Passed stress test now scheduling  to have a block placed in  (left atrial) which will diminish need for very strong blood thinner medicine I am currently taking (can return to aspirin) which has side effects while at the same time it will also reduce the prospect of  strokes.  It is a device made by Boston Scientific and is very effective.  Takes about 30 minutes under  local anesthetic. It is called the  WATCHMAN procedure.

I am much improved than I was about a month ago. I will continue to experience chronic bronchitis but can walk greater distance w/o being winded.  MIght even improve enough to return  to tennis.

Just finished both Avi Jorisch's second book and a new book by Richard North Patterson entitled "Trial.". Richard was a former partner in my father's law firm and always wanted to be a novelist.  Dad encouraged him to pursue his dream but to remain with the firm.  He felt that would not work so he moved to California and has subsequently written over 40 books. Richard writes well, far more descriptive than James Patterson

‘Biggest Ever International Investment’: Intel to Open New Factory in Southern Israel
Jun 18, 2023

$25 billion dollar investment is to create thousands of new jobs in city of Kiryat Gat. ‘An investment like this is an expression of confidence in the Israeli economy and its high-quality manpower.’

By Ben Rappaport, United with Israel

US semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel will establish a new factory in the southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat with an investment of $25 billion dollars, Reuters reported on Sunday.

The factory is to open in 2027 and will operate at least through 2035, Reuters added, citing Israel’s finance ministry.

The ministry also said that Intel will pay a 7.5% tax rate under the deal, up from the current 5%.

In return, according to Calcalist, Intel will receive a grant, in accordance with the Law to Encourage Capital Investments, amounting to 12.8% of the investment amount, subject to meeting targets.

The ministry said that as a result of the investment, thousands of additional workers are expected to be hired in Kiryat Gat, at wages higher than the average in the industry, Calcalist reported.

In a statement at the weekly cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called the plan the “biggest investment ever of an international company in the State of Israel.”

“An investment like this is an expression of confidence in the Israeli economy and its high-quality manpower, the excellent human capital among us,” Smotrich said.

“The benefit to the Israeli market from this investment is huge, and will find expression in growth in the flourishing of the market, in significant growth in the state’s income, and in significant macroeconomic benefits, including employment of workers at a high wage in the southern region, a sharing of knowledge from the great expertise in the giant Intel corporation with various companies in Israel and their training to the highest standards in the world,” he added.

In a statement cited by Reuters, Intel credited Israel with playing a “crucial role” in the company’s global success.

“Our intention to expand manufacturing capacity in Israel is driven by our commitment to meeting future manufacturing needs … and we appreciate the continued support of the Israeli government,” the company said.

Israel Kills Islamic Jihad Terrorists in Fiery Jenin Raid… Media Fail to Report the Full Facts

Overnight, the Israeli military launched a counter-terrorism raid in the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday to arrest terrorists planning deadly attacks against civilians in Israel.

During the gunfight, at least four Palestinians were killed, including two who were almost immediately claimed by terrorist organizations.

Despite copious amounts of evidence confirming their membership in terror organizations — including photos and video — reports about the Jenin raid have shied away from identifying the men as terrorists.

In a recent interview, Trump said  if he was not combative he could not win because of the biased press.

In essence, there is much truth in what Trump says yet his combativeness and the way he expresses what he says happens, also, to be a turn off, particularly among the urban soccer elites.

Jewish teacher resigns after antisemitic harassment from 12-year-old student
By Yaron Steinbuch

A Jewish middle school teacher in Massachusetts has resigned after facing antisemitic harassment by a 12-year-old student – who allegedly made Nazi jokes and sent him a drawing of Adolf Hitler.

Morrison Robblee, 25, who taught social studies at Nessacus Regional Middle School in Dalton, told the Berkshire Eagle that the sixth-grader began making the comments after the teacher let his students know he is Jewish in February.

The child is now facing a misdemeanor charge of criminal harassment.

When Robblee tried to quiet his students one day, the boy began spewing homophobic slurs, so the teacher removed him from class, Insider reported.

School officials later held a “restorative circle,” in which the student, Robblee and an administrator reflected on the incident.

“The student didn’t actually say anything during the meeting,” Robblee told Insider. “That probably should have cued me that this was not going to end.”

In April, things took a turn for the worse after the teacher showed up in class wearing a yarmulke, a skullcap worn by observant Jews, for Passover – prompting the student to make hateful comments about it, according to the news outlet.

A few days after being sent to detention, Robblee said the boy gave him sketch of Hitler standing over a dead person labeled “Jew,” surrounded by swastikas and canisters labeled “gas.”

News outlet Insider said it has viewed the sickening drawing, which also featured the words “Sorry Jew,” in what the student said was an apology letter.

“He really wanted to get his point home,” Robblee told the outlet about the student, who was eventually suspended and removed from the teacher’s class.

But he told Insider that the harassment continued in the hallways and that the boy made jokes about the Holocaust, including gas chambers. He said the student also emailed him insults about his teaching.

The boy, who has not been named because of his age, faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal harassment.

Robblee said he filed a complaint with his union in May, citing an unsafe work environment, and told the Central Berkshire Regional School District in a letter that the boy would “further be at risk of a deeper radicalization of hate, one which will lead to violence,” the Eagle reported.

“I am not bothered by the ignorant comments of a child,” Robblee reportedly wrote in a statement to be read at a meeting to end the boy’s suspension. “I am bothered that, without proper intervention, this hate will continue to fester.”

The district later placed Robblee on administrative leave, citing the student’s allegations that the teacher made a face at him in a hallway, according to The Eagle.

Robblee told Insider that he stuck his tongue out at the student in a moment of frustration after the boy swore at him.

The teacher also was accused of speaking about the student in front of other children, but he denies that allegation, the paper reported.

He said he decided to quit because he didn’t feel like administrators took his concerns seriously.

“I take the keys out of my pocket, slide ’em across the table, and say, ‘There’s absolutely no way I am coming back to work in your school,'” Robblee told The Eagle.

Schools Superintendent Leslie Blake-Davis declined to discuss the incidents for confidentiality reasons, according to the outlet.

But she said the district handles incidents of hate or bias by first removing a student from a classroom for a due process probe while educational services are still provided.

The district then either introduces “accountable consequences,” such as detention or suspensions, or “restorative interventions,” such as anti-bias training, Blake-Davis told The Eagle.

If action is taken, parents are notified and the district will contact law enforcement if necessary, she added.

Blake-Davis said the district also seeks to introduce the No Place For Hate Club, a student-led initiative at Wahconah Regional High School, in the middle school.

“One of the things we found as a district that’s really empowering is to make sure we’re involving student voice and student leadership in this work that we do,” she said.

The Dalton Police Department filed the charge against the student in Pittsfield Juvenile Court, where pending a show-cause hearing, the court clerk will determine whether the case should move forward.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office said in a statement to The Eagle that it was working with the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Federation of the Berkshires to determine how to prevent similar incidents in the future.

DeSantis Team Destroys Newsom’s Leadership in California
By  staff

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his team responded to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s ongoing criticisms of Florida by highlighting California’s population loss. After Newsom challenged DeSantis to a debate, DeSantis urged him to stop hesitating and instead jump into the presidential race.

DeSantis pointed out the significant problems in California, such as those seen in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and the growing number of people leaving the state since Newsom took office. Despite California traditionally attracting people due to its appeal, DeSantis emphasized that the current governor has overseen a massive exodus from the state. DeSantis suggested that people are not moving from Southern California to places like Jacksonville solely because of the weather but rather due to the mismanagement and poor governance in California.

In response, the DeSantis War Room released an ad featuring news clips highlighting California’s problems, including population loss, homelessness, and rising crime. The ad also showcased positive developments in Florida, such as a significant decrease in crime rates and unemployment figures, along with Florida being the fastest-growing state in the nation. DeSantis attributed these positive outcomes to better governance in states like Florida and criticized the poor governance in left-wing states.

DeSantis expressed bewilderment at Newsom’s intense focus on Florida despite the problems in California. He urged Newsom to stop hesitating and either challenge President Joe Biden or refrain from criticizing from the sidelines.

Recent data reveals that California lost approximately half a million residents between April 2020 and July 2022.

My friend sends pictures: Slope Soaring ... for Dick

Slope Soaring ... for Dick
... a few days ago I got an email with photos from a friend on the east coast recounting the days that he and friends spent slope soaring RC gliders at Cape Cod ... well, I never did Cape Cod, but I did fly RC gliders on the bluffs overlooking the Santa Ana River and the beautiful Huntington Beach, beaches and the Pacific Ocean.

I wanted to send Dick a few photos of those days so I have been combing old and forgotten folders with scans from those days ... time got away from me so the length of the search has determined what will go out tonight. I always wanted to be a pilot, but those days were not here then ... I was busy running the family business and going to law school at night as well as coaching the Costa Mesa Synchro Sylphs synchronized swim team which Corky and I along with several other parents had formed. Flying the RC gliders was a great way of releasing stress and enjoying the days on the slopes.

In the top photo all was going well ... Corky and I had smiles on our faces and my sailplane was performing as it should ... then I brought it in for a landing and when slope flying that can be a bit of a trick with rotor type air behind the bluff face. The photo below shows my beautiful glider in a somewhat disassembled state after a crash landing ... fortunately my crew was there to give comfort and aid ... what fun.

Tomorrow night some of the photos doing slope soaring in the real thing ... that started at the other end of my career.

Last below, a photo of Corky that I found and have spent time working it up ... it was taken back in the mid to late 80's on a ferry to Denmark from Germany. We were with good friends and business partners. Fun times ... also fun to re-work old photos and colorize them.

Have a beautiful day and smile ... we are here and breathing!

Cheers,

Ted

To-morrow, O to-morrow!
Fast fall the fading years. A thought, a dream
Of gentle words; of faith and love a theme;
A smile, a step or two, and all is done.
Quick is the veering stream of life full run;
Yet in the crimson west still gleam
To-morrow and to-morrow's endless dream.
