Allen West Running For Governor of Texas. Personal Comments and Some Op Eds. No Self Respecting Fish. Stop The Bleating, Lay Down The Stolen Guns. Etc.

My dear friend and fellow memo reader is running for Governor of Texas.  He spoke for me many years ago and is articulate, patriotic and would make a fabulous governor.  He has my full support whatever that means. Go Allen

In 5 days we will begin our 44th consecutive year of a partial family gathering at Tybee.  It was begun by Lynn's folks when they began to have grandchildren and we continued it after they were deceased.  Over the years we have probably rented 10 or more different homes and until Lynn's brother and sister in law had their own children they always joined us. Our side of the family now numbers 28, soon to be 29 so it is impossible for everyone to co-ordinate their schedules nor can we afford to treat everyone so from time to time different members show up.  It keeps the older first cousins in touch since our entire family lives from coast to coast, north and south.

The cousins stay for a week after Tybee and attend day and tennis camp at The Landings.

Another tradition is visiting Lynn's aunt, in New York,  on her birthday. She is turning 99, mentally sharp as a tack and then we rotate Thanksgivings. This year it will be in Savannah.

Though I do not write memos during these times I generally do so prior to them and post sequentially so they arrive while I am away.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe 4th.

I am reading  "The FreeWorld
Art and Thought In The Cold War
By Louis Menard.

It was a birthday present from my former associate and is longer than books I normally read and a most interesting review of the cultural history of that period in America. Consequently I do not intend to devote time to many pre-Tybee memos so there will be gaps both before and after we return because the grandkids will be here for the camping week.  Lynn also arranged for me to take Blake to the Coastal Jazz Concert for a grandfather grandson evening.  He was into music lessons which Covid interrupted. His father, Brian, is getting quite proficient on the guitar. Stella and Dagny seem to prefer dance , singing and drama. Max continues to favor sweeping the floor.

I received several comments from family members and fellow memo readers that my 4th of July memo was a sullen downer. I just report and comment on the facts as I see them and I find it difficult to avoid or shut my eyes to the attacks by radicals who have wormed their way into our institutions with the intent of destroying our nation and how the Democrat Party has become one of the greatest threats to the nation's security and tranquility. Yes, POGO got it right when Walt wrote: "The Enemy Is Us."

Unworthy Americans

The New York Times has contributed, for decades, to that about which they complain.  The paper is no longer great or, worth reading from an editorial standpoint. They have done their best to attack the flag and what it stands for and their 1619 project is their final attempt to rewrite history according to their radical poisonous view. No self-respecting fish would want to be wrapped in the NYT's.

NYTimes sparks July 4 outrage by claiming American flag ‘alienating to some’
By Bruce Golding

The New York Times sparked fireworks with an Independence Day report on the political implications of displaying the American flag — just weeks after being forced to defend an editorial writer who said she was “really disturbed” to see Old Glory flown by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

The Times article — with the online headline “A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite” — suggests that Trump supporters have embraced the flag “so fervently” that liberals have “all but ceded the national emblem to the right.”

“Today, flying the American flag from the back of a pickup truck or over a lawn is increasingly seen as a clue, albeit an imperfect one, to a person’s political affiliation in a deeply divided nation,” the Times tweeted on Saturday, with a link to their piece, “A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite.”

In the piece, author Sarah Maslin Nir quotes a few individuals who believe that the flag has become so politicized that they now think twice about flying it outside their homes or businesses.

“What was once a unifying symbol – there is a star on it for each state, after all – is now alienating to some, its stripes now fault lines between people who kneel while ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ plays and those for whom not pledging allegiance is an affront,” Nir wrote.

She also quotes a Long Island farmer, Peter Treiber Jr., describing how he had to reveal his “liberal leanings” to strike a deal with a greenmarket customer who was leery because his family farm is marked by an old truck emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes.

“She said, ‘Oh, whew. You know, I wasn’t so sure about you, I thought you were some flag-waving something-or-other,’” Treiber said.

The article immediately prompted a fierce backlash from conservatives on Twitter, with city Councilman Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island ) accusing the Times of displaying political bias.

“Flying your flag is offensive you guys. #Happy4thOfJuly,” he tweeted, along with an American flag emoji.

US Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) tweeted, “Apparently loving our country’s flag is now offensive. Disgusting.”

And Erick Erickson, a Georgia-based radio host and Fox News contributor, invoked the Vietnam War-era slogan of “America, love it or leave it.”

“So so stupid. If the American flag offends you, move elsewhere,” he tweeted.

The controversy erupted less than a month after Times editorial board member Mara Gay told MSNBC that she was “really disturbed” to see flags bashing President Biden, supporting Trump “and some cases, just dozens of American flags,” flying from pick-up trucks during a weekend trip to Long Island.

In response to online attacks, the Times defended Gay’s remarks, saying, “Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag.

It is time for the black elite and those who have benefited from the opportunities America has presented to quit their moaning and groaning and for so many of their race to stop the stealing, lay down their stolen weapons and killing, get an education, get off their behinds, get a job, be faithful to those they impregnate and join in  in America's blessings.  They would be wiser to model themselves after Allen West than listen to the tripe of Vanessa, Cori Bush and their ilk.

If they truly believe half their crap then they need to pick up and go where they will find their nirvana.

PBS, Vanessa Williams spark backlash over ‘black national anthem’
By Patrick Reilly

PBS has sparked tense backlash with its decision to have Vanessa Williams perform the “black national anthem” during its July 4 coverage — with critics blasting the move as divisive and un-American.

Williams’ performance on the station’s annual Capitol Fourth program Sunday evening is intended to celebrate the recognition of Juneteenth’s establishment as a federal holiday.

“It’s in celebration of the wonderful opportunity that we now have to celebrate Juneteenth. So we are reflective of the times,” the actress and singer, who was the first black woman to win the Miss America Pageant, told the Associated Press.

“We are reflective of the times and I’m happy to be part of a tremendous show that the producers are aware and willing to make the changes that have happened within the past year and a half.”

Her rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” will not replace the US national anthem, which will be sung by Grammy-award winner Renée Fleming — but it has still bitterly divided people on social media.

Lavern Spicer, a Republican candidate in Florida’s 24th district, who is black, said the song could divide the country on a day people should be standing together.

“Vanessa honey, a BLACK national anthem is something a Black African Country would have, not a country like America that exists for everyone,” Spicer tweeted.

Author Tim Young echoed Spicer’s concerns, tweeting: “Nothing will unite us more as a nation than separate but equal national anthems…”

“This isn’t unity… it’s division,” Young reiterated in a follow-up tweet.

Former Weld County, Colorado deputy district attorney and Trump lawyer, Jenna Ellis, invoked the words of the Pledge of Allegiance to show her frustration.

“We are ONE Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL,” Ellis tweeted.

“We’re witnessing the unraveling of E pluribus unum in real time,” former CIA officer Brian Dean Wright fumed, referencing the traditional motto of the United States, which is Latin for “Out of many, one.”

“The consequences will be dire,” Dean Wright warned.

Other social media critics also railed against the decision to perform two anthems.

“I didn’t get the memo, we have a new anthem? And what was wrong with our original one?” one Twitter user responded to the announcement.

“What? I thought we were ALL Americans?! Now divided by color? What happened to one nation, under God, indivisible? Talk about dividing us…” another said.

Originally called “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the song was written by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in 1900 and was popular among Civil Rights activists in the 1950s and 1960s.

A Capitol Fourth will air on PBS from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EST.

The 41st airing of the celebration program will also feature Jimmy Buffett, Gladys Knight and Train.

‘Squad’ member blasts July 4 celebrations: ‘Black people still aren’t free’
By Samuel Chamberlain

Far-left Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), dismissed Independence Day Sunday as a holiday meant for white people before claiming: “This land is stolen land and Black people still aren’t free.”

“When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they’re referring to is for white people,” tweeted Bush, a member of the progressive “Squad” of lawmakers that includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

Bush, a Black Lives Matter activist who unseated longtime Rep. William Lacy Clay in a primary to represent her heavily Democratic district last year, previously used last month’s signing of legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday to push for reparations for slavery and defunding law enforcement.

“It’s Juneteenth AND reparations. It’s Juneteenth AND end police violence + the War on Drugs. It’s Juneteenth AND end housing + education apartheid. It’s Juneteenth AND teach the truth about white supremacy in our country,” she tweeted on June 17. “Black liberation in its totality must be prioritized.”

Bush’s July 4 tweet drew immediate backlash from social media users on the right and on the left.

“You make $175k a year of taxpayer money to rip the country’s people that pay your salary,” tweeted radio host Clay Travis. “Show me any unfree country in the world where that’s possible. You can’t.”

“I’m a 40-year-old American descendent of slaves,” tweeted author and cultural critic Thomas Chatterton Williams. “The year is 2021, and I have been ‘free’ my entire life.”

“America is so awesome even people who aren’t free can get elected to the United States Congress!” chimed in Georgia radio host Erick Erickson. “America F— Yeah!”

Also Sunday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) posted a rambling tweet diminishing the holiday.

“July 4th… & so, the Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal. Equal to what? What men? Only white men? Isn’t it something that they wrote this in 1776 when African Americans were enslaved? They weren’t thinking about us then, but we’re thinking about us now!”

In a follow-up tweet, Waters wrote: “Further, the Dec. of Ind. says we hold these truths to be “self-evident”… yet: -17 states have enacted voter suppression laws -Supreme Court gutted Sec. 5 of the Voting Rights Act -George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice. Need I say more?”

Former MSNBC host Toure echoed Bush’s statement, tweeting: “F–k Independence Day. Not only were we not free, the whole reason the Colonies wanted independence was because Britain was moving toward abolishing slavery. Why would Black people celebrate a day so wrapped up in our enslavement?” Toure included a link to an opinion piece he penned for the website The Grio headlined: “F–k Fourth of July: The only independence day I recognize is Juneteenth.”

Even The New York Times cast aspersions on one of the most important parts of the holiday Sunday, publishing a piece provocatively suggesting that Trump supporters have embraced the flag “so fervently” that liberals have “all but ceded the national emblem to the right.”

The Times published the piece weeks after editorial board member Mara Gay told MSNBC that she was “really disturbed” to see flags with slogans knocking President Biden, supporting Trump “and [in] some cases, just dozens of American flags,” flying from pick-up trucks during a weekend trip to Long Island.

The Times defended Gay’s remarks, saying, “Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag.”

The scolding appeared not to dampen the spirits of millions of Americans who took part in July 4 celebrations across the country, including at the White House.
