Hard to disagree with Sherwin's commentary were it a perfect world. However, the accumulation of failed past leadership often requires unorthodox leadership to get the train back on the tracks. I believe this is what our own country decided was the prescription when it elected Trump.

The Mythology of Voter Suppression
Democrats cling to the falsehood despite the election turnout facts.
The Editorial
Democrats picked up 40 House seats and nine governorships last year. We’d call that a good year. Yet during the debate Wednesday night the presidential candidates continue to flog the falsehood that Republicans stole the 2018 Georgia Governor’s race and are generally stifling voter turnout.
“Right here in this great state of Georgia, it was the voter suppression, particularly of African-American communities, that prevented us from having a Governor Stacey Abrams right now,” Cory Booker declared. Bernie Sanders claimed that voter suppression “cost the Democratic Party a governorship here in this state” by “denying black people and people of color the right to vote.” Pete Buttigieg opined that “partisan voter suppression . . . dictates the outcome of elections before the voting even begins.”
The facts are that Black and Latino turnout nationwide last year hit a record high for a midterm election despite voter ID requirements, registration checks, and limits on early voting in some states. Turnout increased 13.4 percentage points for Hispanics (40.4%), 11.4 percentage points for blacks (51.1%), and 11.7 percentage points for whites (57.5%) from 2014, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Democrats say Ms. Abrams, last year’s Democratic nominee for Governor in Georgia, lost because Republicans cancelled 1.4 million voter registrations. But federal law requires states to periodically remove names of registered voters who haven’t cast ballots in awhile to ensure the integrity of the vote. Only Georgians who hadn’t cast ballots in more than seven years and didn’t respond to notices to confirm their residency were removed.
This alleged voter “purge” had scant impact on minority turnout: A larger share of blacks (59.6%) voted than whites (56.1%) last year. Black turnout in Georgia increased 16.6 percentage points from 2014 versus 11.3 percentage points for whites, and Ms. Abrams received 90% more votes in Atlanta’s Fulton County than the Democrat did four years earlier.
Democrats also say Republicans in Georgia and some other states have limited early voting to make it harder for blacks to cast ballots. In 2011 Georgia cut early voting to 21 days from 45. Three weeks is ample time for anyone to cast a ballot, and a longer early-voting period means voters might miss information about candidates that emerges late in the campaign.
The people most likely to vote early tend to be more educated and have higher incomes, perhaps because they are more politically engaged. And folks in the South are 10 times more likely to vote early than those in Northeastern states. If Republicans conspired to suppress minority turnout, they failed.

3) How Leaders Fail Us
By Sherwin Pomerantz
The recently announced indictment of Prime Minister Netanyahu was both (a) a disappointment that what he is alleged to have done has led to this as well as (b) a testament to Israeli democracy that our judicial system actually works. Time will tell whether or not the evidence proves his guilt.
But one way or the other, the indictment of a country’s leader for bribery, fraud and breach of trust is, in itself, evidence of a failure of leadership.
One can ask, how do leaders fail? Clearly it is in one of three ways: they (a) can simply fail to lead, (b) can make good on all their campaign promises whether or not those are in the best interests of the country they lead and (c) conduct themselves in a manner that is dishonest by using their position for personal or political gain.
In Netanyahu’s case he fails primarily on the third point. There is no question, for example, that he has led Israel during his 10+ years Prime Minister. Israel has become a technological powerhouse, has a relatively prosperous economy, low unemployment, controlled inflation and a well-functioning democracy, at least by the standard in this part of the world.
For the most part he has also made policy decisions that are in the best interests of the country and has successfully kept Israel out of armed conflict with its neighbors. There have, of course, been mini wars on the southern border, sadly with casualties. Nevertheless, given the geographical area in which we live major conflagration has been avoided.
Where he seems to have failed as a leader is in the third category. That is using his position for personal or political gain. There is no point in this column to go into the specifics as they are well detailed in the charges which have been leveled against him. But, even if he is cleared of all charges, what has happened does not pass what the lawyers like to call “the smell test.” What he is accused of does not smell right and the stench is strong enough for the Attorney General to have issued the indictments.
Across the ocean there is a similar evaluation of leadership under way as the U.S. Congress moves forward with its investigation of whether or not to impeach the U.S. President. In that case it would appear that there is a suspicion of failure on both the second and third categories outlined above.
Clearly the Congress is investigating whether or not the President used his position for personal or political gain. Again, the simple fact that it appears to many that this is the case is, in itself, a failure of leadership. But there are also many in both houses of congress who believe that a number of decisions which have been made vis-Ã -vis U.S. foreign policy, while perhaps in keeping with the promises made during the 2016 election campaign, were not in the best long-term interests of the U.S.
Some examples might include the sudden agreement to withdraw American troops from Syria and give Turkey carte blanche control over the area under withdrawal, or the manner in which the President chose to interface with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, Russia’s Putin among others. He might well have been redeeming his campaign pledges but it is possible that such decisions were not in the best long-term interests of the U.S. Some would say that the same is true for some of the President’s decisions regarding Israel, that they were what he promised but……
I am reminded of someone who approached former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a complaint that he had promised to do a number of things when he was campaigning for office but when he became Prime Minister he changed course. Sharon looked the man squarely in the eye and said, “What you see from there is not what you see from here.” Sharon understood that the responsibilities of a candidate are different than those which control one’s actions once in office, given that in office much more information is available for consideration prior to making decisions.
It is, of course, a sad day in the history of the world when those of us living in Israel, a country which remains so dependent for its development on a good relationship with the U.S., to be in a situation where the leadership in both countries is under legal scrutiny.
In retrospect, former U.S. President and General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower said it best when he opined: “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” That statement should be framed and hung on the wall of the office of every country’s leader as a guiding principle of leadership. Would that it were so and that is admonitions were taken seriously.

4) Army Colleague Slams Democrats’ Star Witness as “Political Activist in Uniform”
4) Army Colleague Slams Democrats’ Star Witness as “Political Activist in Uniform”
In a very revealing Twitter thread last week, retired U.S. Army LTC Jim Hickman had much to say about a man he used to work with at Joint Multinational Simulation Center in Gnrafenwoehr, Germany. Hickman said that the public should be wary of taking Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman’s explosive impeachment testimony at face value, seeing as how the Vindman he knew was an Obama acolyte who wore his political motivations on his sleeve.
“Do not let the uniform fool you,” Hickman tweeted. “He is a political activist in uniform.”
Vindman was the subject of much media adoration last week when he reportedly told Congress that he raised internal “concerns” about the infamous phone call President Trump had with the Ukrainian president in June. Vindman insisted that the official transcript released by the White House was not entirely accurate, leaving out mention of several things that would have proved damning to the president. He could offer no proof that any of these things were actually said, though, and his testimony was largely refuted by other witnesses, including his former boss at the National Security Council, who testified that he didn’t believe “anything illegal was discussed” in the call.
Vindman has been made out to be a man of unimpeachable character by the media and the Democrats, but Hickman, his former boss at the JMTC, says that’s not the case.
“I know LTC Alex Vindman from a Combined US-Russian exercise called Atlas Vision [13] in Grafenwoher,” Hickman wrote on Twitter. “He worked with the Russian Embassy and I was assigned to the JMTC (Joint Multinational Training Command), within USAREUR (US Army Europe). He worked coordination w/the Russian 15th Peacekeeping Brigade, and I was in charge of all Simulations planning, as well as assisting the USAREUR Lead Planner as the Senior Military Planner.”
Hickman said that during his time working with Vindman, the Democrats’ star witness was “apologetic of American culture, laughed about Americans not being educated or worldly, & really talked up Obama & globalism to the point of uncomfortable.”
He continued: “He would speak w/the Russian Soldiers & laugh as if at the expense of the US personnel. It was so uncomfortable & unprofessional, one of the GS [civil service]employees came & told me everything above. I walked over & sat w/in earshot of Vindman, & sure enough, all was confirmed.
“One comment truly struck me as odd, & it was w/respect to American’s falsely thinking they’re exceptional, when he said, ‘He [Obama] is working on that now.’ And he said it w/a snide ‘I know a secret’ look on his face. I honestly don’t know what it meant, it just sounded like an odd thing to say,” Hickman recalled.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Hickman said that after hearing Vindman bash Americans to the Russians enough times, he took him aside and “verbally reprimanded him” for his lack of professionalism and patriotism.
“The bottom-line,” he wrote, “is LTC Vindman was a partisan Democrat at least as far back as 2013. So much so, junior officers & soldiers felt uncomfortable around him. This is not your professional, field-grade officer, who has the character & integrity to do the right thing. Do not let the uniform fool you…he is a political activist in uniform. I pray our nation will drop this hate, vitriol & division, & unite as our founding fathers intended!”
