyn’s lawyer to testify in the divorce proceeding
Things got even worse for Willis on Wednesdsay when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a complaint to request a criminal investigation into the attorney.
“I request you order the immediate and formal criminal investigation into the alleged criminal misconduct by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, along with her special Trump prosecutor and alleged boyfriend Nathan Wade, pursuant to your authority under Georgia statute,” wrote Greene.
Many believe that the allegations are enough to dismiss the case against Trump

The Maga Hating Democrats decided to do everything they could to prevent Trump from campaigning. The various state district attorneys have no constitutional right to engage in lawsuits which are under the domain of the federal government so their "piling on" backfired and strengthened Trump. It Is Donald Trump's Party
ERICK-WOODS ERICKSON
I really did think that, given the operation he had built in Iowa, Ron DeSantis could pull it off. The fact that he battled for second against Nikki Haley in a very close race strongly indicates that the path forward is off a cliff for DeSantis.
The Republican Party is Donald Trump’s party. I saw some Twitter account say Trump is taking on the establishment, but it is very clear that Trump is the establishment. He is the dominant force in the GOP. The party is his.
The Iowa blowout was extremely impressive and shows a strong desire by the party's base for a 2020 rematch, which they will undoubtedly get unless Biden steps aside.
For those of us who are not fans of Trump, we’ll all have to make a choice — sit on the sidelines, walk away from the GOP, or vote for Trump (or some might go with Biden). But, frankly, given the enthusiasm of the base in Iowa — a state that rejected him in 2016 — it probably does not matter.
Trump will be the GOP nominee. Many of those who insist they’ll never vote for him, when confronted by the woke left and Biden in the general, will change their minds.
Whether he can beat Biden is another issue. The reality is that Trump’s victory in November will be way more resource-intensive than a Haley or DeSantis victory. That will deprive House and Senate races of resources. Likewise, there is some evidence that many general election voters just haven’t wrapped their brains around the GOP rallying to Trump. That could benefit Biden.
When the polls shift, don’t blame the pollsters. For everyone saying the pollsters were wrong, they were right about Iowa. The Real Clear Politics polling average had Trump at 52% heading into last night. He’ll wind up close to that.
Right now, those same polls have Trump ahead of Biden by 1.1%, and Trump, historically, outperforms the polls. The polling will undoubtedly shift as Trump gets more national, regular media exposure and the general election public comes to terms with the GOP backing Trump.
The GOP should remember that among voters who voted in 2020, Biden wins against Trump in 2024. The Democrats should remember that if Trump can mobilize his voters in 2024, Trump wins.
The difference between the Republican Primary and the General Election is that the primary is a blowout. The general election will not be.
As for the DeSantis campaign, they won’t quit yet. But, as someone who has written favorably about their efforts and ground game, I do not see a viable path. If all that money, mobilization, and effort could not get close to Trump in Iowa, it won’t help nationally. Never Back Down got beat down in Iowa.
In the race between Trump-like and Trump, the base of the party wants Trump — warts and all. It is an open question if the general election voters will feel the same way.
As an aside, it was completely irresponsible of the American media to call the Caucuses before any votes started. At the same time, given the margin of victory, it is sour grapes and whining to presume doing so altered the inevitable outcome.
Lastly, thank God we’re almost to the end of Vivek’s campaign

Palestinian ‘Pay for Slay’ Keeps Growing
Blinken touts reform while the PA adds more terrorists to the payroll.
The Editorial Board
image
Last Wednesday’s Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, the PA’s newspaper and mouthpiece, announced 23,210 additional “martyrs,” using the Hamas-supplied Gaza casualty figure that includes every dead Hamas terrorist. The PA pays a one-time lump sum plus a monthly stipend for life to the families of any “martyr” killed attacking Israel or in a confrontation with Israel.
The PA also recognized 3,550 new prisoners held by Israel since Oct. 7. Most were arrested in West Bank counterterrorism raids, though 661 are Hamas terrorists from Gaza. They, too, will receive PA salaries, which rise over time such that the most gruesome crimes yield the biggest payments. This practice has helped earn the program its “pay for slay” moniker.
Itamar Marcus of Palestinian Media Watch explains that “the PA does not differentiate between Hamas terrorists who committed atrocities after invading Israel on Oct. 7, the Hamas terrorists killed by Israel in the ensuing war, and civilian non-combatants killed in the Gaza Strip while being used as human shields by Hamas.” All are treated as heroic martyrs to be compensated by the PA, whose activities are subsidized with Western aid.
Meanwhile, in Ramallah, Mr. Blinken said that PA leader Mahmoud Abbas is “committed” to reform. Where’s the evidence? His four-year term is stretching into its 20th year. Even as the PA complains of a budget crunch, it is readying to move from glorifying the Oct. 7 attack to compensating its participants.
Why, again, does President Biden insist Israel hand over postwar Gaza to this group? Mr. Blinken also talks prematurely of giving it a state. No wonder the PA sees little reason to change
