Bret Stephens the political orphan.
I hope Bret reads the speech I wrote for Trump and which Trump will probably never give because it would be somewhat of a Mia Culpa regarding his harsher views on the subjects Bret has addressed. (Bret does get my memos and from time to time reads them.)
I have no disagreement with anything Bret longs for his Party to return to but , I believe, Trump was launched because The Republican Party became ineffective in pursuing its philosophy and along came Obama with his failed policies and conservative anger and frustration mounted.
Can the pendulum ever return to where it began from is the $64 question?
I am still voting for Trump because I believe Hillary is far more dangerous than Bret acknowledges and the rebuilding of Conservatism will be far less possible after 4 to 8 more years of Obama in a pant suit. If she gets the opportunity to select members of The Supreme Court it will be' tap city' for years and anything The Republican Party attempts to do will be erased. (See 3 below.)
Meanwhile, Erick Erickson describes how the election can be stolen. Either rustle up a bunch of voters and place them in swing states or use "Mercer Money" in conjunction with Trump's campaign that helps his alleged friends - the Clinton's.
The consequences may be the same but I do not believe Trump is a true shill for the Clinton's (See 3a below.)

My liberal friends, who think they are rational conservatives, cannot understand how I, or anyone else, can vote for Trump. They say a vote for Trump means I and his supporters no longer believe character counts and their responses goes downhill from there.
If my liberal friends believe Hillary has superior character then there is nothing left to say so I just shake my head in disbelief. If I cite the acts and comments that reflect Hillary's lack of character they respond that nothing has been proved to support my accusations because they believe, as she does, it is all a Right Wing Conspiracy as they cite McConnell's comments regarding Obama. At this point I realize my friends have a programmed answer for any comment, not based upon logical reasoning, and I turn the subject to Alabama Football. At least there is empirical evidence based on statistica I am on firm ground for asserting Saban could take his team to the top again.

1)The Brutal Truth
Thursday night there was somewhat of a ritualistic dinner held.
It was the Al Smith dinner, a white-tie affair, and a ritual that Presidential candidates, very late in the game, have usually taken part in. This year was no different, with both Hillary and Trump sporting their white-tie best.
But this is not your usual sort of passé thing. No, it's a benefit, and as are many benefits in New York it was stuffed with priestly types, and an extraordinary price tag -- but, as is frequently the case when there are so many with a priestly bent headlining the event the money actually goes to a decent cause -- in this case Catholic Charities. And, I might add, rumors are that they raised a record amount. Bravo.This dinner is in fact a roast, and The Donald went first. He served up a menu that began with some self-deprecating humor, as is the usual fare. But then, after getting the crowd nice and warm, with chuckles and even roars of approval, he dropped the hammer:
"Hillary is so corrupt -- She got kicked off the Watergate Commission. How corrupt do you have to be to get kicked off the Watergate Commission?"
It didn't end there, and there were boos. Of course there were boos: Trump was in a hard-left, hard-Democrat audience.
But Trump didn't use the night to level charges, he dropped truth bombs. That Hillary was fired from the Watergate commission isn't an accusation, it's a fact. That she and her campaign traded slurs against Catholics (and I remind you, this was a Catholic Charities event) in their emails isn't a charge either -- it is also a fact. Yet there she sat, in a room full of Catholic bishops and priests, raising money for Catholic Charities -- people who, by her own admission, she believes hold anachronistic beliefs that require an "Arab spring" sort of cleansing, and that's just what she thinks Government ought to actively promote -- under her administration, of course.
Donald didn't roast Hillary, he BBQed her. That Hillary had the audacity to show up for such an event after what she and her campaign have traded in emails about Catholics was the height of hypocrisy bar none, and Donald gave her no quarter. The audience was squirming, but that's what you have to do from time to time -- take that sacred cow up on stage, praise it, lay down a few laughs, and then show the world by giving a good yank on the cord that the reason it won "largest cow" at the fair is that someone stuck a 4" drain stopper up it's butt.
It's funny how, when nobody can cheat, nobody can get the questions beforehand because there aren't any, and you get the lectern to yourself for a few minutes you really get to find out who always seems to find a way to use marked cards at the poker table (begging the obvious question as to who their confederates are) and who plays chess -- a game where it's damn hard to cheat, and being able to think ahead of the other guy is crucial to success.
Trump has, through this campaign, showed that he's a grandmaster at laying traps and getting people to step in them. This makes thrice that he's managed to punk the news media, getting them to cover what they didn't want to not by lying to them but rather by leading them to believe through context that they were going to see something other than what showed up.Thursday night may have garnered Trump some boos in the room, but they were boos driven by discomfort of the truth being shoved in the face of so many who claim to wear a robe and stand for universal truth, given by God -- yet who have backed a candidate, publicly and otherwise, that has woven her entire professional and political life from a lie.
As we have all heard by now, according to Hillary, ardent of becoming National Basilisk, half of Trump’s supporters are evil and the other half losers, deplorables all. That is, she holds half of Americans in contempt. Unsurprisingly she said this in New York, which is barely America, and to a convention of sexual curiosities.
As she coughs, staggers, convulses, lies, pilfers, sells favors, and lapses into intermittent confusion, she still has the courage to tell America that she loathes half of it. That´s candor.

She is always mendacious, firmly in the pockets of Wall Street, the Neocon hawks, and the arms industry, never having accomplished anything on her own, always riding Bill’s coattails, having a disastrous record as Sec. of State, always for sale.

- Work with Congress to REPEAL and replace the disastrous ObamaCare legislation that is ruining American healthcare.
- Lift the radical Obama regulations on America’s energy industry to END our dependence on foreign sources and create new jobs here at home.
- Propose, pass, and sign into law a massive TAX CUT for all working Americans and unleash the jobs-creating power of our small businesses.
- NOMINATE Supreme Court Justices who will uphold the Founders’ Constitution and not legislate the liberal agenda from the bench, and…
- IMPOSE strict new ethics rules to restore the integrity of the Office of the Secretary of State.
Friend, you are going to be amazed what we will accomplish during those First 100 Days -- I promise you that you will be proud of your President again.

I grew up with parents who liked the old line that they didn’t leave the Democratic Pa r t y— the Democratic Party left them. My father’s political heroes were Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. My mother had been a campaign volunteer for Sen. Eugene McCarthy in 1968. But the party of George McGovern was not for them. As the left turned on “Amerika,” they kept faith in America.
Now it’s my turn to watch the Republican Party drift away. Whether the trend continues after the election remains to be seen, but already the GOP is largely unrecognizable to me. To see how far it’s fallen, let’s remind ourselves of where it once was.
Immigration: At a 1980 Republican primary debate in Houston, candidates George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan were asked whether the children of illegal immigrants should be allowed to attend public schools for free. Mr. Bush said they should. “We’re creating a whole society of really honorable, decent, family-loving people that are in violation of the law,” he lamented.
Reagan agreed. Instead of “putting up a fence,” he asked, “why don’t we . . . make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit, and then, while they’re working and earning here,they pay taxes here.” For good measure, Reagan suggested we should “open the border both ways.”
Where, in the populist fervor to build a wall with Mexico and deport millions of human beings, is that Republican Party today?
Trade: “It is the maxim of every prudent master of a family, never to attempt to make at home what it will cost him more to make than to buy,” wrote Adam Smith in 1776. “If a foreign country can supply us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it, better to buy it of them.” Two centuries later, Milton Friedman noted that trade protectionism “really means exploiting the consumer” by artificially limiting choice and raising prices for the benefit of domestic producers.
Adam Smith and Milton Friedman were once canonical conservative figures. Free trade was once a Republican conviction. In one of his final radio addresses as president, Reagan warned “we should beware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends—weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.”
Where, in the tide of Tea Party opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership and all those other “disastrous trade deals” that Donald Trump never fails to mention, is that Republican Party today?
Foreign policy: In 1947 Harry Truman asked Arthur Vandenberg, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to support his efforts to shore up the governments in Greece and Turkey against Soviet aggression. Vandenberg agreed, marking his—and the GOP’s— turn from isolationism to internationalism.
Since then, six Republican presidents have never wavered in their view that a robust system of treaty alliances such as NATO are critical for defending the international liberal order, or that the U.S. should dissuade faraway allies such as South Korea and Saudi Arabia from seeking nuclear weapons, or that states such as Russia should be kept out of regions such as the Middle East.
Where, amid Mr. Trump’s routine denunciations of our allegedly freeloading allies, or Newt Gingrich’s public doubts about defending NATO member Estonia against Russian aggression, or the alt-right’s attacks on “globalism,” or Sean Hannity’s newfound championship of WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange, is that Republican Party today?
Culture, civility and character: For decades, conservative publishers have issued a long succession of titles on the importance of personal character to the preservation of democratic institutions. Notable on the list William J. Bennett’s “The Book of Virtues,” whose first chapter deals with the importance of self-discipline. The former secretary of education followed that one up with “The Death of Outrage: Bill Clinton and the Assault on American Ideals,” timed to the Lewinsky scandal.
These books were not wrong. Character counts. The example set by a leader colors the culture of the company, institution or country he leads. We long for presidents who might follow Washington’s “Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior.” Rule No. 1: “Every Action done in Company, ought to be with Some Sign of Respect, to those that are Present.”
Where, in the apparently limitless forgiveness GOP voters are willing to extend to Mr. Trump for his public affronts to “that face” Carly or that “nasty woman” Hillary Clinton, is that Republican Party today?
I’ve become accustomed to the invariable gusher of letters that will follow this column, pointing out Mrs. Clinton’s well-known character flaws, along with apocalyptic visions of what her presidency might bring. Such deflections are the usual way in which people seek to justify their own side’s moral lapses. I don’t see the point of belonging to a party on the increasingly dubious assumption that it’s slightly less bad than the opposition. If I can’t get my Grand Old Party back, I’d rather help build a new one.
3a) Here Is How To Steal the Presidential Election
Stealing the Presidency is completely possible. We should examine what it would take to do it. The Trump campaign says the election is rigged and the Democrats are going to steal it. What would that look like?
For starters, it would not be just a wave of illegal aliens and Syrian refugees in one place. Remember, the Presidency is won and lost with the Electoral College, not the popular vote. Just ask Al Gore. So even if the Democrats flooded California with thousands of extra votes, it would not matter.
To steal the election, it must be stolen in swing states. Let’s look at what they would need.
With the exception of North Carolina, the swing states of Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, and Iowa all had their gubernatorial elections in off years, which tend to have lower turnout, and can therefore establish a good baseline of support for Republicans in statewide races at the top of the ballot. We need a baseline of support for who many people will turn out to see how many new voters Democrats must add, at a minimum, to steal the election. We need to focus on similarly situated races on the ballot because not all voters stick around down the ballot. To get that baseline, go see what Republicans got in their races in these swing states against their Democratic challengers. The difference is the number of votes the Democrats need to overcome the Republicans. Why? Because in each of these swing states, the GOP beat the Democrats. This provides us the absolute, best case, minimum number of additional votes needed for the Democrats.
In Arizona, the Democrats need an additional 178,141 votes to overcome the Republican baseline.
In Florida, it is 641,145 votes.
In Iowa, it is 245,245 votes.
In Nevada, it is 255,618 votes.
In North Carolina, it is 509,127 votes.
In Ohio, it is 935,489 votes.
In Wisconsin, it is 136,793 votes.
In just those swing states, Democrats would need to find a total of 2,901,558 illegal aliens, Syrian refugees, felons, and more to overcome the baseline vote Republicans get in those states for a statewide vote at the top of the ticket.
Now, assuming they can do that, they have another problem. In every one of those states except North Carolina and Wisconsin, the Democrats have to contend with a Republican Secretary of State. The secretaries of state in the fifty states oversee elections in those states and the state board of elections.
So if the Democrats tried to flood, for example, Ohio with an additional 935,489 registrations, they would trigger an audit by the Secretary of State to ensure no fraud was being committed. To get around that audit, the Democrats would have to provide forged records for the people that are acceptable.
If the Democrats can find 2.9 million new voters, strategically place them in the appropriate swing states to shift the Electoral College, and get them past the eyes of the Republican secretaries of state, then yes they could steal the election.
Oh, there’s one more thing.
There’d have to be coordinators among the Democrats to make this happen. Somebody has to be in charge of finding and placing the 2.9 million people. Let’s be charitable and say that is 20 people.
So on top of needing to find all the votes, get them placed in the various swing states for election day, get them through the audits and past the eyes of Republican elections officials, they would also have to ensure that 2,901,578 people can keep a secret, not to mention the forgers who forged the documents to provide the veneer of legitimacy.
Yes, it is possible that the election can be stolen. But if you believe it is going to be stolen I’ve got a bridge I’d like to sell you.
In the alternative, they could get a Democrat named Donald Trump to run as a Republican in a crowded field using Rebecca Mercer money without her realizing it, Breitbart “reporters”, and left wing activists to sabotage the rest of the field, hand Trump the nomination, and then let him run a disastrous campaign to ensure his friend Hillary wins.
