Beautiful Stella Turns 10 Today. Obama The Revolutionist Fraud. Facts Are Facts and He/They Provide Me With Plenty. Two Giants.

Our beautiful Stella turns 10 today:

One day it will dawn on America, Obama truly is a revolutionist and meant to transform America and did irreparable harm to our nation from which we will never recover. He helped to corrupt our elections, education, freedoms and build up Russia's intrusions into our politics and , as I recently stated, raked off a few Biden Bucks as well.

Radical, progressives liberals will never conclude this because they approve of what he did.

As for Obama, in typical radical progressive action, he does what he accuses others and, if he says it, it must be so.  He also drinks his own bathwater every night before dinner.  The man is a total fraud and those who believe otherwise are total suckers.

Obama goes full Orwell in Stanford speech

As Barack Obama said after winning the 2008 presidential election, the purpose of the revolution is to “fundamentally transform the United States of America.” The doctrine that stands at the heart of the revolution is critical race theory.

By Jack Cashill(WND)

A week ago Barack Obama let loose his inner fascist and gave an hour-long speech at Stanford University that deserved more attention than it got.

“I’m pretty close to a First Amendment absolutist,” Obama told his audience and then spent the rest of the hour proving he is anything but. In fact, the Obama that emerges in this speech is one scary dude.

The one sentence that most alarmed me began thusly, “The way I’m going to evaluate any proposal touching on social media and the internet is whether it strengthens or weakens the prospects for a healthy, inclusive democracy.”

“The way I’m going to evaluate?” Obama failed to explain in what capacity he gets to evaluate anything. Does he expect to head the FCC or get appointed to the Supreme Court? Does he plan to engineer a Michelle Obama presidential bid? If any of these happens, God help us all.

The thrust of his speech was that “regulation has to be part of the answer” in combating online “disinformation.” As Obama made much too clear he and his pals get to determine what is and is not disinformation.

The former president makes almost no attempt to hide his biases. A sentence that reads, “People like Putin and Steve Bannon, for that matter, understand it’s not necessary for people to believe this information in order to weaken democratic institutions” does not inspire a whole lot of confidence in the deplorable half of America.

Nor does a sentence that reads, “There are still brand name newspapers and magazines, not to mention network news broadcasts, NPR [and] other outlets that have adapted to the new digital environment while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity.”

Those “highest standards” included sustaining for three years the fiction that Donald Trump conspired with the Russians to steal the 2016 election and salvaging Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, such as it was, by suppressing all news of Hunter Biden’s laptop under the pretext it was Russian disinformation.

On the question of COVID, Obama insists, “People are dying because of misinformation.” He cites the refusal of 1 in 5 Americans to avoid “safe, effective vaccines” as proof of the same.

Obama neglected to mention that more than a year into the COVID mania Gallup asked 35,000 Americans, “What are the chances someone with COVID must be hospitalized?” 41% of Democrats said more than 50%; another 28% of Democrats said 20 to 50%.

The correct answer was 1-5%.

What this means is that, thanks to the information spread by those Obama allies “maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity,” 69% of Democrats massively overestimated the risks of COVID. This disinformation ruined millions of lives, especially among the young.

One idea Obama supports is for school districts to teach “our kids to become critical thinkers who know how to evaluate sources and separate opinion from fact.” To this end, Obama asks, “Does this person who’s typing in his mother’s basement in his underwear seem a credible authority on climate change?”

I suspect he is at least as credible as a man who purchased two new multi-million dollar beachfront properties despite his expressed worry about “caravans of lost souls wandering a cracked earth in search of arable land, regular Katrina-sized catastrophes across every continent, island nations swallowed up by the sea.”

The source of Obama’s greatest worry, of course, is the 2020 election. He repeatedly chastised Republicans, Trump most notably, for “saying an election was stolen without a shred of evidence.” The stolen-election gambit, argued Obama, allowed Republicans to “target black and brown communities” with “voter suppression” schemes.

Bottom line: Obama and the Democrats are worried. Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, John Durham’s continued probe of the Russia collusion plot, the impending release of Dinesh D’Souza’s vote fraud exposé, “2000 Mules,” and the likely flipping of the House in November, threaten their control of the narrative.

It may be time for a new George Floyd.

Opinion If Russia starts winning, Americans won’t blame Ukraine. They’ll blame Biden.

Finally:

Is Noonan finally coming to her senses. Remember when all the "Trump Haters" told us he would get us into a nuclear war.  Don't hear that about Biden. As I have said many times,  liberal progressive radicals always say of others what they intend and/or doing themselves.

Yeah, radicals liberals think I am crazy but facts are facts and they constantly give me proof.

Putin Really May Break the Nuclear Taboo in Ukraine

It seems unthinkable, but American leaders’ failure to think about it heightens the risk it will happen.

Jerusalem Mayor: ‘We marched from Auschwitz to Jerusalem’

Mayor Lion at Auschwitz Jerusalem municupality

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion spoke at Auschwitz on the occasion of the March of the Living on Holocaust Memorial Day Thursday.

Seventy-nine years ago, on March 15, the first transport of Jews departed from the Baron Hirsch neighborhood in Thessaloniki, en-route to Auschwitz-Birkenau. ‏For five months – from March to August – the transports continued to depart Thessaloniki, the Jerusalem of the Balkans, and from other Jewish communities in Greece, to Auschwitz. Only nineteen “shipments”. That’s all it took for the Nazis to eliminate Thessaloniki’s Jews. Ninety percent of Greece’s Jews were killed in the concentration camps.

I am privileged to have here with me today, my father, Shalom Lion. His great uncle, Doctor Michael Pesach, marched with his patients to the killing pit. And his daughter, whose name we do not know, perished here, in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Did Grandma survive the journey? Seven days in packed cattle carts. Did her granddaughter and son accompany her on her last march? Were they on the train that arrived from Thessaloniki seventy-nine years ago, on the twenty-eighth of April, 1943, from which two thousand five hundred and forty-nine Jews were immediately sent to the gas chambers?

We will never know. We do not even know the day they passed away.

“It is time for the gates of acceptance to be opened, the day I shall prostrate before G-d. Please remember for me on the day of rebuke, recall the binder, the bound, the alter.”

These words are sung by the Jews of Greece and Eastern countries on Rosh Hashanah before the sounding of the Shofar, and the opening of the Gates of Heaven. This supplication, describing the awe-filled moment of the binding of Isaac, holds different meaning after the Holocaust.

Communities of Greek origin read it as if it was written about them. About the binding of their families, about the loss of their communities. I cannot forget the elders of the community weeping and sobbing, “The son born after ninety years, has gone into the flames, designated by the sword, where will I find comfort for his mother?”

The eyes cried bitterly, but the heart rejoiced, the binder, the bound, the alter.”

In these moments, I cannot but mention alongside my family, my dear wife Stavit’s family who also perished here in Auschwitz: Pinchas, Sarah, Malka and her son, whose name we do not know, to the Aust family, great-grandmother Atel, who died during the escape, and Grandma Tzipora Lerer.

Dear friends, this railroad, on which we now stand, the Auschwitz Railway Station, was – in the spring of 1944 – the busiest train station in Europe. Whoever stands here, on this damned rail track, can almost hear and imagine the cries of mothers, and the children torn from their arms. ‏The barking of the dogs. The terrible selection, to life or to death. The cold-blooded orders of the guards: Fast, faster!

We are not in a hurry. We remember as a nation. And our memory is eternal. We will remember the Nazi as the nation of Amalek (the biblical tribe who sought to destroy the Children of Israel). ‏We will remember those who stood idly by. We will not forgive those who saw the chimney smoke, heard the cries, and did not lift a finger.

I stand here today, on Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, as Mayor of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel, and the capital of the Jewish people.

And I say: We were commanded to walk – and we just walked, in the March of the Living, and we say clearly: We are here.

No, we did not march from Auschwitz one to Auschwitz two. We did not march from Auschwitz to Birkenau. We marched from the Holocaust to the rebirth. We marched from Auschwitz to Jerusalem.

Every step in the march, is an important and meaningful step in the history of the Jewish people. Even as antisemitism tries – even today – to raise its ugly head. Despite the murderous terror attacks, and the attempts to undermine the peace of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, we are the Jewish people, and we will continue to march as free people in our land. The land of Zion and Jerusalem! We will continue to build and develop Jerusalem as a city of peace, a city of hope, a city of the future.

I call to you, my father, standing here with me proud and strong, as part of the chain of generations. Dad, we survived the Holocaust, thanks to Jerusalem. Thanks to your father, Grandpa Moshe Leon, who held you in his arms, as a little baby and came with you, when he dreamed of Jerusalem.

And here I am standing today, proud and moved, as the Mayor of Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish people and the capital of Israel, at the head of the Jerusalem delegation.

Father, as you can see: The Jewish spirit and the prayers for Jerusalem are the victors of history. They are the ones who continue to exist and become stronger. Like our family, like the special nation of which we are privileged to be a part. And like the most special city in the world, Jerusalem.

Father, as your son, as the father of your grandchildren, and as a grandfather to your great-grandchildren, with you, and together with all those present here, we say to grandmother, Mazal Tov Pesach of blessed memory, along with all the holy martyrs, the victims. We will never forget! Jerusalem is our heart. Jerusalem is the heart of each and every one of us. As we say, “If I forget thee Jerusalem.”

Trust Iran but Don’t Verify
The U.S. frets about secret nuclear activity but keeps negotiating.
The Editorial Board

President Ebrahim Raisi (2-R) accompanied by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran chief Mohammad Eslami (R) attending an event during the "Nuclear Technology Day" in the capital Tehran on April 9.

Talks in Vienna to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal paused last month, and it isn’t clear whether they’ll resume or officially end. A little-noticed line in a State Department report published last week makes a good case for formally walking away.

“The United States has concluded that serious concerns remained outstanding regarding possible undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran,” according to State’s annual report on compliance with arms control and nonproliferation agreements. The document notes that the Islamic Republic has not fully cooperated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is trying to investigate possible secret nuclear activity at four sites around the country.

Four years ago Donald Trump left the 2015 accord—which provided Tehran billions in sanctions relief for temporary limits on nuclear activity—and pursued a “maximum pressure” sanctions campaign. President Biden has eased some sanctions and promised more relief. Yet now talks reportedly have stalled over whether the U.S. will lift the terrorist designation for the Iranian terrorist group known as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

But Iran’s refusal to cooperate with the IAEA on the suspect sites is the best signal that renewing the deal is misguided. How can the U.S. negotiate a return to a nuclear deal if it can’t verify all of Iran’s nuclear activity? The IAEA is trying to resolve its differences with Tehran, but even if it does the country’s long history of nuclear deception foretells the future. Iran was blocking inspections at military sites even when it was still adhering to the 2015 deal.

The State Department report also concludes that while “Iran is not currently engaged in key activities associated with the design and development of a nuclear weapon,” it continues “to expand its uranium enrichment activities and stocks of enriched uranium, key factors in the amount of time it would require to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon.”

In other words, Washington doesn’t know the extent of Iran’s nuclear activity, but it knows enough to think Tehran isn’t building a weapon—at least not yet. Oh, and the regime is preparing to build a weapon faster if it does build one.

Western officials began saying in December that reviving the 2015 deal would become pointless within “weeks” amid Iranian nuclear advances. Weeks have come and gone. There are many reasons for the White House to walk away from talks with Iran, but the lack of meaningful verification is at the top of the list.

Patriot:

I can define “Woman”
By Elizabeth Kreiselmaier

War is raging, but it's not just the one in Ukraine. The radical left prefers you stay focused on Ukraine, so you won't notice the war they have waged here at home.

The War on Women.

If they’re not teaching our children in elementary schools about their gender identity, they’re busy forcing young girls and women, who have worked so hard to take their place in women’s sports, to compete against biological men.

Women have been sacrificed and told “too bad,” in order to serve the appetite of the “woke” mob and I hear nothing but crickets from the mainstream media who once proclaimed to be advocates of women.

How can you claim to champion women while at the same time devaluing them?

This insidious transgender “movement” is an assault on women’s rights and Democrats do not care about the safety of our girls and women. In Washington state they just voted for SB1956 which allows one’s biological sex or gender identity in women’s prisons to remain classified. Biologically male inmates, who still have their male body parts are allowed to be housed with women. Some female inmates have already been raped or impregnated. I recently testified in strong opposition to this bill.

This transgender movement is widespread throughout the country under Biden, Kilmer and the Democrats. We now have a Supreme Court Justice, a woman, who can’t, or won’t, define the word “woman,” a society that encourages girls to ignore their Biblical significance and identity, to be careless with their bodies, and celebrate abortions.

There is more to being a woman than just saying you are a woman, but the left doesn’t want to follow the science, even though it doesn’t take an M.D. to know there are fundamental, biological differences between men and women.

Liberals DO NOT CARE.

CoachI ask you, sincerely, if we don’t advocate for our girls then WHO WILL?

We have an obligation to stand up and defend these women and girls. We must do it fiercely and unapologetically. We are being steamrolled.

We need to speak up and say definitively:

You are NOT going to hijack women’s sports,
You are NOT going to teach our daughters any sexual content,
You are NOT going to devalue the worth of our daughters,
You are not going to minimize the importance of being a woman, and
You are not going to teach our children, of any gender, to do anything other than love and respect our country.
Biden and Kilmer don't want you to defend your daughter, but instead are working with TSA to spend MILLIONS of your dollars on “gender neutral” security scanning machines and “gender X” options on your passport.

Our girls are counting on US and now I’m counting on YOU to put me in Congress to save our girls from the radical left’s dangerous policies.

Russia’s Energy Extortion of Poland and Bulgaria
With more U.S. help for Europe, the ploy could boomerang on Vladimir Putin.
By The Editorial Board

An attack on one NATO ally is an attack on all, and that’s how Europe and the U.S. should treat Russia’s decision this week to stop supplying natural gas to Poland and Bulgaria. With enough allied coordination, this could boomerang on Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin is extorting Europe by demanding that “unfriendly” countries pay for gas in rubles rather than euros or dollars as required under their Gazprom contracts. European companies have been ordered to set up two accounts at Gazprombank to enable the currency conversion. Countries that refuse, as Bulgaria and Poland have, risk a gas cutoff.

“The request from the Russian side to pay in rubles is a unilateral decision and not according to the contracts,” says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “Companies with such contracts should not accede to the Russian demands. This would be a breach of the Russian sanctions.” Mr. Putin hopes to erode Western sanctions, boost the ruble and divide Europe.

This may be a tactical blunder. Europe can’t replace the 40% or so of its gas that it imports from Russia overnight. But Mr. Putin’s extortion should harden Europe’s resolve to reduce its dependence on Russian fuel. Poland shows it can be done sooner than many think.

The Poles saw how Mr. Putin had repeatedly weaponized natural gas against Ukraine and prepared by building a large liquefied natural gas import terminal on the Baltic Sea. Next week Poland plans to open a pipeline linked to Lithuania’s LNG terminal. Another pipeline delivering gas from Norway to Poland is expected to be completed this fall.

Poland says it had planned to let its Gazprom contract expire later this year anyway. Other countries are more vulnerable to Mr. Putin’s blackmail but they have some short-term alternatives. Bulgaria imports some 90% of its gas from Russia but can get more from Turkey and Greece in a pinch. Italy has secured a deal to import more gas from Algeria.

Germany has scrambled to reduce its dependence on Russian gas, which now accounts for 35% of imports, down from 55% last year. Lucky for Germany, wind power is strong in the spring, and power plants can switch to burning coal. Mr. Putin’s ploy is a prod to Chancellor Olaf Scholz to cancel the retirement of Germany’s last remaining nuclear plants this year.

Mr. Putin wants to raise the costs to Europe for arming Ukraine and sanctioning Russia. Wholesale gas prices in Europe rose 20% Wednesday morning and are more than six times higher than a year ago. If Mr. Putin cuts off gas to other European countries, the Continent could fall into recession.

But cutting off exports would also wound Russia, as fuel sales fund its war machine and nearly half its budget. Mr. Putin has few other places to send his gas, so drilling rigs would soon have to be taken down and wells sealed. This could do longer-term damage to Russian gas production.

Mr. Putin continues to underestimate European solidarity and resolve. He may think his threats will erode sanctions, but the opposite may be happening. Bloomberg reported Wednesday that German officials were prepared to support a gradual ban on Russian oil imports to the European Union.

The Biden Administration could support the Europeans by imposing secondary sanctions on businesses that help finance Russia’s oil trade so Mr. Putin can’t easily off-load his crude to China and India. It should also be moving heaven and earth to ramp up U.S. oil and gas production and exports to Europe.

Mr. Biden is doing the opposite. Last week the Administration reaffirmed support for a leasing ban on public land and imposed new permitting rules that will make it much harder to build pipelines and LNG export terminals. This week it reversed a Trump plan to open up the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska to more drilling. Mr. Putin must be smiling.

Russia’s war on Ukraine has awakened Europeans from their energy illusions, but Mr. Biden is still snoozing. Time to wake up, sir.

Oh to be a glorious Democrat and progressive radical liberal:

Democrats Blew Covid’s Politics
Biden and the party’s progressives think spending money will earn voter gratitude. Not this time.
By Daniel Henninger

WSJ Opinion: The Democratic Party Is Midterm Toast

Wonder Land: Biden and the party’s progressives think spending money will earn voter gratitude. Not this time.

The dictionary’s second definition of “landslide” is a torrent of votes for one party over its competition. But the original, more to-the-point definition is a destructive mass of rocks, mud, trees and debris hurtling down a mountain. There must be a New Yorker cartoon somewhere of a politician standing below a landslide’s leading edge and remarking, “They’re predicting sunshine tomorrow.” Say hello to the Democrats—while they’re still standing.

Congress came back to the Washington mother ship this week, and the buzz was that the Democrats will move heaven and earth to give the American public a reason to vote for them in November’s midterm elections. Maybe enact another $10 billion in Covid relief or wave a wand that erases student-loan debt. Normally I’d say good luck with that, but the party is beyond luck.

It’s time for a premortem on the Democrats’ House debacle and very possible loss of Senate control.

Barack Obama, now the party’s main oracle, said during his recent visit to the Biden White House: “You’ve got a story to tell—just got to tell it.” No, their story is the problem.

From the day Joe Biden entered office, the Democrats have displayed a misreading of how the Covid-19 pandemic had altered the country’s normal political and social alignments.

Obvious to everyone now, the pandemic forced millions to rethink everything in their lives—their jobs, children, schools, where they lived, care for elderly relatives, the routines of daily life.

This was a complex political and cultural event to which the Democratic response was Pavlovian: Throw money and expect gratitude.

What the Democrats did—first the $2 trillion 2021 Covid relief bill followed by the attempt to pass $4.6 trillion more with Build Back Better—was an exercise in political grandiosity wholly out of sync with a public that had turned inward. Even now, as the pandemic ebbs in an election year, people are preoccupied with either rebuilding their lives or restructuring careers.

Democrats might say that Mr. Biden simply replayed FDR’s Great Depression playbook of patching holes in the social fabric. Maybe, but the Depression didn’t include lockdowns, school closings and masking policies.

Democrats can also argue, in retirement, how they only “followed the science.” Whatever the justification, Democrats displayed little understanding or sympathy for how much the pandemic restrictions were disrupting people’s lives.

The White House anointed Anthony Fauci and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as arbiters of pandemic policy. Last week, Dr. Fauci confirmed that he considered himself answerable to no one outside his circle. How could the White House have seen so little peril in abdicating control of the politics amid the evolving mysteries of Covid? On Wednesday, Dr. Fauci announced we are “out of the pandemic phase.” Better late than never for Democrats.

Joe Biden promised a return to normality. But that was about Donald Trump. There was nothing normal about the America over which Mr. Biden presided. The pandemic’s social dislocations increased. Schools closed, then sort-of opened, with masking policies micromanaged into incomprehensibility. Parents were overwhelmed. The schools mess alone has baked in Democratic losses, notably in states such as New Jersey, a tinderbox of rage over closed schools.

Masking became a left-right issue. But the Democrats’ lockstep support for masking hurt them. Covering half one’s face with cloth is an apolitical hassle, which in time wore down many people who wanted out. Instead the Biden CDC, supported by the Justice Department, insisted in the pandemic’s last hour on extending the travel mask mandate. Is this what the Democrats mean by getting their message out?

At every level of government, the Democratic Party defended restrictions by aligning with the authority of science. Result: After living for two years under that authority’s thumb, people are looking for respite from government, which by definition means the Democrats.

President Biden’s claim that his economic recovery is unprecedented also mischaracterizes the public’s understanding of the pandemic experience. People know the lockdowns suspended a strong economy. One day they had a job. Then they didn’t. The U.S. rebound from this mandated downturn is natural, not a Biden miracle. Some aid helped some people, but there’s no reason that should translate into a wellspring of support for the party.

The Washington Democrats wasted their political capital in 2021 trying to create a once-and-for-all U.S. entitlement state with Build Back Better. That became a spectacle of political failure. So Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another progressive oracle, argued last weekend that the party’s survival depends on passing legislation to regulate drug prices and leaning on Mr. Biden to issue a long list of executive orders. Likely political resonance: about zero.

Six months before Election Day, this is the political landscape: Most voters see House and Senate Democrats as largely irrelevant to their lives, which today consist of climbing out of a pandemic amid rising inflation, crime and illegal border crossings.

That the Democrats are about to tumble down the mountain has nothing to do with their unheard message and everything to do with conscious policy choices.

Biden offered Iran an olive branch but it isn't working - opinion

The only viable approach is not half-hearted but a full-court press of restrictive economic measures against the Islamic Republic’s rulers. We must ask ourselves, do these sanctions work?

Iranian commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Hossein Salami, second from right, and Iran's Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, third from left, attend the graduation ceremony of Imam Hussein Military University in Tehran, Oct. 3, 2021.  (photo credit: Iranian Leader Press Office/Handout/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)

For four decades, the US State Department has called the Islamic Republic of Iran the world’s “most active state sponsor of terrorism.” For 40 years, US officials claimed that Iran had continued funding, providing weapons, training terrorists, and giving sanctuary to several terrorist groups. Since its inception, the Islamic Republic has existed in an environment of conflict, isolation, and sanctions.

Iran has a nuclear program that is not, despite its claims, for peaceful purposes. The country kept its nuclear program secret for several years. Its leaders intend to prolong the program’s existence only long enough to get their hands on the bomb so they can feel invincible and continue their control over the unarmed Iranian people and ultimately export their Islamic revolution and terrorism around the globe.

Since 1987, the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union, among others, have levied significant economic sanctions on Iran. The goal of these sanctions is to force Tehran to suspend uranium enrichment and allow unfettered supervision of its nuclear operations.

During the previous administration, the US used maximum pressure on the Iranian regime. Through economic sanctions, the US was pursuing an extreme pressure campaign to compel Iran’s regime to permanently scrap its nuclear weapons ambitions and halt its terrorist financing. Meanwhile, US allies in the European Union have ignored US sanctions and responded to them by calling on countries to disregard threats from Washington.

Hence, US President Joe Biden's recent appeasement move (déjà vu) to restore sanctions waivers to Iran, as indirect American-Iranian talks on revitalizing the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran enter the ultimate stretch, is nothing new.

“The Obama Administration finally admitted something its critics had long suspected,” John Hayward, Breitbart’s national security deputy editor wrote in September 2016. “The entire $1.7 billion tribute paid to Iran was tendered in cash – not just the initial $400 million infamously shipped to the Iranians in a cargo plane – at the same moment four American hostages were released.”

Recently, Iran’s parliament has demanded that the US remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from its Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) list, as one of the required measures to renew the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the Iran nuclear deal. In 2019, then-US President Donald Trump’s administration put the IRGC on the FTO list, saying that Iran is “an outlaw regime that uses terrorism as a key tool of statecraft.” The Biden Administration, dealing from a position of weakness, is considering the removal of the group, just as the Obama Administration delisted the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (Mujahedin-e Khalq) on Sept. 28, 2012.

Iran’s mullahs only understand the language of strength. They will take advantage of any perceived weakness and will assault if they feel retreat.

The US administration’s double-standard vis-à-vis Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran is shocking. While the US calls Vladimir Putin a war criminal for committing genocide in Ukraine and imposes massive sanctions on Russia’s economy, it allows Russia to negotiate on its behalf over Iran’s nuclear program. Iran was dishonest about the old deal from the very start and used its profits to destabilize the Middle East. That is exactly what it will do again, thanks to the new worst deal in history, brokered by Russia at the Biden Administration’s behest.

When dealing with the mullahs ruling Iran, what you see is not what you get, and what you hear is not what they mean. Transparency and honesty are not their strong suit.

The best predictor of future behavior is past performance. The religiously fanatical mullahs’ record is one of deception, dissimulation, treachery, violence, and more. They have perfected the art of deception.

The only viable approach is not half-hearted but a full-court press of restrictive economic measures against the Islamic Republic’s rulers. Unfortunately, it would make the Iranian people, particularly those outside the ruling apparatus, suffer hugely. But Iran’s people are willing to suffer a temporary hurt of this nature to get rid of the scourge that is the Islamic Republic.

We must ask ourselves, do these sanctions work? If sanctions must be pursued, then selective sanctions are the best method for preventing nuclear proliferation. The goal of sanctions is not to inflict pain and suffering but to affect a change in the policy or behavior of the target state.

The best strategy – the one that stands the greatest chance of success and entails the least risk of starting a cataclysmic chain reaction – is for a "coalition of the willing," to borrow a phrase, to rally behind the Iranian opposition. Democracy-seeking secular Iranians are thoroughly capable of dislodging the tyrannical mullahs.

The misguided advocates of negotiation with the mullahs must beware. The mullahs are on a fanatical mission. They are intoxicated with petrodollars and aim to settle for nothing less than complete domination of the world under the Islamic ummah. They consider America and the West a dying system, while they believe their Islamism is the rising order. They are in no mood to negotiate for anything less than the total surrender of democracy to Islamism.

According to former Goldman Sachs executive, Nomi Prins…

Americans who are hoping for a ‘return to normal’ are going to be shocked when they see what happens next in America.

She says, “If you’re betting your job, savings, or retirement accounts on a return to ‘normal’ you’re about to be left behind by a brand-new crisis few see coming.”

Wokeness, free speech and the Jews

The decline in respect for open discourse caused by new orthodoxies on race, gender and politics are a threat to religious minorities even if many Jews don’t see themselves at risk.

By JONATHAN S. TOBIN

(April 25, 2022 / JNS) Each new academic year provides fresh evidence of something that is recognized by most observers across the political spectrum as a disturbing reality of American higher education: the decline in respect by both students and faculty at American universities and colleges for open discourse. The 2021-22 year that’s coming to a close in the upcoming weeks has proved no exception. Sometimes, its controversial speakers are being disinvited due to fear of protests and accusations of insensitivity to the feelings of those who might disagree. Or it can concern the attempts to fire or deplatform those who say or tweet things deemed by the intellectual fashion of the day to be beyond the pale. Some of the most recent examples at Harvard, Yale and Georgetown universities are just more proof of how ubiquitous this trend has become.

But probably even more troubling than incidents involving speakers or individual students and faculty is the more pervasive phenomenon affecting students in general. Various opinion surveys from sources like the Pew Research Institute and the Knight Foundation have shown that more Americans are curbing their speech on controversial topics out of fear of being ostracized or even attacked in the current climate, where cancel culture prevails in so many forums. At the same time, growing numbers of people think that there’s nothing wrong with canceling those with opinions they consider to be offensive.

Public discourse has become a dialogue of the deaf in which we refuse to listen to each other. It’s also one in which those who disagree are not merely refuted but castigated and often shunned or silenced. Yet despite the growing chorus of those who lament this, there also seems to be a general refusal to comprehend just how illiberal the new intolerance for disagreement has become. At the same time, much of the organized Jewish community, as well as many who are thought of as opinion leaders, doesn’t understand that among those who should be most concerned by the collapse of classical liberal beliefs about free speech are the Jews.

This is reflected in the way social-media platforms like Facebook and Twitter operate. In the name of enforcing community standards that are supposed to reflect shared values, these Big Tech giants have ruthlessly silenced opinion pieces and news stories that either contradict the progressive views of their owners and staff or serve to undermine liberal political goals and politicians. While damning their opponents as purveyors of “disinformation,” these same companies and their press allies are spewing out plenty of it themselves. Meanwhile, the possibility that free speech might be restored on Twitter with its purchase by entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk is being greeted with howls of outrage from many on the left who believe that it should only exist on the virtual public square if it conforms to their beliefs.

That’s even more true for those who are placed in the hothouse atmosphere of academia, where woke mobs of students and their enablers in the faculty and administration are always ready to silence anyone who dares to transgress against current orthodoxies on race, gender or liberal politics. Indeed, even citadels of institutional liberalism like The New York Times, which has itself transitioned from being the country’s paper of record to an openly progressive and partisan forum, have noticed that this isn’t good for society or democracy.

Part of the problem is that many people don’t understand that while we often use the terms liberal and progressive interchangeably to describe one side of the right-left political divide, they have come to mean very different things. Of course, that’s also true about the word “liberal” itself. The notion that the primary purpose of government should be to defend individual rights against the power of the state was the essence of 19th-century liberalism. But in the 20th century, as liberal political movements embraced the power of government in order to achieve policy aims, such libertarianism and suspicion of government power more often became the chief concern of those on the political right.

Politicians, no matter their ideology or affiliation, tend to be for whatever increases their own power and influence. Yet that turn away from classical liberal ideas on the left has turned into open rejection with the rise of ideologies like intersectionality and critical race theory (CRT). These notions, which embody the woke catechism, don’t merely depart from liberalism; they flatly contradict it since they categorize people by race as members of groups that are either victims or victimizers. Instead of promoting the free exchange of ideas, they are focused on anathematizing those who point out the flaws of this new faith as, in an act of epic gaslighting, racist and intolerant.

On college campuses, this has bred not merely anger at opposing views but a belief that to be exposed to ideas that challenge your pre-existing assumptions is a form of violence that “triggers” justified fear, forcing the supposed victims of these ideas to seek shelter in “safe spaces.” This is the opposite of the ideals of a free and open exchange of ideas that higher education was supposed to foster. But for progressives, traditional liberalism is an antiquated ideology since it is intended to promote debate, not uniformity with those on the outside of the new ideologies, who are damned for their retrograde views. That explains their increasing confidence in demanding that those who disagree be fired or shut up. Rather than identifying with the plight of those being canceled, this spirit of righteous indignation causes the woke to act as if their political foes deserve to be silenced rather than argued with.

So while respondents are telling pollsters that they are self-censoring to avoid getting on the wrong side of Twitter mobs or cancelation, many don’t understand that the consequences for democracy—a principle that progressives say is being threatened by the right—when debate is curtailed or squelched.

Let’s understand that there is a clear difference between cancel culture and the public pushback against woke teaching that has led to calls for a ban on the use of CRT in public schools or calls for curbs on the imposition of other leftist ideology among small children. Opposition to indoctrination is not a suppression of free speech but a defense of it.

Just as important are the consequences specifically for the Jewish community and Jewish students.

The most obvious is the way woke attacks on Jews as beneficiaries of “white privilege,” as well as on Israel and Zionism as expressions of oppression, have marginalized many Jews in left-wing strongholds, especially college campuses. A new survey of Jewish millennials from the American Jewish Committee showed that a significant percentage—though still a minority—of those in the 26 to 41-year-old age group felt that the anti-Israel atmosphere on campuses and elsewhere had impacted their personal friendship, commitment to the Jewish state or even their willingness to hide their Jewish identity. It’s easy to imagine that the same will be truer for the Gen Z generation now in college.

Intolerance and orthodoxy are always bad news for religious and ethnic minorities, especially those who don’t currently qualify for preferred minority status, like Jews and Asians, in the eyes of the woke.

Yet rather than understand that this represents a fundamental challenge to Jewish security, much of the organized community, including those tasked with defending it against anti-Semitism, like the Anti-Defamation League, are on the wrong side of this debate. While paying lip service to the nation that Jew-hatred exists on both the left and the right, they are also supporting ideas like CRT that underpin the surge of anti-Semitism.

As another academic year ends with free speech under threat everywhere but especially on campuses, it’s vital that the Jewish community stop pretending that it’s possible to fight anti-Semitism without being just as prepared to combat wokeness and cancel culture and the ideas that reinforce this illiberal plague of intolerance.

A pushback against the Great Lunacy?

Elon Musk's coup against the Twitterverse isn't the only sign that something has shifted

By Melanie Phillips

Straws in the wind, perhaps — but are we witnessing the beginning of a fightback against the great madness we’ve been living through in the west?

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, has bought Twitter for $44 billion. Apparently, he was provoked into doing so after Twitter suspended the Babylon Bee for making a joke about the transgender US assistant secretary for health and human services, Rachel Levine.

The reaction to his purchase of Twitter has plumbed truly epic levels of imbecility — much of it, naturally, on Twitter.

Here, Musk’s coup reminds the writer of Weimar Germany; here, Musk apparently wants to “gaslight” and discredit his critics; here, he will apparently have a “chilling effect on journalism”;  here, he is said to run, in Tesla, a racist company; here, he is said to want to use Twitter to promote “white power”;  here, his free speech promise is said to threaten to unleash “lawless hate, bigotry and misogyny”;  here, he is said to be “behaving like a movie super-villain”; here, a tweeter speculates that if he purchased Twitter “it could result in World War Three and the destruction of our planet”; here, he was denounced as an “imperialist” because he wants to colonise Mars.

To all such people Musk has said:

Wow — some super-villain, eh?! But of course. As this individual tweeted:

In Germany we know for a fact where free speech without borders and limits may lead to.

To which impressive grasp of fascism the satirist Titania McGrath tweeted in sarcastic response:

If Elon Musk buys Twitter, there’s a real danger that people will start saying whatever they want, whenever they want. That’s exactly how Nazi Germany started.

Musk himself has said of his motives:

Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.

How very white imperialistic, chillingly super-villainous, eh?

Of course, no-one has any idea what Musk will actually do with Twitter and whether he will achieve anything good at all. But the reason for the culture warriors’ meltdown is the threat he self-evidently poses to their ability to stamp out any and all opposition to their Maoist war against conservatives, white people and what it actually means to be a human being.

That war lies behind the ruthless censorship practised on Twitter and by the other social media giants, Facebook, Google and YouTube.

Yet the main threat to civilised values isn’t censorship, however inimical that is to a free society. The real menace of Twitter doesn’t lie in its suppression of views it doesn’t like. It is that Twitter is a cesspit of pyschopathic cruelty, imbecility and hysteria. It is a rolling emotional spasm in 280 characters, the regurgitus of a culture in the grip of pathological decay — a culture that coerces conformity, has erased moral responsibility and put rationality into reverse.

And all this has been enforced not just by social media giants but also by the mainstream media, universities and other institutions of western culture.

But have we now reached a tipping point? For Musk’s coup against the Twitterverse is the latest of several signs of a pushback against the lunacy.

Last month Karey Burke, Disney's President of General Entertainment Content, tearfully announced that as “the mother of two queer children . . . one transgender and one pansexual”, she wanted 50 per cent of characters in Disney productions to be LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning, intersex, and asexual) by the end of the year. Mail Online reports:

Another Disney executive boasted in a private meeting leaked online that she regularly made a point of “adding queerness” — such as the odd same-sex kiss in a background shot — to children's cartoons…

Last year, Disney decreed that all loudspeaker announcements at its theme parks would be “gender neutral”; “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” would be replaced with “dreamers of all ages’’.

Disney's even been tinkering with its classics. A 2019 initiative called “Stories Matter” adds on-screen warnings to older films: a chopstick-wielding Siamese cat in The Aristocats is flagged up for racism, as are the African-American crows in Dumbo, and the “stereotypical” portrayal of Native Americans in Peter Pan.

Disney insiders say the Stories Matter team’s review of Peter Pan expressed concern over Tinker Bell because the fairy is “body conscious” and jealous of Peter Pan”s attention; while having Captain Hook as the villain could expose the company to accusations of prejudice against people with disabilities.

Now, though, the tables have been turned on this inanity and insanity. The Mail continues:

Disney World is Florida's top attraction. But last Friday, the state’s ruling Republicans stripped the company, which employs 75,000 people there, of the right to govern its vast resort and theme park itself….

The move is in retaliation for the decision by Disney bosses to publicly attack new legislation introduced by Florida's governor Ron DeSantis, to ban primary schools from teaching children aged five to nine about sexual orientation and gender identity.

Now children, clap your hands if you believe in biology….

Next, at those twin shrines of the American media woke cult CNN and the New York Times, a dim light has dawned that they’ve trashed their brand by substituting partisan advocacy for journalism. They seem finally to have realised that they’ve thus turned off great swathes of the public who no longer believe a word they say.

CNN this week abandoned a newly launched streaming service after only 100,000 users had signed up. And the New York Times appointed a reported “centrist” to correct its, erm, egregious left-wing bias. The Guardian (even!) reports:

At an Oprah Winfrey-hosted company meeting on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank, California last week, David Zaslav, chief executive and president of CNN’s corporate parent, reportedly said he wanted CNN to focus on the facts and set itself apart from a cable-news industry monopolised by “advocacy networks”.

“If we get that, we can have a civilised society,” Zaslav reportedly said. “And without it, if it all becomes advocacy, we don’t have a civilised society”…

Addressing the bleed-through of opinion into news has also been on the menu at the New York Times, though less overtly so given the gift that would present to the paper’s enemies.

This week, the controlling Sulzberger family tapped Joe Kahn, a former China correspondent, to be the new executive editor.

Though top editors felt by some staff to have overlooked limitations on which opinions were fit to publish have left the paper, the publisher, AG Sulzberger, has said he believes “in the principle of openness to a range of opinions”.

This week, a Times insider told New York magazine: “There is a sense — and this makes a lot of people very happy — that [Kahn] is much less willing to indulge the complaining and the constant cries of activism and that he is somebody who has expressed little patience for the newsroom culture-war eruptions that have been such a distraction for us lately”.

In Britain, the grip of left-wing groupthink in broadcasting is now being challenged by GB News and the latest kid on the (self-professed) anti-woke block, TalkTV. And even the universities — culture meltdown ground-zero — are showing faint signs of independent thinking in the wake of a new government bill to combat the suppression of ideas on campus. This bill will give academics and students a direct route to compensation if they are censored or silenced. The Telegraph reports:

Only on Monday, in a sign of a “turning tide” against “threats, intimidation and harassment”, Reading University rejected an open letter from its students’ union telling it to “reconsider consent” for a talk by gender-critical academics about gay conversion therapy.Amid a protest of around 50 students outside the talk calling for “safeguards” to protect trans people, the university stressed it was “committed to freedom of speech”.

Universities minister Michelle Donelan told a meeting at the Policy Exchange think-tank that university vice-chancellors must actively promote, not just protect, freedom of speech.

Ms Donelan said “too often, university leadership turns a blind eye” to an “intolerant mob”, singling out the “deplorable” campaign against Prof Kathleen Stock, who quit Sussex University last year in a trans row, and LSE students who hounded the Israeli ambassador.

“This intolerant few have decided that protecting people from offence is more important than advancing human knowledge,” she said, pointing to surveys showing hundreds of scholars feel forced to self-censor their views.

“Let me take a moment to inform the intolerant few — their brief period of power is over,” she added.

Well, it’s not going to be that simple. But suddenly, something in the air has shifted — and for the better.

About time.

Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch accidentally admitted that Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine if President Trump had been reelected.

In an interview with PBS‘ Margaret Hoover, Yovanovitch – a seething anti-Trump impeachment witness – was asked about her previous comments that the Ukraine war never would have happened under Trump.

“I’ve heard that you have also suggested that Putin might not have gone to war if Trump was still in office,” said Hoover.

To which Yovanovitch replied: “Trump was very dismissive of NATO – I mean, dismissive, it’s obviously a diplomatic word – very critical of NATO, critical of our allies,” adding “And his close associates, including John Bolton, have said that if he had won a second term, he would have pulled us out of NATO. I mean, why go to war with Vladimir Putin if the United States is going to present kind of the corpse of NATO on a silver platter? You don’t need to do that.”

Hoover then asked: “I mean, how do you think the invasion would have been different if Trump had remained as president?”

To which the former Ambassador replied: “I think that Trump would have provided Putin with enough of what he wanted that perhaps he wouldn’t have invaded.”

As she dug herself deeper, Yovanovitch said when asked what Ukraine would have looked like if Russia had never invaded: “We are now getting into… this is why diplomats are told never to answer hypothetical questions…” before adding “So we’re getting into areas of– you know, I mean, it’s a hypothetical question, right? I don’t know what Trump would have done, and I don’t know what Putin would have done. But I can’t see Trump, President Trump standing up for Ukraine the way President Biden is right now.
