I have not read a book for well over three months. Just have not been in the mood though I have been told of many excellent books I should read by friends.   I even have one from Stu Eizenstat, which he graciously inscribed, entitled: " Imperfect Justice." It is about his efforts to recover stolen art by the Nazi's and is most timely and, I am sure, an excellent read and I will read it next..

An artist friend of mine just wrote an autobiography and I asked his wife to send me two inscribed copies, one to read the other a gift to my friend Bill Eiland.

Over 50 years ago I purchased a water color by Rolland Golden from the Vincent Price Sears Collection. It was of his wife, Stella by a docked boat, entitled "Fisherwoman."  Stella is far more beautiful than Rolland painted her because he posed her as a salty fisher woman with strong, sharp features when, in fact, she is much softer and her red hair is more flowing than cropped.

About 9 or so years ago we visited Rolland and Stella in their Folsom , La. home ,  and I purchased a lithograph of an American Flag  hanging on a clothes line which he saw every day from above as he looked down from his atelier.

Roland maintained a gallery in The French Quarters for years and then moved to Folsom where they now live.

Rolland is still painting though he has some health issues.

His medium of choice is water colors but he has worked in oil and acrylic and has also done pen and ink, drawings and various print works.

Rolland's work is very real and his style very much distinctive.  Rolland has received many national and regional awards, even showed in Russia and I am working with Bill Eiland to see if we can do a show for this gifted artist.

Rolland's autobiography: "Rolland Golden" is delightful.  He writes with a direct style just as he paints and I  believe he has got me reading again for which I am grateful.

I am proud of all my children and grandchildren.  They are all good productive citizens and cotninue to engage in activities that help their fellow citizens.

I am particularly proud of daughter number two who was selected as one of Louisville's Top Volunteers several years ago. Amy has been involved in many activities: Casa, Home of The Innocents to name some  but the one she is most involved with is The West End School.  She has helped to raises tons of money for this unique school and the current  headmaster of The Savannah Classical Academy, Ben Payne, was their headmaster for years before moving to Savannah with his lovely wife, Amanda, and their two kids..

This video is worth clicking on and tells the West End story: http://vimeo.com/115022800

1)Raymond James' Saut: 'It's Too Late to Panic on Stocks'
By Dan Weil

A sharp correction may be in store for stocks, but now isn't the time to take money off the table, says Jeffrey Saut, chief investment strategist for Raymond James.

"It is too late to panic," he writes in a commentary. "The time to raise cash was a month ago, not now. Now it is time to make your shopping list, looking for the opportunity to selectively redeploy that cash into preferred equities."

The S&P 500 index has slid 2.9 percent so far this year.

Saut remains bullish on stocks long-term, despite concern that the market is oversold now. He cites Jim Rogers as a model for trading strategy.

"When asked how he made all his money, Jim Rogers answered, 'I sell euphoria and buy panic,'" Saut writes. "The way he determines that is to wait until prices are gapping in the charts. Gapping on the upside is considered euphoria, while gapping on the downside is representative of panic."

Right now oil and stocks are gapping down, while Treasurys are gapping up, Saut notes, adding that stocks are in a secular bull market.

Saut advises that "various stocks will make their lows at different times, so pick your spots carefully. Tactically, at least on a very short-term trading basis, many of my indicators are becoming oversold and it would not surprise me to see another bounce attempt off of some kind of low on Thursday. Unfortunately, I do not think any rally attempt sticks and we will subsequently go lower."

Urgent: Should Obamacare Be Repealed? Vote Here Now!

Meanwhile, Mohamed El-Erian, chief economic adviser at Allianz, warns that investors around the world are making assumptions about markets and economies that may be overly optimistic.

"I am taken aback by the extent to which the world has collectively placed a huge bet on three fundamental outcomes: a shift toward materially higher and more inclusive global growth, the avoidance of policy mistakes and the prevention of market accidents," he writes in an article for Project Syndicate

"Though all three outcomes are undoubtedly desirable, the unfortunate reality is that they are far from certain, and bets on them without some hedging could prove exceedingly risky for current and future generations."

2)  Prosecutor Dead; Charged Pres. Involved in Argentina Jewish Center Bombing Cover-Up

Argentine state prosecutor Alberto Nisman was shot dead just hours before he was going to testify to the Argentinian Congress on Monday, Jan. 19, that his country's president was directly involved in cover-ups to obscure Iran's involvement in the Buenos Aires bombing of the Israeli Embassy and Jewish Community Center.

On July 18, 1994, the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) building was bombed, killing 85 people and injuring hundreds.

Nisman was the special prosecutor on the case. In 2006 he formally accused the government of Iran of directing the bombing and the Hezbollah terrorist organization of carrying it out.

In May, 2013, Nisman released a report accusing Iran of establishing terrorist networks in Latin America dating back decades. That report provided evidence, he claimed, of an "intelligence and terrorist network" in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Trinidad, Tobago and Suriname.

Nisman further claimed that the evidence in his report proved "beyond a reasonable doubt" that former Iranian cultural attaché in Argentina, Mohsen Rabbani, was responsible for the 1994 AMIA bombing, and that he was the "coordinator of the Iranian infiltration of South America."

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has close ties with other Latin American leaders who are friends of Iran, but Nisman's claim last week that she was directly involved in the cover-up was a bombshell.

There were many irregularities over the years regarding the court case over the 1994 bombing. All the local suspects were found "not guilty," and the federal judge in charge of the case was later impeached and removed from his position for "serious" mishandling of the case.

Last week Nisman said during a radio interview that he had proof of the Argentine president's involvement in the cover-up. The assistance was provided, Nisman, said, because Argentina wanted to "establish full diplomatic relations, and, more importantly, a commercial trade due to the energy crisis that Argentina faced," the MercoPress, a South American news source, reported.

Nisman also explained that Argentina's former foreign minister, Rafael Bielsa, had received a proposal from the Iranians in which they offered "a very beneficial economic offer, in exchange we have to state that the prosecutor's complaint was all a mistake and void it."

During the interview Nisman also clearly stated that the former president, Nestor Kirchner, was adamantly against such a deal. The current president, widow of the former president, however, according to Nisman, was "the one who decided to give impunity to Iran, to exculpate" the suspects.

Nisman's decision to speak out publicly about his evidence against the president appeared to be motivated by the decision of the judge overseeing the case who refused to end the court's January recess in order to hear the accusations filed by Nisman.

A former judge on the case said the evidence to which Nisman had pointed was "flawed" because Nisman had not involved him in the wiretap decisions. Nisman's response was that he did not undertake any new wiretapping, "I simply worked with evidence collected along the way," theMercoPress reported.

Nisman was found dead of gunshot wounds in his home this morning.

'Hezbollah will find it hard to show restraint after Golan attack,' top Israeli ex-general says
By JPOST.COM STAFF
Israeli military officials are on high alert Monday in response to Hezbollah threats to respond to Sunday’s IAF helicopter attack on a convoy which killed at least six senior operatives.

Israeli military officials are on high alert Monday in response to Hezbollah threats to respond to Sunday’s IAF helicopter attack on a convoy which killed at least six senior operatives on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.

In an interview with Army Radio, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amos Yadlin, the former head of Military Intelligence, said that the Shi’ite group “will have difficulty absorbing an incident like this [without responding].”

“I don’t think this was an attack aimed at harming Hezbollah,” said Yadlin, who currently heads the Institute for National Security Studies. “I think this was a preemptive operation specifically targeting Hezbollah’s activities on the Golan Heights.”

Yadlin told Army Radio that in his estimation, Hezbollah has no desire to launch attacks against Israel from southern Lebanon. Instead, it wishes to exploit the vacuum that has emerged on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights since the escalation of the civil war there.

“Hezbollah has built an organization on the Golan Heights, and it seems that it is easier for it to operate from there against Israel,” he said. “Hezbollah is very active in Syria with its support for the Assad government and its war against Islamic elements like the Al-Nusra Front and Islamic State.”

“Hezbollah and [its secretary-general, Hassan] Nasrallah will have to consult with their Iranian masters and take into consideration whether a fierce response will drag the region into war,” Yadlin said.

When asked whether the attack on the Golan Heights was motivated by electoral considerations, as was implied by Maj. Gen. (res.) Yoav Galant, the former GOC Southern Command who joined forces with Moshe Kahlon’s Koolanu party, Yadlin dismissed the notion.

“I know this chief of staff [Benny Gantz] very well,” Yadlin said. “And I know the deputy chief of staff and the incoming chief of staff [Gadi Eizenkot]. These are responsible professionals. If they approved this operation, I believe that there wasn’t an iota of political motivation involved.”

Yadlin acknowledged that he has been contacted by numerous political figures who offered him a spot on their party lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections, including the joint Labor-Hatnua movement, but that, for now, he is content to remain the head of a think tank.

EMET is Gravely Concerned by the Intimations and Nuances of President Obama's Accusation to Senator Menendez and demands Clarification and an Apology

Today, the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) deplored President Obama's echoing of a classic anti-Semitic slur while attempting to cast aspersions on the courageous actions of his fellow Democrat, Senator Robert Menendez. EMET also called on President Obama to immediately apologize to his fellow Democrat.

The incident occurred in a closed door Democratic meeting in Baltimore, which was reported in the New York Times
President Obama and Senator Robert Menendez traded sharp words on Thursday over whether Congress should vote to impose new sanctions on Iran while the administration is negotiating with Tehran about its nuclear program, according to two people who witnessed the exchange.  In the course of the argument, which was described as tense but generally respectful, Mr. Obama vowed to veto legislation being drafted by Mr. Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey, and Senator Mark Kirk, Republican of Illinois, that would trigger sanctions after multiparty talks are set to end this summer…According to one of the senators and another person who was present, the president urged lawmakers to stop pursuing sanctions, saying such a move would undermine his authority and could derail the talks…The president said he understood the pressures that senators face from donors and others, but he urged the lawmakers to take the long view rather than make a move for short-term political gain, according to the senator. Mr. Menendez, who was seated at a table in front of the podium, stood up and said he took “personal offense.”  Mr. Menendez told the president that he had worked for more than 20 years to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions and had always been focused on the long-term implications. Mr. Menendez also warned the president that sanctions could not be imposed quickly if Congress waited to act and the talks failed, according to two people who were present.

It is a well-known fact that anti-Semites frequently claim that American Jews control U.S. politicians through the use of money, such as campaign donations. This is part of the classic anti-Semitic canard that Jews control the world through their money. For the President of the United States to echo this claim is, thus, not only a personal insult to his fellow Democrat, Senator Menendez, but also a shockingly incendiary and irresponsible statement in general. President Obama must know that anti-Semites both within and without the United States will repeat this charge ad nauseam, and use it as "evidence" for their conspiratorial delusions that American Jews control U.S. foreign policy.
Ironically, this statement from President Obama came just three days after the Iranians announced the building of two new nuclear power plants in the Bushehr region of Iran, indicating that the nuclear talks with Iran have done very little, if nothing, to freeze the nuclear enrichment program of Iran. By using this language, President Obama has deftly but erroneously implied that the issue of Iranian nuclear weapons is simply a Jewish, or pro-Israel issue, which it is not. Iranian leaders frequently condemn and promise to destroy both the United States of America as 'The Great Satan,' and Israel as 'The Minor Satan.' A nuclear Iran puts at risk the Sunni Arab states, and all of Europe, and particularly the United States. In addition to the frequent Iranian threats issued against these nations, the Iranians are currently working on long-range ballistic missile systems that would only be necessary against Europe and the U.S.

Sarah Stern, Founder and President of EMET, said "For the President of the United States to personally insult his fellow Democrat and give aid and comfort to anti-Semites everywhere by echoing their arguments regarding Jewish donors controlling politicians is incredibly disturbing and irresponsible. First of all, it is a well known fact that the Iranians consider America 'The Great Satan,' Israel is only 'The Minor Satan." The Iranians are working on an extensive ballistic weapons program, with the hope of eventually reaching our shores. President Obama is the one who is actually looking for a quick foreign policy victory in a nuclear deal with Iran, which would, at best, only constitute a Pyrrhic victory, as the Iranians have made it clear that they are using the negotiating time as a smokescreen under which to advance their nuclear program. The Joint Plan of Action was supposed to have frozen all work. In fact, last Tuesday, the Iranians announced that they are building two new nuclear reactors."
She continued, "Senator Menendez should be greatly commended for looking out for the long range national security interests of the United States, as opposed to the short term interest of President Obama for a quick deal which the Iranians have demonstrated that they have no intention of keeping. Beyond that, President Obama must understand the danger of using such loaded language, and he should immediately apologize to Senator Menendez, as well as the the Jewish community, and retract his statement."

5) Reverend Al Goes to Hollywood!
By Bernard Goldberg

I don't know about you, but I think Al Sharpton gets a bad rap.

The guy can't do anything without conservatives jumping all over him. Even when he does something clearly worthwhile, all he gets is grief from Whitey.

Take Sharpton's latest attempt to make America a better place. He's called for an "emergency meeting" to deal with the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Everybody knows Hollywood liberals hate black people but apparently Al Sharpton is the only one who has the guts to say it out loud.

The issue is the Academy Awards, where each year beautiful white people get all dressed up and tell each other how wonderful they are. Turns out that all the nominees for best actor this year are white; all the nominees for best actress … white; all the nominees for best director — white again. In the past two decades this has only happened one other time.

As Sharpton — President Obama's go-to man on race — so elegantly put it: ""The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets." There are rumors that Sharpton soon will hold another "emergency meeting," this time in Aspen, to deal with another issue involving diversity. The working title of the meeting is "Why the hell is snow always white?"

Sharpton might have called for an emergency meeting to deal with fatherlessness in Black America, where the out-of-wedlock birth rate is north of 70 percent. He might have called for an emergency meeting to deal with the disproportionately high number of black kids who drop out of high school. He might have called an emergency meeting to deal with black crime, whose victims are overwhelmingly black people.

But there are just so many hours in the day, so Al had to prioritize. Memo to Whitey: Lay off the Rev, a man who never lets an opportunity (to stoke racial tensions) go to waste.
