Mother's Day Greeting. President Day Speakers - Trials and Tribulations. Biggest Real Estate Deal Ever. Democrat Obstructionism Imploding?

Once again, to all my many girl friends who happen to be Mothers, the Happiest and Best ever of Mother's Days and many more healthy ones.

I read this after I posted my previous memo regarding Rubin's video. Had I done so earlier, I would have posted it as an addendum to my own comments about stifling free speech etc. (See 1 below.)

Did Professor Dershowitz join Rubin?

Though I am no longer on the board of the SIRC, I committed to helping them get speakers for their President's Day Dinner  Program

Recently, I approached Walter Williams, Professor of Economics, at George Mason to speak at the 2019 President's Day Dinner and he turned me down blaming it on TSA procedures.  I believe it was his in-artful way of saying no and I re-plead my case but to no avail.

Williams is a version of Tom Sowell when it comes to a black conservative (Uncle Tom according to progressives) telling his people what they do not want to hear. I believe it goes even deeper because I do not think most black citizens even understand what Williams and Sowell have been telling them and how valuable the advice..

I am currently  trying to get Devin Nunes, Ken Langone and Dana Perino as well as professor Amy Wax. All, for different reasons, would make wonderful speakers, in my humble opinion.

We have had some great speakers, the last being Amb. John Bolton. Since  I have little leverage  I always enlist God's help and so far God has come through but each year it is back to prayers.

I always ask those who have come for any ideas/help regarding future speakers and they have always been gracious and some have been very effective in putting me in touch with prospects. Anyone who thinks I was able to get Amb. Bolton on my own is smoking something.

Those who have come to speak have also been exceedingly generous with their time and those who have attended these dinners truly are indebted to Kim Strassel, John Fund, John Podhoretz, Lt. Col Alan West, Bernie Marcus, Elliott Abrams and, of course, Amb. Bolton.  So wish me continued luck.

I even tried to get Peggy herself but she claimed to have had a conflict. My effort to get Noonan is not over.

Many years ago I tried to get Justice Thomas and, having a law degree, I decided to write my request in the form of a legal brief.  He demurred.  Such is life. (See 2 below.)

Obviously I read much more than I post.  If you are interested in a web site that posts articles on what others think about America you might find "Watching America.com" of interest.  It is full of articles written by foreigners about us .

Finally, I am leaving Wednesday for a trip to Louisville to be at the shower of our  granddaughter who is getting married in The Highlands in August. From there we drive to Litchfield Beach for our annual (25th year) beach vacation with friends (family) from our Atlanta neighborhood days - Majeska's, Hamilton's, Davidson's and Hudnall's.  Our kids,(except for one) are all married and all have children (except for one)so they no longer are able to  come. We must do a last hurrah one day and get everyone re-united.

A normal day consists of tennis/golf, beaching, biking, shopping, reading, eating and playing a game before we retire.I read an article about an art show for Normal Rockwell in the WSJ today. Were he alive he would have painted us. In many ways he actually already did.

Trump pulls off largest real estate deal ever. (See 5 below.)

And

Finally, stop and think about this.  No one political party could ever have enough money in their coffers  to own the editorial boards of the New York Times and Washington Post as well as own the control rooms of the major TV stations in the U.S, yet the Democrat Party has and they still lost.

Stop and think, Obama had all of this in his pocket along with a pen and phone and now his entire legislative program has been shredded. Why? Is it because he decided to operate outside Constitutional boundaries?  Is it because he shoved it down the throats of common sense Americans because he was intellectually superior and arrogant?

Hillary inherited all of what Obama and the Democrat Party controlled and yet she went down in defeat to a political novice? Why? There has to be a reason beyond the fact that a bunch of deplorables did not believe her, found her insincere.

If  Trump's White House can stay focused, continue to accomplish the "impossible" because of their un-traditional methods and the Republican Party can nominate rational candidates, not off the charts, while their entire ranks run in a cohesive and co-ordinated manner against the lunacy and obstructionist policies of  Schumer, Pelosi, Warren and Waters etc.  along with  their friends in the press and media, Republican prospects, for retaining control of Congress. and even improving their numbers. are not outside the realm of possibility. Why?  Because the behaviour of the Democrats is energizing the Republican base and beginning to turn off independents they need.

Still too early to tell but the trends are beginning to shift towards Republicans and the Democrat strategy of  Schumer and Pelosi obstructionism is imploding.

The Trashing of George Mason University

The left gangs up on the school for having conservative professors.

By The Editorial Board
Progressives dominate all but a few corners of American academia, but apparently they want it all. Witness the political and media assault on George Mason University, an island of intellectual diversity in Northern Virginia that has committed the sin of accepting money from conservative donors.
A public university with some 36,000 students, George Mason has made a mark in economic debates through its Mercatus Center. This has caught the attention of an outfit called UnKoch My Campus, which claims that donors like Charles and David Koch inappropriately influence university decisions. The demand is for “transparency” but the real goal is to silence conservative views.
George Mason recently released hundreds of pages of public records in response to requests by Transparent GMU, the local UnKoch affiliate. They include contracts and correspondence related to a $30 million donation in 2016, the largest in school history. Ten million dollars came from the Koch Foundation, and $20 million from an anonymous donor represented by attorney Leonard Leo. Mr. Leo is also a vice president of the Federalist Society, the non-secret network of conservative lawyers.
Cue the outrage. Among the horrors supposedly uncovered by UnKoch is that one condition of these gifts was that George Mason rename its law school after Antonin Scalia. UnKoch wants everyone to know that the Great Scalia was “one of the most ideological and polarizing Supreme Court Justice [sic] in history.” OMG, as the kids say. The New York Times ran a nearly full-page story on the documents
The truth is that the naming request and decision went through normal university channels that included a vote by the university’s Board of Visitors, as well as the State Council on Higher Education for Virginia. Liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Scalia friend, also approved.
UnKoch has also hyped correspondence between George Mason’s law school and the Federalist Society as something nefarious. The emails include Mr. Leo’s recommendation of a prospective student and discussion of candidates for professorships. UnKoch is aghast that a law professor and Mr. Leo would discuss federal clerkships for alumni who are current Federalist Society members. Don’t universities want their graduates to succeed?
UnKoch has also seized on now-obsolete gift agreements between the Mercatus Center and George Mason’s economics department. Signed between 2003 and 2011, they gave the Koch Foundation a minority role on committees that make recommendations about candidates for George Mason professorships and for Mercatus Center positions funded by its gifts.
This non-scandal gets worse. A 2009 gift agreement between George Mason and the Mercatus Center outlined the terms for a Koch-funded chair, and it states that “the objective of the Professorship is to advance the understanding, acceptance and practice of those free market processes and principles which promote individual freedom, opportunity and prosperity, including the rule of law, constitutional government, private property and the laws, regulations, organizations, institutions, and social norms upon which they rely.”
We should hope so. Donors are committing no crime in trying to judge if their philanthropy is fulfilling its purpose. The Kochs, God bless them, believe in supporting academics who believe in the principles of liberty and market economics. While they can’t and shouldn’t dictate what any professor writes, professors who believe in free markets will tend to support those principles.
The contracts explicitly stipulate that “the final say in all faculty appointments lies in specified GMU procedures, involving academic approval and final approval by the Board of Visitors.” But if George Mason chose to hire academics like the prolific Donald Boudreaux because he believes in advancing free-market ideas, so much the better.

***

All of this UnKoch nonsense is part of the left’s attempt to stifle conservative ideas in the guise of an attack on “dark money.” The Kochs are so “dark” that the progressives decided to use their name. And speaking of dark money, UnKoch My Campus isn’t a nonprofit and doesn’t file regular financial disclosures.
Researchers from Stanford, Harvard and the University of Chicago Law School found last year that only 15% of American law school professors are conservative. We’re surprised it’s that many. The good people at George Mason should go on taking money from the Kochs and anyone else it wants, and tell the UnKochs to harass somebody who deserves it, like that progressive icon, Eric Schneiderman.

2) Wisdom of a Non-Idiot Billionaire

‘I saw Bernie Sanders and the kids around him,’ says Ken Langone. ‘I thought: This is the antichrist!’

By  Peggy Noonan

An occasional preoccupation in this space is that young people have no particular loyalty to or affection for free-market capitalism, the economic system that made America a great thing in history and a magnet for the world. There are two reasons. One is that in their short lives they’ve witnessed and experienced only capitalism’s scandals—the 2008 crash, inequality. The other is that they’ve never heard capitalism defended—not in K through college, not in our entertainment culture. When you don’t especially admire something you feel no inclination to protect it, which will have serious political implications down the road.
We should all make the case for capitalism, especially our idiot billionaires and especially those in Silicon Valley. Some, by which I mean Mark Zuckerberg in particular, act as if America is special mostly because it provided a stage for their fabulousness, otherwise not much. During a hearing last month Sen. Dan Sullivan referred to Mr. Zuckerberg’s dorm-room invention and said: “Only in America, would you agree with that?” Mr. Zuckerberg seemed taken aback and mumbled around. “You’re supposed to answer ‘yes’ to this question,” Mr. Sullivan explained.
But let’s get to a non-idiot billionaire. Ken Langone, 82, investor, philanthropist and founder of Home Depot , has written an autobiography that actually conveys the excitement of business—of starting an enterprise that creates a job that creates a family, of the joy of the deal and the place of imagination in the making of a career. Its hokey and ebullient name is “I Love Capitalism” which I think makes his stand clear.
Why did he write it? I asked him by phone. He wanted to show gratitude, to inspire the young—“If I can make it, everyone can!”—and he wanted young voters to understand socialism is not the way. “In 2016 I saw Bernie Sanders and the kids around him. I thought: This is the antichrist! We have the greatest engine in the world.” The wealthy have an absolute obligation to help others: “Where would we be if people didn’t share their wealth? I got 38 kids on Bucknell scholarships. They’re all colors of the rainbow; some are poor kids, rough around the edges. It’s capitalism!” He famously funds NYU/Langone Medical Center.
He worries about the future of economic freedom and sees the selfishness of some of the successful as an impediment. “Are there people who are greedy, who do nothing for anyone? Yes.” They should feel shame. If the system goes down they’ll be part of the reason. “But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!”

3) What the $*&@: Did the FBI Have a Mole on the Trump Campaign?!

According to Strassel’s Wall Street Journal piece:

The department knew full well it should have turned this material over to congressional investigators last year, but instead deliberately concealed it.

House investigators nonetheless sniffed out a name, and Mr. Nunes in recent weeks issued a letter and a subpoena demanding more details. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s response was to double down—accusing the House of “extortion” and delivering a speech in which he claimed that “declining to open the FBI’s files to review” is a constitutional “duty.” Justice asked the White House to back its stonewall. And it even began spinning that daddy of all super-spook arguments—that revealing any detail about this particular asset could result in “loss of human lives.”

4)  First regarding prostate cancer—I am completely cured. I would recommend the 5 day radiation treatment to anyone who is qualified by their doc to get that as an alternative to surgery.  It is not available for everyone, but rad is way better than surgery if you have a choice. It is essential to get the gel insertion if you do go for rad. Anyone who has a question feel free to email me.

Although oil has moved above $70 for now, it is unlikely to go a lot higher. The administration can, and likely will, release oil from the reserves to contain prices if the price gets too much higher. If oil goes much higher, then alternatives like electric cars and smaller cars become more in demand, keeping a lid on price of oil. The Saudis will make up any shortfall from Iran. US fracking is continuing to ramp up rapidly, and at $70 it will move even faster so long as the pipelines can get built and opened in sufficient capacity to handle it, and labor can be found to drill Experts believe there is about a $5 risk premium in the oil price right now that will not be sustainable. The US is closing in on becoming the largest oil and gas producer in the world.  All due to fracking. For those who tried to stop fracking- most Democrats- reality is, fracking has totally changed the US position and economy. We have the lowest energy costs in the world which makes a very big difference in inflation.  It also means the US is now in a position to manipulate the Arabs because we don’t need them. A total shift in geopolitics. puts the US in a power position we never had before.

Jamie Dimon predicts the 10 year is headed to 4%. It probably is, but when is the issue. Next year is probably when. That means big losses in bonds for those holding them in their portfolio. Banks report there is a notable decline in loan requests now, especially for home mortgages, even though on a historic basis, mortgage rates remain very cheap. 8% once was very attractive.  It is hard to know if there will be 3 or 4 Fed raises this year. Powell is a businessman and not an economist, so he is more attuned to not cutting off the economic growth than maybe pure economists are. No way to predict the number of raises now, but for sure if you hold bonds you will lose principal.

There is about $1 trillion of dry powder sitting with private equity funds.  This is $3-4 trillion of acquisition buying power with typical leverage. There are hundreds of millions more of unspent capital sitting with Apple and others that had parked it offshore. The US dollar is rising, so foreign investors will be incented to bring money here. There is a flood of unspent capital sitting available to go into the US market thru M&A, and directly into the stock market. Companies have huge capital available to invest in capital goods. At the same time, the economy is continuing to grow well. The equity markets have more upside with the economic growth, and all that idle capital, and the strengthening dollar.

Trump did exactly the right thing on the Iran deal. Now there is no question the US is back leading the world and Trump will do what he thinks is best for the US no matter what Merkel and Macron think. The era of Obama weakness is ended now. That matters.  You do not control world events nor win battles by being weak and foolishly thinking the world’s bad guys really respect nice diplomatic discussion vs threats to blow then off the map by a guy who they now know might just do it. Trump is also really willing to walk away from the table. He and Pompeo are not Obama and Kerry desperate to do a deal. The though approach of Trump and his unwillingness to publicly lay out a predictable strategy, are actually great assets in this game. The left, and the establishment , simply does not understand the tough way, and they think it is lacking a strategy. They simply have been politicians too long, and do not get it. There is a strategy, and it is executed based on keeping the opposition off balance and unsure what is coming next. The liberal establishment just instead defaults to-- Trump is chaos and there is no strategy. With the new defense budget, and Mattis in charge, the bad guys now all know we will rebuild our power, and have the willingness to use it. We proved that in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. That is a basic shift in geopolitics, and will shift the entire negotiating position of the US. Now Merkel and Macron have to believe Trump will place secondary sanctions on European companies doing business with Iran. That is something the politicians of the past would never imagine doing. The US can, and will shut down the banking system for transactions with Iran, as he did with N Korea. It is not coincidence we are now pursuing Iran once it looks like N Korea might be willing to get rid of their nukes. It is all tied together in a major step by step strategy. If Trump really succeeds in getting Kim to really get rid of the nukes, (a big if) then the EU has no argument in regard to sticking with the Iran deal. It is almost certain the CIA and Mossad are now going to step up major efforts to get Iranians to again protest and build toward a regime change over the next few years. Once full sanctions bite on the Iranian economy, they will suffer badly on top of an already weak economy. Now the Iranian people will see that not only did the regime spend on military and not the economy, but it will now bring on much worse economic pain. If the EU works with Trump and Pompeo, there will be enormous new pressure building up on Iran, and neither the Chinese nor Putin can bail them out. The more Trump demonstrates he is willing to defy Merkel and do what he thinks is right, the more Putin has to rethink his strategy. World power and leadership is all about overwhelming military strength and willingness to use it, and not caring what the EU thinks. Obama was the opposite, and we see the result. If you have not seen Darkest Hour, you should, and learn that Chamberlain and the isolationists in the US in the thirties led to the disaster of WWII. And with all of this the Dems want to derail the approval of the new head of the CIA?????

I am sure some of you who hate Trump viscerally will dismiss the following which is fine, but the source is impeccable. There is a lot we do not know about what is going on, but this guy really does.

A friend of mine is a professional soldier, was a true hero company commander in Vietnam, an intelligence agent working closely with CIA, and was the top military officer in Lebanon when the marine barracks was attacked, Hezbollah attacked his car in Beirut and tried, but failed, to kidnap him, he was a White House military attaché under Regan, is now an advisor to Saudi intelligence on security for their embassies across the world,  and is an advisor to the US State Department on military and intelligence matters. His brother in law was US Ambassador to Qatar. He is in constant contact with the top national security people in the White House, as well as top intelligence and military people in the US government, and with top level Saudis and others. He knows more about what is really happening in the Mideast than most anyone. Surely far more than any of us. He is a totally nonpartisan military and intelligence professional. He has no political bias or connection, and no connection to Trump or the administration other than as an intelligence professional and advisor to the State Dept.  His objective report on the Trump move to end the Iran deal: His view: 1. Trump did exactly the right thing on the Iran agreement, and it was a brilliant move at this time, Nobody else could have pulled this off 2. He believes Obama was “clueless” about the real world. He believes Obama was the worst, most dangerous president in history. 3. Trump pulled off a spectacular accomplishment in N Korea that no politician could ever have done, 4. by taking on N Korea first, Trump created strong credibility with the EU and Iran, as well as the rest of the world. Trump told the Europeans, “you have done nothing to bring peace and agreed to a terrible deal with Iran, and now I have accomplished the impossible in N Korea. “ My friend believes only Trump could have walked from the Iran deal successfully. 5. In the opinion of my friend, the world is now dramatically changed, and Trump is solely responsible. (Moon you will note gives Trump sole credit for getting N Korea to the table). He has also changed the entire relationship between Israel and the Saudis and the Arabs for the good. They now work very closely together, much more than ever under Obama.  There was a bike race in Tel Aviv a week ago. Arab teams from several countries participated. That never happened before. 6. Trump has now changed Mideast geopolitics such that the Palestinians are essentially cut off from most funding, and they are on their own with almost no financial support. The Saudis now realize they are far better off to work with Israel than the Palestinians. My friend believes the Palestinians will have no choice but to begin to move to other places in the Mideast. There will be no peace deal with Israel. The Palestinians now have no support from the Saudis or  Gulf countries for any sort of military attack on Israel. Israel won, the Palestinians lost the long term battle.  It will be messy, but the end is inevitable. 7. The Iranian economy is dysfunctional now, and there is great discontent among the people before Trump puts the sanction screws to them. He believes the Iranian economy cannot withstand full sanctions, and Trump is exactly right to reinstate them, just as he has done with N Korea. Because Trump now has high credibility for his strategy based on N Korea, he has a lot of ability to push on Merkel and Macron. He believes Trump will say to the EU “how can you work with and support a regime (Iran)  that has worked with the regime that has committed genocide in Syria. Where is your moral compass? “ He credits Trump for all of this, and he is not a Trump supporter. His is a purely professional view.  He said similar to what I have been saying- it took a rough and very different type of tough guy to successfully deal with the real bad guys.

The press, Dems and talking heads have no idea how this is possible because it shows Trump actually has a potentially highly successful, and historic foreign policy, and it is completely outside the establishment and left wing mantra. Those people think you have to continue the old style diplomacy which has failed miserably.  Trump believes you smash the other guy in the face, and threaten to kill him,  and then see if they wants to talk. For the moment Trump’s way is working. The Obama way was a horrible failure. Power, and the willingness to use it, wins. My friend believes the things Trump is doing  changes world history. My view is, it changes the November election if the economy remains strong. The Dems are now only 3 points ahead in polls re November election.

Now it has just become known that Eric Schneiderman was working with Strozk and Page to be ready to charge anyone Trump pardoned, but at the state level. We are already seeing it in San Fran with the 9th circuit. It seems the left is willing to defy the US Constitution on free speech and now separation of powers.

5)President Trump to Announce Sale of California....

PRESIDENT TRUMP ANNOUNCES SALE OF CALIFORNIA TO MEXICO

At 12:15 pm  today President Trump disclosed that he has reached an agreement with Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico, which provides for the sale of substantially all of the State of California to the country of Mexico.  President Trump noted that this deal, which he claims “is his largest real estate deal ever” is a win-win for everyone involved.  One of the benefits he says he will highlight during a prime time address from the oval office later this evening, will include using the proceeds received by the US from Mexico to 1) pay for the Wall (fulfilling yet another campaign promise), a wall which will now include the length of the eastern border of California, 2) fund all the infrastructure spending in the remaining 49 states and 3) pay to relocate the estimated 67 Republicans that currently reside in California. He also noted that Federal money saved from the reduction of California citizens on US-funded social programs will allow those social programs in the remaining 49 states to be cash positive in less than 3 years.

Mexican President Nieto announced that he has already introduced a bill to the Mexican Congress asking to change his country’s name to MexiCal.

Other benefits President Trump intends to discuss during this evening’s prime time address include:

California will now be able to act as a sanctuary state within MexiCal noting that there is much more room for the illegal aliens currently residing in the USA who will find the climate in the State of California much more desirable than the climate in US cities such as NYC, Detroit or Chicago and they are encouraged to relocate to MexiCal.

The elimination of the existing border between Mexico and California will allow drugs to flow freely between the former country of Mexico and their primary customers/users in Hollywood.  Drug tunnel diggers at the Tijuana border will now be able to use their skills to dig tunnels under Los Angeles to help ease congestion in that city which will allow rioters to move about the city’s universities more freely.

As a bonus, the U.S. taxpayer will no longer be on the hook for any future disaster relief required once the next megaquake hits the former California.

The space in the Capitol and other DC buildings vacated by former representatives of California will be fumigated and turned into “time-out rooms” for the press as well as Liberty Centers wherein US citizens can meet with their congressmen to discuss the pursuit of regional issues requiring their attention.

Nancy Pelosi released a statement stating that she looks forward to making the Mexican President’s life miserable and she actually prefers the year-round weather in Mexico City to that of DC.  Her office has already announced a schedule of fund raising activities for what is believed to be an upcoming campaign for her to run for President of MexiCal.

Papers released along with Trump’s statement reveal that a newly incorporated Mexican real estate company, pmurT, Inc., which was intimately involved in the deal discussions, will receive a broker's fee of $25 billion on the California sale.  An anonymous pmurT, Inc representative has revealed that the profits on the deal are HUGE and will be used to purchase, develop and convert all abandoned former US Federal facilities in California into special high end retreats and resorts which will assist MexiCal residents with managing their euphoria and transition into the nanny state they have so long desired!

The exact northern border of the new MexiCal is still under negotiation.  Apparently the White House is concerned that certain members of Congress may be unwilling to give up California’s wine country and are suggesting that in order to buy their votes, the northern border should align with the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Negotiations are underway.

ALL former US citizen California residents "in good standing" will be issued special blue cards allowing them to cross the border into the US so that the total number of California liberals entering the US can be tracked at any point in time and may not exceed very small predetermined levels. As noted above, former US Residents that remain in California after the effective date of the sale will be required to recant their US Citizenship.   Upon loss of US Citizenship, ALL USA Federal benefits shall cease, including Federal Civil Service Pensions, Medicare, Military retirement benefits, and ALL Pensions and Benefit Programs previously funded by the US Government!
Additionally, those that refuse and who elect to remain in MexiCal, will LOSE (in addition to their US Citizenship) will be permanently barred from seeking future  refugee status in the USA.

All former US Corporations headquartered in California/MexiCal will be afforded a one-time only "free pass" to relocate back into the contiguous 49 states.  They will be given a 24-month "window-period" in which to relocate.  Should they NOT elect to relocate, at the end of the 24-month period each and all of their products/ services will be immediately subjected to a 25% import tariff into the USA!

Mexican President Nieto stated he is thrilled with the deal and is looking forward to declaring Spanish the national language for his newly acquired territory and opening SSF (Spanish as a First language) schools throughout California (An effort that is seen as basically symbolic).  He also noted that funding for the transaction would primarily come from the Mexican drug cartels, which have agreed to provide low interest loans to Mexico so long as they are allowed to move their cash out of Switzerland and the Cayman Islands back into Mexico tax- free. The cartels believe that the now unfettered flow of drugs into the former California is an annual boost to their profits in excess of $100 Billion! President Nieto  also said he considers the fact that a Disney park will now be located within his country is an added bonus.

White House representatives refused to confirm rumors that a similar deal was in the works for the sale of Northeastern states from NY through Maine, to Canada.

President Trump wrapped up his statement stating, “this deal is HUGE and will help Make America, albeit a little smaller, Great Again”.
