Dershowitz is surprised he is shunned by his own. He must have lived in the "Havahd Bubble "too long. He ought to know the minute he defended someone they did not abide they would turn on him. (See 1 below.)
I know most liberals believe if they think it, it must be so. They are very self-righteous, can do no wrong and are special because they "care." They hate being challenged and asked to explain because they are so touchy feely they believe they have no responsibility to be rational. Feelings are everything and feelings 'trump' everything.
They are loyal to their causes and if you veer they will turn on you in a heart beat. Alan is smart enough to understand this but also liberal enough not to have believed it could happen to him.
I am sorry he is being ostracized for being true to his beliefs and I respect his willingness to put principle over person.
Alan, you are welcome anytime to come and speak before the SIRC, stay at our home and enjoy the company of those who probably will disagree with your more liberal beliefs but will be very accepting of your right to express yourself. Call me anytime to arrange same 912 598 9251. I have invited Amy Wax to come and speak and she is leaning in my invitation's direction.
My previous speakers have been (in no particular order:) John Fund, Kim Strassel, Bernie Marcus, John Podhoretz, Elliott Abrams, Lt.. Col. Allen West and most recently John Bolton.

Ijust received and read the new edition of the "Naval ar College Review" and found the review of "Anatomy of Failure: Why America Loses Every War It Starts By Harlan Ullman. Th focus on wars America fought since WW 2 and the author offers three reasons:
a) Election of inexperienced, unprepared and unready to handle the difficult, if not impossible job, of being president.
b)The application of poor or simply wrong , strategic judgement in determining whether to go to war or to use force.
3) Lack of sufficient knowledge or understanding of the regions and conditions where force might be used guaranteed failure.
In each case the author discusses the failures of the various presidents involved.
I would add a fourth reason. When we have gone to war the presidents allowed politics to dictate and their decision making and strategy and thus, they never did what it took to win. There is no school for learning how to be president when it comes to war unless we elect a military person with actual experience. Eisenhower was the last president to fit that model. Truman was an artillery Captain, Bush a Naval Pilot, Carter a Submariner but Eisenhower was the only one who possessed the full degree.
My greatest concern regarding N Korea is that Trump will be played/duped as have his predecessors and therefore, might be forced to take action against N Korea because of the chess game's risks if he does not. I am confident he would allow the military more latitude than his predecessors but, in today's world, one can never ignore politics, social media impact and the meddlesome U.N.
The same might concerns well apply to Iran because Israel cannot, nor will not, allow Iran to reach the point where it can obliterate Israel.

I recently engaged in an e mail conversation with a Trump Hater who based his disgust on his feelings about Trump's character and behaviour. I sent him what, I consider, was a reasoned explanation of why I did not agree with him and ended as follows: "I still believe the world is a dangerous place and China ,Russia and Iran mean us no good so we must be prepared to either surrender or meet them in whatever way is required. I prefer the latter and it seems the former is the path of others.
I see nothing Trump is doing appears to be surrendering nor has he gone around the world apologizing . He believes, as president, he must do his best to make America first and I have no doubt he means that but might also make mistakes or even fail but he is trying his best. I hope he succeeds where others hope he fails and I do not want to be connected with those who want America to fail so they can regain power.
That is why Democrats force me to favor Republicans but I remain uncomfortable when it comes to politicians and parties. I continue to try and be a rational conservative,
Furthermore, I believe our constitution has served us well and when we stray too far from its intent we get in trouble. Some very bright men, in pantaloons and white head pieces, seem to know more than Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters and Ms. Pelosi.
Hope this is responsive to your e mail. Me"

Alan Dershowitz slams Martha's Vineyard liberals for 'shunning' him over Trump defense
By Alan DershowitzApparently Martha’s Vineyard is a safe space.
Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said last week that his defense of President Donald Trump’s constitutional rights led to him being “shunned” by his own friends at a high-end seasonal destination.
The famed lawyer lamented the efforts to eject him from his social life at Martha’s Vineyard amid his outspoken criticism of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the alleged collusion with Russia.
In an op-ed for The Hill, Dershowitz, a frequent guest on Fox News, said that though he’s politically a liberal Democrat who voted for Hillary Clinton in addition to contributing “handsomely” to her campaign, his defense of civil liberties that could benefit Trump is too much to swallow for his social circle.
“But that is not good enough for some of my old friends on Martha’s Vineyard. For them, it is enough that what I have said about the Constitution might help Trump. So they are shunning me and trying to ban me from their social life on Martha’s Vineyard."
“One of them, an academic at a distinguished university, has told people that he would not attend any dinner or party to which I was invited. He and others have demanded ‘trigger warnings’ so that they can be assured of having 'safe spaces' in which they will not encounter me or my ideas. Others have said they will discontinue contributions to organizations that sponsor my talks,” he added.
Dershowitz went on to compare his situation with McCarthyism in the 1950s, when many innocent people were perceived as being sympathetic to communist ideas and were subjected to job firings and blacklists.
“I never thought I would see McCarthyism come to Martha’s Vineyard, but I have. I wonder if the professor who refuses to listen to anything I have to say also treats his students similarly,” he continued. “Would he listen to a student who actively supported Trump? What about one who simply supported his civil liberties?”
Yet, Dershowitz remains defiant amid the efforts to ostracize him from public life. “I will not change my views as a result of these attempts to ostracize me, but there are some who may remain silent for fear of being shunned,” he wrote.
“Silence is not my style. Cowardice is not my philosophy. I intend to speak up when I disagree with Republicans, and I intend to speak up when I disagree with Democrats. Right now I am speaking up in disagreement with Maxine Waters. She — like those who shun me on Martha’s Vineyard — is part of the problem rather than the solution,” he added.
