I am constantly asked by my Christian friends why are Jews Liberal considering the fact that they are generally sound business people, are mostly educated and even the Old Testament delivers a conservative message when it comes to how to conduct oneself and live one's life.
Though, I believe there are many answers, I generally refer them to Norman Podhoretz' book: "Why Jews Are Liberal." In it, Norman explains most liberal Jews know little about their religion and basically substitute politics for their religion.
There are many other reasons. Another I would add, is liberalism demands being emotional rather than logical. Conservatism often entails deprivation, denial and balance and revolves around the phrase: "there is always a price to pay."
Now that Trump has won, and one might say conservatives rule Congress, this article, from an Israeli and former member of The IDF, might be something to read and think about.
There is always another side if you are willing to listen and reason.
Supporting Israel and its relationship with America is a win win and not an act of disloyalty. Sitting on a North Viet Nam anti-aircraft gun, burning an American Flag, rioting in the street and stealing from your fellow citizens etc. are acts of disloyalty.
What is taking shape, from my perspective, is the following:
a) I have no animus towards Muslims.
I simply point to facts. Radical Muslims hold beliefs that are not democratic and radical Islamic terrorist activities is causing a great deal of tragedy world wide. I see no end in sight.
Muslims, as evidenced by the recent episode at Ohio State, may not be radical but, over time, see more prone to becoming so and the current Obama Administration appears either to ignore this fact and/or has been unwilling to ascribe a name to them. Though Obama's presidency will soon end its influence will remain and will continue to impact policy.
b) As soon as Israel was lawfully established the nation was attacked and has been repeatedly attacked. Because Israelis have been victorious the attitude toward Israel has shifted from one of sympathy and support to one of disdain and hostility because the world loves and supports the "victim." Israel lost the propaganda war years ago. The Palestinians are now portrayed as victims but of course they are victims of their own mis-deeds and unwillingness to live in peace. To do so would result in diminished funding which has enriched their corrupt leadership and provided them with the wherewithal to continue their attacks. Even after Israel gave back Gaza - no strings attached- the attacks continue.
c) The U.N. and its various agencies are populated, and many controlled, by Arab members and the U.N has proven, time and again, to be biased towards Israel. Up to now, America has used its U.N veto to thwart increasing efforts to brand Israel unfairly.
d) Obama has proven a mixed blessing when it comes to America's strong relationship with Israel. He has been willing to assist Israel with a variety of military supplies and development of defensive programs but has been less than forthcoming in his support of Israel and has an openly hostile relationship with Netanyahu, Israel's Prime Minister. Obama continues to use the "settlement" issue to badger Israel in justification of his diffident attitude.
e) The Democrat Party has moved very far left and may select a radical Muslim Rep. in Congress to lead The DNC. One cannot deny Obama has had a significant influence over his party in terms of his pro Muslim policies or reluctance to take a strong stand against the spread of Islamic terrorism.
f) Funding of Islamic Institutes on college and university campuses world wide, by the Wahabi element of The Saudi Royal Family, has resulted in the spread of Anti-Semitism, as disruptive Muslim influence on American campuses has reached a fever pitch. Liberal academicians and university administrators have gone out of their way to lend support to these anti-Democratic and Bill of Rights abuses. Recently a private college removed The American Flag from its campus and its president refused to respond to questions about his decision.
g) As various nations respond to Muslim immigration, caused by the instability in The Middle East, these recipient nations have become subject to increasing radicalization, wanton terrorist killings and attacks and the demographic trends are most unfavorable.
h) In America, resistance to demands of allowing an increase in Muslim immigration has been characterized by a variety of negative labels. Perhaps the recent election results represent an awakening to the fact that the coalescing of various events, some of which I have enumerated above, have run their course. Time will tell.
i) Meanwhile, I do not believe anti-Semitism is likely to subside and should Rep. Ellison become head of The DNC, I suspect it will become a more contentious fact of life and eventually a threat, not only to America's Jewish population, but also, because of Iran and N Korea's nuclear ambitions and Obama's lack of leadership, if not actual assistance, but also to general world peace.
j) What I am building a case for is the world is facing a very subtle Muslim Trojan Horse that has far reaching implications and that I doubt is fully understand by our various and diverse societies and the world at large. Until we do grasp the enormity of what is happening we should proceed slowly and embrace policies we can never reverse.
I believe the Democrats have it wrong. I believe Hillary's approach toward increased immigration was wrong.
It is time to do it right for the benefit of "all humankind" and

For most American Jewish liberals, November 8 was not only a watershed election, but a day in which the music died. They have been left speechless and silent, unwilling to fathom the implications. These liberal Jews have become disoriented and unsure about what to do and what to say; they seem to be suffering from a bad case of PTSD (Post Trump Stress Disorder). For many of these liberal Jews, they are slowly waking up to a new reality of losing their political clout, being left out of the multiple loops of power and access to the White House. They have been demoted to the rank of irrelevancy.
Betting on the wrong horse is always a wrenching experience. Over the past eight years, liberal Jews supported and abetted a president and a Democratic Party that was overtly anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian. During this period, Islamic terror attacks have spread throughout America, and anti-Semitism has blossomed in America’s universities and campuses, poisoning the minds of America’s future political and business leaders. This is real anti-Semitism, not the made up anti-Semitism associated with the emerging Trump administration. In recent years, Jews have been attacked and vilified at levels never seen before in recent history. All this didn’t matter; the Democratic Party was a sure bet as far as they were concerned.
Jewish liberals became drunk with Jewish power. In a wide variety of domestic spheres – immigration and refugee policy, civil rights and affirmative action, abortion rights, church-state separation issues – Jewish liberals became major players, helping to make the rules and call the shots on matters from health care to zoning.
It was during these eight years that Jewish liberals felt free to preach and moralize to us Israelis publicly about how Israel conducts itself nationally and internationally. Many Jewish liberals freely accused Israel of being non-democratic verging on Apartheid, they demanded of Israel to agree to political concessions that clearly endangered Israel’s national security; they funded and lead many of the organizations that spread the poisonous message of Jew-hatred by the BDS movement. It is easy to see why a Jewish liberal never saw it coming, actually believing that the invented narrative of BlackLivesMatter and transgenderism and Obamacare and unrestricted immigration is actually good for America. Donald Trumps’ election might well signal the beginning of an era in which Jewish liberals refrain from preaching and moralizing to us as if they have a monopoly on social justice and truth.
This interesting parallel of how Jewish liberals have distanced themselves from mainstream America and Israel equally is also the key to undoing the trauma of the election. For starters, despite years of dismissive rhetoric and holding Israel to a double standard, never demanding a similar standard from Israel’s enemies, has also spilled over to Jewish liberals’ attitude and support for movements and policies that have been rejected by the majority of the American public. Now that the liberal ideology in America has lost its grip on the White House, with right-wing governments being voted in throughout the Western world, with the continuing re-election of a right-wing government being repeatedly led to electoral victory by Benjamin Netanyahu, now is time for Jewish liberals to take one step back and question many of their givens.
For many years, Jewish liberals have blamed Israel for the daylight between themselves and the State of Israel. It never occurs to them to question their own values and behaviors such as their decision not to engage with organized Jewish communal life, or belong to a synagogue, or never visit Israel, let alone marry out of the Jewish religion. Maybe these might explain less attachment or the lack of any special feelings toward Israel and the Jewish nation.
A similar blind spot surfaces when Jewish liberals deny the election results and embrace leftist progressive movements in the United States. The delegitimization of the results of Democratic elections, the arrogant use of arguments about "saving" America from itself, and about organizing "sane liberal forces" to fight the "darkness" that is creeping into America’s "soul," are all essentially two sides of the same liberal coin.
Jews rise or fall together. For Jewish liberals, the quickest path to overcoming their collective PTSD as a result of the election of Donald Trump might well be defined by their attitude toward and affiliation with the State of Israel. With the Democratic Party moving left and expected to be led by a known anti-Semite and supporter of the Hamas terror group, maybe this is the needed signal to question if the Democratic liberal path is still the path needed to be taken by Jewish liberals in America.
So, rather than engaging in rhetoric that gave American Jews an excuse to distance themselves from Israel, now is time to embrace Israel and reaffirm their affiliation and sense of belonging to the Jewish nation. Likewise, embracing America, the Democratic process, and American exceptionalism is just one step away.

THESE STATEMENTS AND COUNTLESS OTHERS SHOULD CONCERN DNC OFFICIALS BEFORE CHOOSING A LEADER EARLY NEXT YEAR. ANY CHAIRPERSON'S JOB WILL INCLUDE EFFORTS TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THE PARTY'S SUPPORT FROM AMERICAN JEWS.

1a) The Real Anti-Semitism to Fear Daniel Greenfield
After years of studiously ignoring it, dismissing it, whitewashing it, excusing it and even justifying it, progressives have rediscovered anti-Semitism. With this amazing archeological find the intrepid Indiana Jones’ of the left dug up anti-Semitism, brushed it off and put it up on the shelf right behind Islamophobia, transphobia, racism, homophobia and sexism (in that order of importance).
Anti-Semitism on the left has been abruptly transformed from an excuse that Jews use to silence discussion about whether the Jewish State should be nuked or merely boycotted, to an issue worthy of concern. Assorted liberal celebrities with Jewish last names have surfaced to voice amazement that they had “not expected to see anti-Semitism return in my lifetime.”
As if anti-Semitism had been vacationing in the Alps until it came to their attention. The truth is that anti-Semitism never went anywhere. The left just endorsed it. And therefore it ceased to be a bad thing.
There was plenty of anti-Semitism to find even on the local college campus. Almost every synagogue I have been to in the past few months has armed guards outside giving visitors the TSA treatment. Jews are fleeing to America, Canada and Israel from major European cities because of Muslim persecution. The largest Jewish population in the world faces an endless war against a genocidal ideology that not only calls for their extermination, but works toward it, from suicide bombers to nuclear weapons.
But there is a progressive gentleman’s agreement not to discuss that real wave of anti-Semitism which has cost thousands of Jewish lives and ethnically cleansed cities because of the left’s complicity in it.
The recent interest in anti-Semitism across editorial pages and social media carefully avoids discussing the anti-Semitic past of Keith Ellison, progressive favorite for DNC chair, and his time with the anti-Semitic Nation of Islam cult whose ugly views and hatred he had defended. The left isn’t interested in Muslim anti-Semitism. It is greatly interested in discussing and promoting a small group of loathsome neo-Nazi trolls who recently held a conference in D.C. attended by a few hundred of history’s losers.
1b) POLITICS
What should a political party that has just lost its white working-class, blue-collar base to a “make America great again” nationalist do to try to regain these voters? Why not appoint as the new head of the party a radical left-wing ideologue who has a long history of supporting an anti-American, anti-white, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam racist? Such an appointment will surely bring back rust-belt voters who have lost their jobs to globalization and free trade! Is this really the thinking of those Democratic leaders who are pushing for Keith Ellison to head the Democratic National Committee?
Keith Ellison is, by all accounts, a decent guy, who is well liked by his congressional colleagues. But it is hard to imagine a worse candidate to take over the DNC at this time. Ellison represents the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party, just when the party — if it is to win again — must move to the center in order to bring back the voters it lost to Trump. The Democrats didn’t lose because their candidates weren’t left enough. They won the votes of liberals. The radical voters they lost to Jill Stein were small in number and are not likely to be influenced by the appointment of Ellison. The centrist voters they lost to Trump will only be further alienated by the appointment of a left-wing ideologue, who seems to care more about global issues than jobs in Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Ellison’s selection certainly wouldn’t help among Jewish voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania or pro-Israel Christian voters around the country.
Ellison’s sordid past associations with Louis Farrakhan — the long time leader of the Nation of Islam — will hurt him in Middle America, which has little appetite for Farrakhan’s anti-American ravings. Recently, Farrakhan made headlines for visiting Iran on the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution where he berated the United States, while refusing to criticize Iran’s human rights violations. Farrakhan also appeared as a special guest speaker of the Iranian president at a rally, which featured the unveiling of a float reenacting Iran’s detention of 10 U.S. Navy sailors in the Persian Gulf.
In addition to embracing American enemies abroad, Farrakhan has exhibited a penchant for lacing his sermons with anti-Semitic hate speech. Around the time that Ellison was working with the Nation of Islam, for example, Farrakhan was delivering speeches attacking “the synagogue as Satan.” He described Jews as “wicked deceivers of the American people” that have “wrapped [their] tentacles around the U.S. government” and are “deceiving and sending this nation to hell.” Long after Jesse Jackson disavowed Farrakhan in 1984 as “reprehensible and morally indefensible” for describing Judaism as a “gutter religion,” Ellison was defending Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam in 1995 as a role model for African-Americans, calling him “a tireless public servant of Black people, who constantly teaches self-reliance and self-examination to the Black community.”
In anticipation of a Trump loss, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts professed that anything other than graceful acceptance of the loss would “threaten democracy.” But now that Trump has won, the left has hypocritically become unhinged. After violent protests, petitions to eradicate the electoral college, and coddling college age students to miss class, delay exams and obtain psychotherapy to deal with the “trauma” of the election results, liberal political elites are in fear that the left will at last, calm down and accept the results. They cannot accept such complacency.
Democrats got defeated in a sweep across the nation, with Republicans winning over two thirds of the governorships and making a record number of wins in state legislatures, 32 of which will have Republican control in both of their legislative chambers. But this isn’t enough to convince far leftists like Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein, that those who are upset by the results should just get a grip and learn to accept them. After all, every election, there is a winner and a loser. That’s our system. Instead, Stein is demanding recounts in several key blue states that have swung in favor of Trump this year. In order for the results to yield a different outcome, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan would all have to be overturned. That is not going to happen. Despite Stein’s efforts, the result is a foregone conclusion: Trump will still be President.
This is how it works: if the states are within a very small margin of error, the recounts in some states are automatic and free (meaning the candidates do not have to pay for a recount). That did not happen in any of the states at issue. Therefore, Jill Stein, who is obviously not in the running no matter what, had to file a lawsuit in Wisconsin to get the recount and pay for it herself. The legal basis on which she stated the recount should proceed was something to the effect of “possible hacking” into the machines. Unfortunately, this has been granted and so will be recounted. Stein has raised at this point $6.5 million dollars to go toward the recounts. She is also requesting recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

A 2010 AUDIO OF ELLISON SPEAKING AT A PRIVATE FUNDRAISER OBTAINED BY THE INVESTIGATIVE PROJECT ON TERRORISM CALLS SUCH PRAISE INTO QUESTION. IN A FAIRLY INTIMATE SETTING, ELLISON LASHED OUT AT WHAT HE SEES AS ISRAEL'S DISPROPORTIONATE INFLUENCE IN AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY. THAT WILL CHANGE, HE PROMISED, AS MORE MUSLIMS GAINED POLITICAL INFLUENCE:

THE FUNDRAISER FOR ELLISON'S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN WAS HOSTED BY ESAM OMEISH, A PAST PRESIDENT OF THE MUSLIM AMERICAN SOCIETY (MAS) WHO WAS FORCED TO RESIGN FROM A VIRGINIA STATE IMMIGRATION PANEL IN 2007 AFTER AN EXCLUSIVE IPT VIDEOTAPE SHOWED HIM PRAISING PALESTINIANS FOR CHOOSING THE "THE JIHAD WAY ... ALSO PRESENT AT THE FUNDRAISER WAS NIHAD AWAD, A CO-FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COUNCIL ON AMERICAN-ISLAMIC RELATIONS (CAIR), AND A MEMBER OF A MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD-CREATED HAMAS SUPPORT NETWORK IN AMERICA KNOWN AS THE PALESTINE COMMITTEE.
ELLISON'S COMMENTS ABOUT ISRAELI POLITICAL INFLUENCE DO NOT APPEAR TO BE A POOR CHOICE OF WORDS. A YEAR EARLIER, AS CONFLICT RAGED BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS IN GAZA, ELLISON TOLD AL JAZEERA THAT "THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A STRONG SYMPATHY FOR THE ISRAELI POSITION DOMINATE THE CONVERSATION. IT IS REALLY NOT POLITICALLY SAFE TO SAY THERE HAVE BEEN TWO SIDES TO THIS."
A MONTH LATER, ELLISON TOLD THE BBC THAT OUTREACH TO HAMAS WAS NOT FEASIBLE FOR A MEMBER OF CONGRESS – NOT BECAUSE IT IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION WITH AN ANTI-SEMITIC CHARTER DEMANDING ISRAEL'S DESTRUCTION – BUT BECAUSE IT IS TOO POLITICALLY RISKY.
"WHAT I CAN TELL YOU NOW IS THAT THE CONSTELLATION OF POLITICAL FORCES IN THE UNITED STATES AT THIS MOMENT WOULD MAKE A MEMBER OF CONGRESS WHO HAS REACHED OUT DIRECTLY TO HAMAS SPEND ALL THEIR TIME DEFENDING THAT DECISION AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH OTHER CRITICAL ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE FOCUSED ON. 2) Lessons from “America’s Game” for the Democrat Party…and all America
Those of you who know me know that fall is always my favorite time of the year. I am one heckuva college football fan. Sadly just last week, my Tennessee Volunteers went down to our in-state rivals, Vanderbilt. But that is what you have to love and admire about college football - the odds NEVER make sense, and the passion of young men on the field can win the day over the statistics.
Many of you enjoyed a blessed Thanksgiving last week, and a huge part of that was the final week of rivalry football games, which often pit family members against each other. Take games such as Florida-Florida State, Alabama-Auburn, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Mississippi-Mississippi State, South Carolina-Clemson, Virginia-Virginia Tech, and the vaunted “civil war” between Oregon-Oregon State, just to mention a few. I know, folks want me to list Harvard-Yale. These contests bring out our most passionate emotions for four to five hours. But in the end, we all come together - perhaps after taking a ribbing for losing.
But there is one game, reserved for its own very special day at the end of the college football season, which is one of the greatest of rivalries. It is a game that has earned the moniker “America’s Game." It is Army versus Navy.
The first Army-Navy game was played on November 29, 1890 and it has been renewed annually since 1899 except for the years 1909, 1917, 1918, and 1929. The game normally decides the winner of the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy. Right now, Navy enjoys the longest winning streak in the series; 14 consecutive victories – and as a Soldier, well, that one hurts. This year on December 10th, it will be the 117th playing of this game. Even though I am not a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and have never attended an Army-Navy game, I am an American Soldier. On that day, I am a Black Knight of the Hudson.
I remember when I was a Captain in the First Infantry Division, one of my Lieutenants was on the West Point football team that upset the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Of course, he did not let me forget that, and I still gave him a favorable efficiency report. When I resided in South Florida, it was as if every former Naval officer had retired there. The abuse was incessant, and lasted all year long.
See, for that period of time, and the homemade commercials attest to such, these two services are the most vehement of adversaries. We live by a simple chant, “Go Army, Beat Navy," and vice versa. On that playing field, young men pour their hearts out to win more than a game; to win that claim to fame. Living here in Dallas now, I recall the time when I was invited into the home of Roger Staubach and actually saw the Heisman Trophy he was awarded when he was quarterback at the Naval Academy. The point is that we don’t have to have attended either of these fine institutions to have an affection, and strong emotion, for this contest.
And it is a hard fought contest indeed. From the time when you have the march onto the field of the Corps of Cadets and the Midshipmen, American’s chest fills with pride. They fight hard, but in the end, one will be victor, the other loser – and we Soldiers are tired of losing. However, something very indicative of America happens at the end of the game. Each school stands in reverence as the Academy song is played, winner goes last. But even more so, these rivals, these ardent adversaries will one day take an oath, “To support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign, and domestic…and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same." These gridiron warriors then become American Warriors. They never forget their years at West Point or Annapolis as a defining moment in their character development. But they realize that they are Brothers and Sisters on a greater team: Team America. And so they take their positions, jointly, upon freedom’s rampart to serve and protect our way of life, and the very document that embodies us as Americans. Sure, every year they will take their respective sides on the esteemed day of Army-Navy. But they will NEVER lose focus on the battlefield upon which they serve together.
Just like an Army-Navy game, this election was fought with immense passion and emotion. It is now time for us to realize that we are all on Team America.
That is an important lesson for the Democrat party to embrace at this time. If anyone thinks we Soldiers like the results of the past fourteen years, losing to Navy, we don’t. However, we lick our wounds, bandage up our pride and know that we have earned a title that can never be taken away, that of American Soldier. The real victory comes not just in a game, but in the preservation of this Constitutional Republic.
Those who call themselves Democrats, actually progressive socialists, must ask themselves the same question. Is this about the preservation of our Republic, or just the desire to win? All of these protests, challenges to our electoral system, and calls for recounts seem ill-advised, especially as the results are known, and concession has been offered.
Imagine what would happen at the end of the Army-Navy game if the Cadets of West Point decided not to stay on the field while the Navy song is played? We, as a Nation, would be appalled at the lack of decency, honor, integrity, humility, and grace. If those young men and women, who are the best amongst us, can do just that, why can’t the Democratic party? Unless they are admitting that they do not possess those same impeccable standards of character.

Just like an Army-Navy game, this election was fought with immense passion and emotion. It is now time for us to realize that we are all on Team America.
That is an important lesson for the Democrat party to embrace at this time. If anyone thinks we Soldiers like the results of the past fourteen years, losing to Navy, we don’t. However, we lick our wounds, bandage up our pride and know that we have earned a title that can never be taken away, that of American Soldier. The real victory comes not just in a game, but in the preservation of this Constitutional Republic.
Those who call themselves Democrats, actually progressive socialists, must ask themselves the same question. Is this about the preservation of our Republic, or just the desire to win? All of these protests, challenges to our electoral system, and calls for recounts seem ill-advised, especially as the results are known, and concession has been offered.
Imagine what would happen at the end of the Army-Navy game if the Cadets of West Point decided not to stay on the field while the Navy song is played? We, as a Nation, would be appalled at the lack of decency, honor, integrity, humility, and grace. If those young men and women, who are the best amongst us, can do just that, why can’t the Democratic party? Unless they are admitting that they do not possess those same impeccable standards of character.

This weekend are the college football conference championship games. The following weekend is a game where every young man on that field is a champion, the Army-Navy game. These young men and women are our future leaders and they represent a lineage; a legacy of service, sacrifice, and commitment to this Nation. The players’ uniforms will have the patches of Army, Navy, and Marine Corps units. The back of the Army jerseys do not have a name; it just says “Army."
