Standard Mea Culpa and A Brilliant Observation. Why Trump and Not Hillary! A Respected Savannah Liberal Who Cannot Shake His Bias.

New symbol?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I caught a mea-culpa discussion of why the elite missed and/or mangled their predictions regarding our recent election.

Most followed the general pattern about why the media are blamed etc.  I paid little attention to those who offered their explanations because they took the usual defensive path.

There was one observation, however, that was very insightful. The reporter pointed out, at the depth of the recent depression, when vast numbers of Americans lost their homes, the real estate market in D.C help up fairly well because government never shrinks etc. What this reporter was alluding to is those in government live in a protected bubble, do not experience what those they are hired to serve do and thus become distant.  Americans understand we need government but resent what government does to us, how it impedes our freedoms, impacts our lives in so many negative ways and how bureaucrats spend our hard earned tax dollars in total disregard of their trusteeship.

Trump, voters hope, being from outside government  (the establishment) and a businessman he will be able to rectify/modify the more oppressive aspects of government.  At least that is their hope. Time will tell whether Donald and this Republican Congress can accomplish why they were elected and rejected Hillary, who voters had every right to distrust.

Hillary demeaned far too many voters. Her haughty attitude, her put down comments and life of corruption, lies and privilege became her undoing.  "Deplorables" are tired of having their views attacked, disregarded and they became fed up with having their voices stilled in a land where freedom of speech is a right. Trump told us he was our voice and it resonated.

I have often pointed out the danger of believing you can drink your own bath water. I have also observed far too many liberals believe when they speak what they say must be so and they are humorless and incapable of allowing ideas of others to penetrate.  Finally, far too many reject empirical evidence their ideas just have not worked and,in fact, have brought misery.  Arrogance in the face of failure ultimately proves disastrous and thus "deplorable" voters overlooked Trump's warts and all and placed their bets on him.

And now we are witnessing actions of the anti-Trump protesters who are beyond hope. Their fascist acts of destruction will fade in time but they also remain a gutter force lurking beneath the surface and are available and useful tools of the Soros, Warren and Bernie types who have taken over much of the Democrat Party. Meanwhile, one of Savannah's more distinguished Liberals continues to send me articles accusing Trump of being anti-Semitic and that his election serves as an instigator of reviving the KKK etc.  This man attended one of the nation's most revered universities and is very bright but he just cannot restrain his bias.

Finally, the reaction to Trump's election reported occurring on public school and university campuses is disheartening ie. classes canceled, sensitivity sessions, safe zones for the offended .  Today is Memorial Day.  We celebrate generations who sacrificed their lives defending our freedoms and it is hard to conceive how the current generation of wusses will be able to defend their own freedoms. Putin and other despotic leaders have to be encouraged.

WOW:  How Thoughtful!

Richard,

Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful curating of content and writings.

In some part, I am sure, you have helped help voters/readers elect a Republican sweep of government branches.

Since the media is hopelessly liberal and biased, we need you - and other conservative and thoughtful bloggers - to continue blogging and making your readers think through the issues facing us... and very importantly, how to influence our Congressional leaders to do the right things to purse and conservative, albeit populist, fair/free trade agenda, led by our upcoming new president.  Conservatives have 4 possibly 8 years to undo the misguided and dangerous,self-serving and irresponsible Democrat agenda, legislation, demagoguery and actions which have hurt our Republic's security, prosperity and confidence.

Best regards,

A reader... and friend,

D---- S------- (See 2 below.)

1) Subject: How it happened...

 Dear Democrats and Liberals:

I'm noticing that a lot of you aren't graciously accepting the fact that your candidate lost. In fact you seem to be posting even more hateful things about those of us who voted for Trump.

Some of you are apparently "triggered" because you are posting how "sick" you feel about the results.

How did this happen you ask?

You created "us" when you attacked our freedom of speech.

You created "us" when you attacked our right to bear arms.

You created "us" when you attacked our Judeo-Christian beliefs.

You created "us" when you constantly referred to us as racists.

You created "us" when you constantly called us xenophobic.

You created "us" when you told us to get on board or get out of the way.

You created "us" when you forced us to buy health care and then financially penalized us for not participating.

You created "us" when you allowed our jobs to continue to leave our country.

You created "us" when you attacked/burned our flag.

You created "us" when you confused women's rights with feminism.

You created "us" when you began to emasculate men.

You created "us" when you decided to make our children soft.

You created "us" when you decided to vote for progressive ideals.

You created "us" when you attacked our way of life.

You created "us" when you decided to let our government get out of control.

"You" created "us" the silent majority.

And we became fed up and we pushed back and spoke up.

And we did it with ballots, not bullets.

2) Yes, I was outspoken about voting for Trump but I did not unabashedly believe he would become president.  I did think he might win the total vote count but lose the electoral.  Wrong on both counts.

That said, I do believe I was able to overlook the pettiness and bias of the mass media and I remained in tune with the disaffected.

When Kim Strassel came to town I had the pleasure of hearing her explain, three times, the degree to which freedom of speech was being attacked and how intimidation was widespread.

I sent a very small contribution to Trump, accompanied by a letter offering my advice on some campaign ideas and received back a form thank you and a bumper sticker which I did not place on my car. The more I thought about this the more I began to believe there was a larger, beneath the radar screen, vote  and then I posted an article about the impact social media might have versus the hundred of millions Hillary was spending on traditional media etc. and that impacted my thinking.

What Trump has accomplished may not be duplicated because of unique circumstances and his own personality but he has broken the rules and proved a politicians can speak his mind if he is sincere and be more effective in the process. Second, fortunately there are enough "deplorables" still kicking so America's future may not be as bleak as I have feared.

Finally, black voters may finally realize their enslavement to Democrats has been injurious and they can do something about it if they have courage.

I would like to believe the same would be true of my own but, I fear, they are too intelligent and smug  to think.
